Woodstock or Bust (2018)
An authentic character masterpiece
Woodstock or Bust is an authentic tale of aspiration, hope, envy and redemption. The two rising star leads really make the story fly and are backed up by a talented and well-directed supporting cast. Though the story as a whole is relatively simple, it is very real and unveils more complicated character flaws and traits as the film develops. It is a successful coming of age story - the point was never to make it to Woodstock, but to stand in solidarity with what really matters - friendship, love, peace and hope.
It is a film that doesn't shy away from the truths of life, whilst also being a plinth of hope in an ever divisive world.
Doctor Who: The Tsuranga Conundrum (2018)
I thought it was fantastic.
I honestly do not understand why this episode is getting bad reviews... I genuinely thought this was a fantastic story... The fact that the episode used the threat itself as the solution was inventive. Though the Pting wasn't the most threatening looking thing - it was still effective and didn't draw back too much... But, perhaps if it did look more threatening it could've made a big difference (so, perhaps that's not down to the writing). The characters are fantastically written, and I'm very enthused by Chibnall's term as showrunner so far.
I don't know why people are saying the story didn't have an ending... The ship docked, and the Doctor's teleport was being set-up.
I suggest those who were slightly put off to give it another chance.
Fantastic story, thanks Chibbers!
Doctor Who: Sleep No More (2015)
Possibly the best episode ever....
Wow.. What an episode! I am so impressed with how Mark Gatiss has evolved his writing. It appears Mark has finally found his perfect setting (the future). A lot of his previous efforts have maybe been a hit-and-miss (with the exception of 'Cold War' and 'The Crimson Horror'). However - 'Sleep No More' completely shatters that pattern, Mark has really delivered something unique and fantastic in an episode that will not be forgotten. I was not a fan of the removal of the title sequence, but I appreciate the context (being found footage). The design of the space station was bloody fantastic, the chase scenes were also brilliant. I thought that 'The Sandman' people were excellent and
by far the best monsters of the series. I am just so impressed by this episode - it has to be my favourite of the series.. or even my favourite ever!! Thank you Mark Gatiss!!
9.6/10
Doctor Who: Under the Lake (2015)
WOW. What an episode!!!
Hey - so it has a few *similar* (yet different) moments.. But this is an original story. It's scary, tense - and the characters are developed really nicely here. Whithouse never fails to impress when it comes to developing everything in the story - the business 'Vector Petroleum' has backstory and detail to it (it even has a slogan). The pre-titles scene really had intrigue behind it - fast paced and brilliant. The directing was fantastic - so hats off to Daniel for that. I can't wait for next week's Doctor Who episode 'Before the Flood'... Bring it on!!
So, I have to give this episode a rating.. Which is quite an obvious one to me.. The cliffhanger really did round the episode off nicely. In conclusion, this will definitely go on to be a fan favourite - I know it is for me. 9.6/10
Doctor Who: Death in Heaven (2014)
Absolutely AMAZING.
First of all, it'd be just wrong to give this episode anything below an 8. I saw that the ratings vote opened before it aired and a few people voted for a 1, which is unbelievably moronic and pathetic.
Anyway, onto the review. This episode is probably one of the best we've ever seen (as a two parter). (and obviously the best finale/cyberman episode). It's extremely sad to see Jenna Coleman 'leave' Doctor Who and also the fan favourite Osgood. We were thrown into the deep end at this episode and thrown out of our comfort zones (which is brilliant). We now know that the Doctor IS truly a good man.
The interruption of the credit scene at the end was truly hilarious and brilliant! Steven Moffat is an artist and this is his best piece of work ever.
Doctor Who: Dark Water (2014)
An AMAZING start to an AMAZING end.
Dark Water is a thrilling and tense build up to next week's final episode "Death in Heaven". This episode (by itself) is absolutely fantastic, not only is it extremely scary - but it's also very intriguing. We find out that 'Missy' is in fact 'The Master' which is what every Whovian has wanted for quite a long time! But the question that we all hold is 'Will Clara stay? or Will she die?'. I think that this episode CANNOT be judged on it's OWN - I think it's wrong for IMDb viewers to give this episode such a low rating. Besides, a TRUE Whovian WOULD NOT give this a rating below 8. I am so excited for the finale next week - these next seven days will feel like seven years!! Overall - It's leading onto an amazing finale
Doctor Who: In the Forest of the Night (2014)
An original, enjoyable, funny and clever episode
There are a couple of flaws in this episode but it is covered by the excellent plot, visuals and solution. The child actors are good (with the exception of a few) but it all works so well. The pre-titles scene of this episode is very clever visually. The episode is well structured and well thought out. I enjoyed the fact that the character 'Ruby' was so confident and bold - which was hilarious! Frank Cottrell-Boyce has created an ORIGINAL episode which is both serious AND funny - it felt very different from a regular episode of Doctor Who- which is good. The character 'Mave' was very well developed and her back story was sewed in nicely.
Well done Mr. Cottrell-Boyce! I'd love to see him return in the future to see what else he will come up with.
Doctor Who: Mummy on the Orient Express (2014)
A thrilling train ride through space with an unexpected twist!
'Mummy on the Orient Express' is not only the best Doctor Who episode in Series 8, but one of the best in the whole of 'New Who'. The Foretold was an excellently developed monster and it was presented (visually) fantastically - The fact that the monster ACTUALLY HAD a story to it (being a soldier in a previous life) was brilliant. With the computer (GUS) being part of the problem was unexpected and creepy - The voice was creepy and fitted the computer very well. Jamie Mathieson (the writer) is brand new to the Doctor Who writing team, and by God he should stay! His writing is just incredibly well done - It was original and exciting. The episode DID NOT feel rushed at all, it felt like a feature-length film which was extremely enjoyable.
This episode deserves a 10/10 because it's everything a viewer could want from watching Doctor Who, it has EVERY element of Doctor Who in it - We even got to see a futuristic city as well! A truly OUTSTANDING episode.
Doctor Who: Listen (2014)
Amazing, Terrifying, Clever
Listen had elements of Classic Doctor Who and Modern Doctor Who. Both Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman put on a brilliant performance. This episode is real nightmare fuel for people of all ages, but the fact that there wasn't a solution to this story makes it even more scary - We'll be getting more links back to this episodes.
The fact that Danny Pink hasn't been introduced to time travel yet is clever. The links to Orson and Rupert in the episode are interesting. Just from seeing this episode, we can tell that Clara's character will be much better developed as well as the Doctor and Danny. In conclusion, This is one of Moffat's best.
