The Temptations (1998)
Genius is in this film
Watching this film on network TV had me mesmerized in the 90's. A few months ago when we finally got a DVD player, well, we had to have films to watch. I only bought one that day. The Temptations. The film made me research the group and photos of them, but I expected to see the actors faces instead of the real faces of the Temps. All of the people who worked on this film did a masterful job in bringing to the world a story of some young men that filled the world with music and joy. The story of how they did this was never known, but now that the film is available, everybody and anybody who loves music must see this film. Overlooked is was, but brilliant it will always be. Whether you liked the group or not, whether you liked their music or not, you should take 3 hours of your life and watch how the passion for excellence permeated the souls of a group brilliant musicians. The film is enthralling, the acting superb, and the story is as beautiful as it is tragic. I wish I had known them, but except for Otis, they are lost to the ages. The Temptations is a film for all young people to see if they want to pursue a career as a musician. It is one of the most magnificent stories of music and life and dreams that has ever, or will ever be made. We are so fortunate the Temptations gave us their soul and love and life. They are almost all gone, but the joy and music they gave us will outlive us all. Buy it, rent it, or borrow it, but watch this film. There is genius in this film.
Scrooge (1951)
Movie Goofs Scrooge 1951
The stage hand in the mirror is a great slip up. I have the DVD and have watched both B&W and color versions. Another really obvious goof in the film is at the board meeting as 6 or 7 characters are sitting around the conference table as Scrooge & Marley are doing the worlds first hostile takeover. The long shot of the characters has Scrooge & Marley to the left of the screen during the conference. When the shot changes to a close up of Scrooge & Marley only, Marleys hands magically are clasped together on his abdomen, and the long shot has his thumbs tucked in his waist band, identical to Scrooge. Also look for the fastest burning candle in London, center of the scene when the maid comes in to tell Bob Cratchet to inform Scrooge that Marley is about to die. It there anyone who might know the name of the beautiful actress who appeared briefly towards the end of the film and took Scooges coat and hat? She was obviously Freds maid. She had no dialog, but such an enchanting face and smile, it has made me wonder all of these years who this beautiful lady was. Oh, and just one more thing to look for. The amazing moving punch decanter on the dining table of Cratchets table. It is towards the center in the family shot, then blocked by Peters hand in a two shot of he and his father, then moves back towards the center of the table, and finally migrates to the corner of the table. Ah, the magic of Christmas!! OK, I am finished. God Bless Us, Everyone!!!
