Arthur & Merlin (2015)
Not bad
This film is way better than most low budget movies I've seen. There have been plenty of others that i have rented and couldn't even finish watching. Sure the acting wasn't the best, but not the worst by far. The guy playing the wizard was pretty bad. I get the feeling that he just wasn't a good fit and would be better in something different. Maybe comedy? The story was good. The atmosphere was real. It kept a decent pace. It was definitely better than Scyfy original movies. Its worth watching. As far as all the fuss about fake reviews, as annoying as that is, you cant blame the people connected with the movie and their families for trying to build it up and get more people to watch. That doesn't mean its not a decent movie or that it shouldn't be given a shot.
Dark Skies (2013)
It's just a movie people!
I have no idea why I rented this movie because I'm not really into alien movies. I thought it was pretty good though. There are good points and bad points to it, as with any movie. I've noticed many of the reviews really picking it apart but it's a movie people!! Come on!! If you want something more intellectual rent a documentary or something! It's entertaining, even if it is a little predictable. There are a few creepy moments. This movie is by far not as cheesy as most alien movies out there that I've seen. There are some moments that seem to be common with other alien movies but there is some original writing in there as well, and the acting is good. It's worth watching if you can sit back and enjoy it without trying to analyze every bit of it.
Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Halloween fun!
This is the perfect Halloween movie! I loved it! It's not serious horror but it's not so over the top cheesy that it's stupid. It's just a fun movie and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's nice to have something different like this. Usually your choices are a cartoon special or something gory and disgusting for Halloween. I mean, I like horror movies, but come on! Sometimes it's a bit ridiculous with the shock and gore. This movie is a little bloody but it's not so much so that it gets aggravating. I really liked how all of the stories blended together. There's a little of everything from Halloween in this movie, which could have turned out a mashed up mess of ghosts, creatures, and urban legends. Instead, it's done so well that it flows perfect and is really enjoyable. Trick 'r Treat is definitely near the top of my list of movies to watch every Halloween!!
The Moth Diaries (2011)
not great but not bad
This movie is slow, predictable, & not in the least bit scary. It feels like a made for TV movie. Yet I still kind of enjoyed it! Lily Coles performance alone makes this movie worth watching. She's perfect in her part as the creepy new girl. The other lead actress isn't bad either. When it was over, there were still a couple of questions left unanswered. A really good movie will leave you turning things around in your head but in this case, once the main question is answered you just really don't care. In the end, not something to watch if you're in the mood for a good scare but not a total waste of time. I would rather see a movie like this one than a bloody gorefest with a crappy plot any day.
Yeogo goedam 3: Yeowoo gyedan (2003)
light horror
Even fans of horror movies are sometimes in the mood for something a little lighter & this fits the bill. It's not gory or intense. The story is good, as is the acting. I've read a lot of comments about the lesbian tone to it, but it's just barely. I didn't see the first two before this one but I might check them out one night when I want something easy to watch. This movie would be perfect for something like a 13 year old girls slumber party or something like that. If there is a lesson to be learned from this movie, more so than be careful what you wish for, it's use conditioner. The main characters have such gorgeous hair it will make you sick!!
Martyrs (2008)
should have been 2 separate films
I can't say that I enjoyed this movie, but then I don't think that was the point. It's very disturbing. I thought that the first 2/3 of the movie was better than the rest though. It was almost like watching 2 different movies put together. The first 2/3 was interesting & believable, even if it was upsetting. I was actually pretty engrossed until the story line veered off. The rest felt like it should have been a whole different film. There could have been more background to it(the last parts) & insight into the characters that were introduced later. It just felt to me like they decided to come up with a twist at the last minute & this was the result. It just didn't mesh well. I wouldn't recommend the movie itself to anyone. However, I thought the main actress was great. I look forward to seeing her in something a little less disgusting.
