Æon Flux (2005)
Shocked.... (Very Minor Spoilers)
It is hard to believe things this bad are still coming out of Hollywood. You would think with so many Matrix-wannabe movies out there (and have also failed) that at least ONE educated writer would he this amazingly bad script and burnt it. Not to mention the screen writer also did a horrific job, the style of the movie was all put together terrible, not that the style itself was bad, it just wasn't set out properly.
The characters are designed very different to the original, one thing I have an eye for is character make-up. Charlie herself could not have looked much worse, her face looks very bad and uncovered. The fringe on the side of her face appears to cover some bad skin although it could be my imagination, you will have to see for yourself. Never do you really feel for any of the characters, they have a lack of depth, and I don't think there are any real characters you can go home and think "Hey He/She was pretty cool in that movie." As some reviewers have already said, as soon as you see Aeon give a message to some guy in a pill by kissing him, you immediately think (wow...I'm in for a long night). The plot isn't hard to predict on any level, however once the story reveals itself in full, it might make you think twice about burning the movie, and perhaps make you give this movie to a homeless man instead.
Now with a foreseeable plot, terrible style representation, bad character representation and casting, perhaps this could end up like a HK film, and have amazing action? Wrong again, If you like hardly being able to understand what the hell is going on in the action, this is for you. For action sequences (more so, fight sequences) there are at least 3shots in half a second, usually this happens because the action itself cannot be done by the actor or there is horrific choreography. And the 'flipping' through explosions and flying darts scene is probably the worst of many things in the movie, but there are too much to debate between.
IMO, this is Charlie's Angles meets Matrix/Trinity character. It is the worst movie I think I have ever seen or reviewed in my lifetime. If you are a fan of the original, you will be very disappointed at it is very different in so many respects. Half way through this movie I just wanted to go home and sleep, and sadly enough, my best mate did fall asleep 1/3 of the way through.
Horrible. If you have an educated brain, don't damage it, avoid Aeon Flux.

Why the bad rap?
The Myth is definitely some of the best stuff to come from JC Films in a while (well at least 2 years.) As Jackie takes a step into uncharted genre just like New Police Story, this is his 2nd step (of a so-far 3step) in created new borders for his films. And it's quite good at that.
As usual, there is cheese. Not all that bad however, but It is still in there to attract fans of his old movies. But the action is rather good for JC in his day and age, just as in New Police Story. Jackie gives a brilliant performance as a Qin Dynasty General, he seems to slip into that character perfectly. The soundtrack is good, story average and fantastic special effect (minus 1 waterfall scene). If you like good action, Dynasty style films, films of fantasy or the 'common guy with an extraordinary story' style films, this will be for you.
Previously a few reviewers have noticed bad remarks, obviously not the best reviewers since this movie WAS nominated for 4 separate awards in 2006. The films only falls short of a 10 IMO because of some common HK integrated flaws in the movie, such as a bunch of things happening for no reason and some things not clearly explained, but other than that, its a treat to watch more than once.

Don't get too hyped up
With all the hype around for Quentin's new film, one would think that you would go and see it expecting the best. Like many of his films, this is another rated with superb reviews and such. Let me just say this is not a great movie. Once again Quentin grasps the ideals that children and young adults love, with corny and predictable results. This movie truly tried to be "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", but wasn't. Flying around, near to exact soundtrack, desert scenarios, an intense love story (that wasn't in this situation) and sword fights. It fails in nearly every category, amazingly crap fights, with the exception of Donnie Yen's early fight. The fights truly are horrid, and I am a major martial arts fan. Flying around etc. Like Jet's other recent films, I believe this will give Jet Li an even worse "not the real deal, wire climbing martial artist" look. The love story was rather bland and the soundtrack just sounded like a rip-off. Let me suggest why this movie is horrid:
- Terrible Fights, and thats what supposedly keep this movie interesting!
- Below-par story, While it is unique, as Quentin always tries, this time it was just too repetitive and uninteresting.
- Another attempt at being unique by Quentin that just goes too far
- I nearly fell asleep half-way through this movie
- Amazingly corny, and too old school, think "Kung Fu Theater"
I must however mention Crouching Tiger is a great movie, but Hero just tries too hard. So what was the goods of this movie? SOME nice scenarios, but wreaked by the story...the emperor of Qin wears nice armor, Jet Li is cool (but not in this movie).
Seriously, if you are a child, you may enjoy this movie. It honestly appears to be written for kids. I honestly do not see how this can entertain adults who are modern movie-goers.
2/10, "Watchable, but dead crap"

Great Jackie Film
This movie contains the apparent 'best jackie chan fight' ever, which is why I bought it, I guess I expected too much. The last fight really is excellent, but didn't top Drunken Master, or 'Gorgeous' for my standards.
What really stunned me about the last scene was the excellent choreography, and Benny "The Jet"'s great skill. The actually thought this may be Jackie's best "Movie" even if the fight scene at the end was his 3rd best IMO. Sammo Hung is really quite a character, good acting skills and a unique look, not to mention he is a skilled Martial Artist. The plot, as simple as it is, leaves you quite entertained through-out the movie, and Lola Forner is great too. I only wish my DVD has better English subtitles!
10/10
