Hightown: 29 Days Later (2024)
Riley Voelkel Kills It
An astonishingly powerful performance by Riley Voelkel, a standout performer among many virtuosos in this landmark series. Voelkel owns the screen in her meltdown with James Badge Dale (the kitchen scene), and the mutual confessional in the car is a tour de force of acting, directing, and writing. Though any relationship between life on Cape Cod and the gritty world of this series is dubious, as a dramatic work Hightown is a masterpiece, a series worthy of Emmys for its stars and for the creatives who have made it happen. It is tragic to think that a piece of work of this quality should be confined to Starz, and for the sake of everyone involved in its production, we can only hope that it migrates to Netflix or Prime. This kind of achievement should not get lost in the streaming desert.
