Before Sunrise (1995)
Very nice, plain, relaxing movie
I am not a great fan of love stories, but this one is a real masterpiece. I have watched the Notebook(2005),and this one was more convincing than it. Nothing spectacular happens in this movie, but the plain believable story wins my vote.
Though I saw this movie 2 decades form it release, the story doesn't feel old. Whole movie seems to be flawless and happening to be at one continuum through the night-time, which it was meant to be. The two characters are lovable and the whole story seems not to be forceful.
The love between the characters seems very real and not the made up one and that's the fact that makes it a really great love story.
Thank You for Smoking (2005)
Changes prospective towards Smoking.
This movie doesn't force you or even inspires you to smoke. But it really opens your view towards Smoking. Everybody knows how harmful smoking can be, but still lot of us smoke. So the message this movies very smartly tries to give away is that it really a matter of opinion how you view smoking.
Thank You For Smoking play a smart comedy on the topic of smoking and people behind the scene who want to eradicate the whole smoking issue by terrorizing people of it's ill effects.
Great satirical movie, Aaron Eckhart a real good guy playing a character that some what is a bad guy type.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Disturbing but grasping.
Perhaps this film is one of the many over-rated movies that could found on the IMDb's list of top 250 movies. Though it is disturbing it somehow manages to groove you into the life of Alex. All his sinful life is presented very sinfully, we wish that he should be punished. And he does get his share in the prison.
But the government introduces new law of changing the criminals into non -violent citizens. Alex seems very co-operating towards this new approach, but finds out that even with his will he can't do those violent activities again.
When he is released into the real world, all that used to be before gets changed and he got beat down so much so that we feel pity for him.
The Little Rascals (1994)
Child Version of the adults world
This movie is a heart warming tale of little children. A boy and a girl likes each other and wants to live together, same like most of the movies about love. They face a rough patch mainly due to the boy being a member of 'girl haters' club. His friends tries to help get the girl out of his life, in which they succeed. But the boy tries to get her back, who falls for a new to town rich guy.
It's the same struggle of a poor guy trying to get back his girl fighting against a rich powerful opponent. As many of the stories most might have seen , the story offers nothing different than most. The only reason to watch this movie might be because it has been performed by bunch of kids, which is very beautifully put forward on screen.
In the end of the story Well known celebrities are shown as the parents of the kids in the story, the facial resemblance gets us to believe they are really their children.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Out off center, definitely, but comedy????
The whole story is really out of center story. It is in every sense unique than other movies that I have seen till now. The main reason for watching this movies was because of the MTV award it received, and all box office collection being a low budget movie.
Movie was so off the center that I failed to grasp the story completely. Movie has its moments, all the character play within themselves. The comedy portion of the movie is bit on the down side because of the complexity in the plot regarding the story of the movie.
Movie is watchable but couldn't understand how it reached the popularity that it received.
Frankenweenie (2012)
Tim Burton's version of Classic Frankenstein.
If you know the progression of the classic Frankenstein movies than you can relate to the characters on display in this movie.Great re-imagination of a well-known character in a very unique story. Overall story is heart whelming, about a boy and his beloved dog, who dies and boy tries and succeeds in bring him back to life.
The story seems simple but all the things happening in the movies is work of Tim Burton's vision. Some of the gags in the movies is re-imagined from the classic Frankenstein movie in Burton's own way. The black and white look of the movie goes well with the mood of the film perfectly.
May not be the greatest animation movies ever but still is a unique and imaginative movie.
The X Files (1998)
Certain loopholes, but enjoyable.
It proves a great mix of science friction and mystery. All the conspiracy that government trying to keep it with itself about the existence of extra terrestrials and two individuals trying to uncover the fact in order to clear their names is the whole story.
Being a science friction leaves some points unexplained. But it's better unexplained than making it uninteresting trying over-explain. With the story is not about person to following his passion, but series of events leading him to such situation makes this movie more interesting.
This is not a horror movie but it still has some element of horror moments in it.
Hugo (2011)
Great Visual effects, but not so the movie.
The name Martin Scorsese had a huge reputation from prior films. Very much of his previous good works had been revolve around guns and violence, but not this one. This one is a very sensitive topic about a boy trying to fix his life.
The visual effects are stunning, maybe more so in 3D than in normal 2D. The opening sequence of the movies was stunning and it kept us hope for more to come, but it never came. The story-line was good but not really heart touching. It won 5 Oscars and all of them in technical category, which sums up it's potential.
Mild fine comical timing of Sacha Baron Cohen and commanding performance from veteran Ben Kingsly with excellent Asa Butterfield in Hugo's character made this Scorsese's first 3D movie watchable.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Mind blowing movie!!!
I have to admit that I find every movie involving time traveling or some sort a great one, and this one is no different. There are no correct logic to time traveling (till the time I have written this review, at least). So, all the people making fun of the flaws and loop holes in this movie must just appreciate the imagination and not the logic of this movie.
Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, are really convincing in each character in the movie. This movie really shows how one small moment can change the whole life. This movie shows how changing a certain action in certain point in the life can bring such vast change in the life that lies ahead. This maybe a pointless movies if someone is really looking for a good reason for the solving the mystery of time traveling.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Children and fans only.
This movies received a great amount of hype, that's the main reason for watching the movie. The story starts promisingly but the plot is predictable, though not totally boring. The fans of this book might know better on how the story goes in the book, but I really found it movie just made for the children only.
The main reason for this movies being such a hit maybe the reason of the fan following of the book itself. Certainly, it deserves a sequel as the story can be continued in a more interesting way that the non-fans of the book can also appreciate it. Most adults will get lots of points to criticize the scene but children will sure have a good time watching.
