Reviews
Prey (2022)
Prey is the One, the long wait has ended
In the very beginning it's all about the young girl who wants to be her brother's equal and all hunters for that matters, but being a Comanche and a ...girl makes it a little more hard, of course, right?
From there, it's a tremendous movie, it's all about Naru and her tribe who fight for food, but also while pursuing a mountain lion, they will encounter a 'demon' and because they are fierce and foolhardy, they'll fight against an alien who's far more strong and armed for it.
I read a lot of (bad) reviews because, you know, Dutch and his band of brothers has been wiped out by the Predator with modern weaponry, so, how Indians with bows and axes would do better?
The same, as in most of all opuses, until Schwartzy uses his wisdom and cunning instead of his guns, he was going to die, cunning was the answer.
After the Shane Blake disaster/nightmare and other misfires, It's the most Predator movie ever after the 1st one, Prey is highly enjoyable and to be frank, I was sure it would be bad, nope,
I recommend this to anyone.
Malignant (2021)
I liked it a lot
Didn't watch the whole trailer to kept the surprise, and tought it was again some powerfull spirit tourmenting Anabelle Wallis.
I was so wrong, James Wan did it again, it's a hommage to the 80's horror movies (the good ones) lots of good jump scares and what a twist, when you think you understood what's going on, you find out it wasn't even close.
It was fun, great and what more can be said, that any one else would have failed probably to deliver such a cool movie.
Greenland (2020)
Greeland and Buttlerr delivers
Reading the reviews here, there is people who probably live in Arkansas in a bunker or have one in case, you know, the apocalypse.... and wanted a documentary on what's life will be when the meteorites will hit the planet.
Others that had nothing better to do and people who like movies like this.
I'm of the latter and say that it's one of the greatest movie in the genre since long, and I wasn't expecting that at all.
Of course, it has plot hole, characters making bad decisions at the worst moment blaa blaa, but look at them, the wife is a 'suburb soccer mum', he is an engineer, the kid has diabetes, how it can be a walk in the park?
She's on her own most of the movie with a sick kid, they have just being rejected from the only supposed flight to safety while Earth will be destroyed, do you really think she (you)'ll be that aware and focus? You/she wouldn't make mistakes?
In the meantime he's rushing to find them back, most of the encounter he faces could be real, he's really unlucky but, (there are places on earth where someone will cut your finger if the ring looks expensive enough) so the wristband is like the Holy Grail for many.
The only let down is when they open the bunker, and you see the bird, 6 months later, that's a fast recovery..., but it's the western morale you know, it has to be this way or people will be even more depressed.
The Unholy (2021)
It was a brilliant idea but
I was impatient to see this one, the script looked brilliant, but if it's not a bad movie, it just felt rushed and a bit empty.
The demonic presence making the young woman looks the one chosen by Mary to perform miracles was good obviously, it's all about deceiving, but we knew from the get go what and who it was, so no more twist.
In the end it's like the curse of the Llorona, an average movie which could have been a hit.
I Care a Lot (2020)
how can you produce, direct or even think of this
Morality in western cinema is so bold sometimes...,
she is a woman you would shoot in the head and bury her under her house without any remorse or guilt, she tried to play with a Russian mob leader (from whom, she stole almost everything, without knowing him in the 1st place), but that's the problem, he is a gangster, so he can't win either right, they'll end up partner in crime.
She will be shot dead at one point by a poor guy (who lost his mother and all her economy to her greed) for a good and sweet moral ending.
2 stars instead of 1 because Peter Dinklage play the Russian guy, 2 stars only because it was meant to be a comedy, it is for 10 mins then it's 'why I'm watching this 'till the end?'
The Rain (2018)
That's a good one
We live in a time of Tv series, movies of Zombies, everywhere, it is as if there was no reason to do anything else! and then you see 'The rain'.
What a relief, that's good, from start to finish.
A kind of Umbrella corp.. - Appolon- has released a virus in the rain to test it, a man knows it (he created it to save his son)and goes to get his daughter to school because he wants to hide his family in a bunker high -tech. He will be leaving soon to go out for analysis and from there, many events will occur. The children are children and want to save the world so, they open up to an already infected man, killing their mother in the process, the virus in the rain is really deadly, it's going to kill you almost instantly,(all happen so suddenly, they didn't really process it yet) it does not turn people into something else, they touch you during incubation = you die, you hit a corpse = you die and so on, simple !
they are now alone, Rasmus aged 11 and Simone 17 who is in charge of him as per her father ordered because he is the 'key', all alone while the world is falling apart. They will wait for their father to come back as promised for 6 years, they do not know what's going on outside, but even more, they do not know anything about life either and it's interesting.
One day, six years later, the bunker sounds the alarm, the process of air regulation is malfunctioning, it is almost too late when the boy, aged 17 now, drags his sister out to discover that is a group of survivors who did it to enter. and find food.
Many events are relevant, there are some plot holes but it's refreshing anyway, because after all (no conspiracy theories here), why not ?! there are many synthetic viruses or chemical weapons created by men.
I really like the photography, the atmosphere, the psychology of 2 children who know almost nothing facing a catastrophic event, the fellowship, all their friends (Beatrice, Patrick, Lea )have a fast story that you learn on the way, what happens to them just before the rain and for once, the most conscious guy (Martin) you've ever met in a 'end of the World story'
I recommend it to everyone, this 1st season is a success for me.
Den of Thieves (2018)
"Heat" with no Diva for a good heist movie
I love Pacino and DeNiro (who does not), 'heat' was a good movie and M.Mann knows his work, but too much hype, too much Pacino / DeNiro stuff made me think that this was not so good. To be fair, it was not such an event as most people think.
Den of Thieves is a copy, you can not deny it, a clever one, G. Butler and his bad boys are not easy and almost worse than the ones they pursue in LA, they should have chosen another city , less glamorous, to better match the sheriff's biker look and crew or team Merrimen and detach from the 'original'.
It started as the fall of a professional gang that had to kill cops while hijacking an armored car, it was not at all expected, which led sheriff 'Big Nick' O 'Brien (G Butler), who led a special robbery unit, on to track them specifically and soon discover that they may have been the perpetrators of some bank robberies (well executed) in recent years. This is the gang of Merrimen, all of them old marines and ready to kill to go 'clean' if they must, from there it is the cat and mouse until the ultimate heist.
G. Butler or Shreiber are not diva here, none of them are kidding, it's fast paced and I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end (with a good twist).
It's a solid film, yes it's a copy of 'heat' on many scenes, but it's more of a feeling you'll have to watch it, O 'Brien is by no means comparable to Hanna, they are two different cop characters or Merrimen and McCauley the same.
The Crucifixion (2017)
A real story loosely adapted in a really bad movie
The scenario began with a good idea: a young journalist had every reason to crush the church because of her mother's death and had discovered a story far from New York in Romania.
She's the niece of an obscur newspaper's chief editor so, she get the job on going to Romania to reveal the truth about a priest who is accused of killing a nun during a exorcism with 4 other nuns.
The priest tried to save her from a demon because while she was in Germany, she had sex with a guy, as a nun she became weak and as a result was possessed, apparently the priest think god is speaking through him and there is no alternative, it's either you have faith or are possessed.. humm ok!
The main actress is weaker than the nun, she's not credible at any time, she looks more like a teen who badly need gossip for her university weekly news and doesn't like God because her mother had faith and rejected her daughter's cure once, which is understandable somehow, she will find faith anyway, in a blink of a eye in the end to save herself.
There is jump scares, you'll see them coming from a mile away when it's not just a loud sound followed by a guy behind a window, few scenes, which are flashback, are not so bad and give some weight to this but you quickly wish to the journalist that every demon look after her.
Glass (2019)
It's more fragile than Mr Glass himself
I agree with many that, James McAvoy deserve all the glory and awards for is acting in Split and here again, he is fantastic but then..
A baby old man who like so much comics, think life just mimic all the stories he has loved along the way in a kind of really twisted schizophrenia, so, he definitely belong in the asylum until he found the beast, who's for him the ultimate human being and force to join to destroy the world he hate so much, while B.willis is the man who will save it for us.
The main problem of the movie is :who cares for those characters, it has been a long time since "Unbreakable" even for Split and if McAvoy steal the show, B.Willis do the exact same boring guy as usual, the man is a pain to watch for so long now, most of his films are just bait and here more than ever.
All heroes don't wear cape is the reason for this mess, the twist in the end isn't even a good one, a bunch of "Illuminati" in a restaurant watch the world to stop any form of supra natural or weird human behavior and kept it from chaos..
So, S.Paulson had 3 days to find a goal for a guy who's been hovering over 20 personalities in the last 30 years, another one who hates his peers so much that he would kill her with a nuclear bomb, of course, she failed. They will discover that everything was linked between the 3, that's why we have this last meeting and the "watchers" are the one who will set it all up
I really like Shyamalan, the man who wanted to make his 1st movie ever with B.Willis and did it, "the sixth sense" is still one of the greatest movie and the follow up wasn't as bad as people claimed it was,
If I do not like the ultra fast action movie these days, it was almost boring right from the start,I really wanted to like that, ordinary people who are extraordinary without Stark's business or Wayne's billion, spiders, they all come from comics, do not they? it was promising but it does not work.
How It Ends (2018)
I always want to see by myself, I was right
The reviews were so bad, but the trailer was promising with the always good Forest Whitaker, so I watched it because you know, I can waste time for less and it was worth it .
Well something happen on the West coast while Theo James is chatting with his GF /Kat Graham about another missed opportunity to talk (about wedding and pregnancy )with her father/F.Whitaker (who doesn't like him much), in Chicago, when a black out occur and they lose contact.
In a matter of hours,
all planes are grounded,Seattle is now on another planet, so, he has to go back to Sam's parent to learn that Tom will drive to find his daughter back, with or without him.
From there it's a kind of apocalyptic road trip which I found a little (very little) bit slow paced, from dumb looters to armed militia on the road, visiting surviving friends, the US army has closed the only one highway so it'll take a few days to reach Seattle, but it's definitely well made. F.Whitaker isn't a GI joe, an ex Seal or special others forces, he is just a Vet, who can see a threat when his stepson lawyer wants to help everyone or get in trouble along the way.
In fact, I must say it's one of the most relevant movie in this genre since a long time,
Take the US, a catastrophic event followed by a total blackout, no news, every network shutted down, only rumours of "korea did this, Russia did that, or China may be" and half of the country will be in the street armed to the teeth.
The end in fact is perfect, I don't get the problem with it, is it because you don't know what or who cause this? who cares it's not the point.
I recommend this to everyone
The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter (2018)
Watch the trailer and you will be good
It's like if 2 friends goes on a hike with their son on a saturday afternoon, filmed it and think it'll be good, (because it's kind of a satyr with a few (bad jokes)) to release it as a movie.
If you need to see this as a showcase on to why hunting is dumb, well nothing can save you.
If you think this is funny to watch you are probably a fan of W.Ferrel, which I'm definitely not!
I'm a fan of Josh Brolin, Old boy, Sicario, Only the brave, Everest etc.. he is good really, but not here, it's boring to say the least, I agree with many here, this epic failure tried too much to be funny and fall flat.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
I've missed Roy until I found Love.
I agree with Peterfaure's review here because I'm a fan of R.Scott and Blade Runner is one of his masterpieces, so when they started talking about a sequel, R.Scott was mandatory of course, instead they chose D.Villeneuve, as a Canadian, I was delighted and I was also worried.
From my point of view, (I watched Blade runner once a year since its release), D.Villeneuve did his own masterpiece, I mean, what R.Scott's BR 2019 could have been with today's technology,
D.Villeneuve has developed his own vision in the Scott universe, you know immediately where you are and the story is catching up in the opening as you imagine Dekard and Rachel driving away to this place (if you've already admitted that the sunny weather and the forest at the end was one of the unicorns in the 1st).
If I'm not a big fan of Ryan Gosling, I have to say, here, from his recent movies where he's still this guy without expression, except sometimes, a burst of anger, found his purpose;
As a replicant he is subtle enough to display emotions due to his memory implants, he lives with a hologram, Joi (Ana de Harmas) but instead of an anti-hero like H.Ford / Deckard, it's just KD6 / 3.7, a tool, another human face, used by the LAPD to track down older products like D.Bautista (which deserve more important roles) in the first few minutes;
Morton is not a 'Roy', 'replicants' these days' have found a way to live far from civilization until the end, until you meet love (S.Hoeks) she is as beautiful, ... smart and perfect as Rachel was, but also ruthless and mortal as Roy was too, as K. says, "if he has named you, you must be special!"
Wallace (J.Lehto) is the new technology. guru, the Creator, since Tyrell died long ago leaving a legacy of Nexus more human than human, seeking the definitive Path of Life in his children, probably 99% an AI himself, will give Love the full power to find the inconceivable.
Lt.Joshi (R.Wright) and K found a body in a hidden crate at the bottom of Morton's farm that can destroy the thin balance between human and AI, in fact, Tyrell was a genius because the human remains in this box. are of a woman who gave birth and she has a serial number.
The recent suites play a lot on nostalgia, who as a fan was not happy to see Han Solo pass the Millenium Falcon door?
Here is the same feeling, at least for me, seeing Deckard (H.Ford) face to face with another Blade runner was the end of a 35+ years wait, Harrison Ford does not make an appearance in as a guest and of course reinforce the wonderful cast all the way to the end.
Well, even though I've missed a lot of Roy's poetry (Rutger Hauer), a strong musical score like Vangelis did, you'll have everything, a soundscape, a dark atmosphere and ... time, D.Villeneuve took the time to install his story and it is a movie, I will recommend for sure, it's a must.
The coolest thing for me is that I can and I will watch BR 2019 and then 2049 right after, because:
if only all the sequel were that good.
Shot Caller (2017)
Wonderful performance by Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau
I've been waiting for this movie from the moment i've watched the trailer, the story of this man who was a business man once and became a Aryan leader in jail to, in fact, only survive against all odds.
N.Coaster-Waldau has made his break through with (Black Hawk down/R.Scott-2001)and i've been a fan ever since; His range in acting is so great to watch, he can be a teacher or a warrior,(we all know him, now, by "Jamie Lanister" in GOT) he can play everything; as you will see in Shot caller, when in jail or in the street in front of his bothers, he is "Money" a ruthless member of an Aryan brotherhood, but in private he is still the man who once killed his best friend, in a DUI accident and wanted to endure the full sentence to forgive himself. It's simply one of his best work so far.
But he is not alone, it's a strong performance here for every actor, Jon Bernthal, O.Hardwick, H.McCallany they all fit their characters really well, their is no compromises they have, all, nailed their parts.
The scenario from director Vic Roman Waugh,(after Felon (stephen Dorf/Val Kilmer)or Snitch with Dwayne Johnson/Jon Bernthal ) is really powerful, i've also found that, this one has a Michael Mann feel/influence in it, the way he uses the lights, close ups reminds me of (Collateral-2004 for ex.) and made it more raw and brutal.
Finally, special mention for Michelle Tesoro's editing.
As you can see, the movie didn't disappoint at all, for me it's one of the greatest movie of 2017 and i would recommend it to anyone.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Finally..
..they've reached the dam..Airlock, everybody agree, the very first Alien was/is a masterpiece, nobody can do better except R.Scott.
So for me, Alien Covenant is as good as Prometheus is a disaster, Prometheus was beautiful, design wise and bad because of the weakest women lead in the franchise or the lack of a strong one, here it's more like the very 1st one.
We follow a colony ship -the Covenant- who must reach a new planet with 2000 people +crew and embryos to start over, they'll have to stop, because of an accident during a routine made by Walter (M.Fassbender)which lead to woke up the Crew earlier and then because they'll receive a com. from a smaller planet around, this time it's not Mother who stop the ship and it's the captain who order the discovery mission, (you know, between 7 yrs in Cryo sleep and a few weeks to reach a new heaven, it's easy to choose.)
Every thing will go wrong as soon as they arrive because, even after a century of space travel, they are not prepared to walk somewhere else than on the good old Earth. When they land it's Earth like, but there is nothing except forest, water, lakes and ..wheats, no birds ,bugs, or any single animals, just some form of pollen; Now take a women who is in charge of a shuttle but can't handle a sick person without a panic attack and it will opens hell's gate for the whole crew.
They'll be rescued by the only one person around, an hermit played by.. M.Fassbender-who is terrific here- (like in Prometheus BTW)and if you remember Prometheus, you'll know at first sight where they are.
the 1st good point is, even the cast isn't unknown, they are not that famous which is really good (for me) (i've seen alien the 8th passenger in theatre, i was young and i just know , T.Skerrit and J.Hurt by that time) they all did good, but a really special mark for Katherine Waterston, she don't have a cat, but what she surely have is, Rippley's spirit and.. balls.
the 2nd one, whether some people here like it or not, A.Covenant is the best sequel to the 1st one than any other, of course they'll do the same mistakes, of course you know what's gonna happen, but it's more dramatic, it's less claustrophobic (slightly),more fast paced.
Thirdly, R.Scott used a lot from the 1st and a few idea from the 2nd and the 3rd opus in this one.
Don't think i've spoiled many thing here, but you'll discover a bigger treat than the Xenomorph himself in this story.
I don't know if there will be a follow up but i hope so, for those who says R.Scott killed the franchise, they are really wrong.
i recommend this to anyone who like Aliens
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
''We were Warriors''
wasn't expecting such a powerful movie from director M.Bay, but here it is, as per some others said already it could have been more , some extra scenes would have explained better why they've been almost ''left for dead'' in Lybia.
All, ALL the cast is really good, James Badge Dale nailed it as the commandant of this special unit, all the members are Ex-Seal or black ops, J.Krasinsky did it as well, he wanted to do some drama role and here is navy seal but a newbie in the crew, Max Martini, always rock solid in this kind of role and so are the others.
It's powerful as Lone Survivor/2013 was, a different story of course, but 6 men have spent 13 hrs in hell to keep 24 Cia's members alive and themselves while their government was thinking if it would be a good move to , may be, help them. You know the deal, it's more easy to forget about 30 peoples which are not supposed to be here instead having to explain to the whole world why Americans were still in this country.
Their opponents are only people with weapons, but rather dangerous because of inexperience, everything can happen and almost will, they have lost 2 of 6 men after a fight against hundreds rebels, they were not super hero, they had a real tactical advantage plus experience.
my Title is "we were Warriors" because of "We were soldiers/2002" but also because all survivors have quit and retired for good after that and must be proud of what they've done that night.
If you like good war movies, like Black hawk down, Lone survivor and the like, watch this, it's one of the best.
The Fate of the Furious (2017)
It's all about families
when i saw the trailer, i've said "what a waste of money for almost nothing ..new!". Well, they've spent a lot of cash here, nowadays it's hard to drag people in theatre, but for some parts in the movie, it was well done.
Forget about any logic or physics here, it's entertainment right? even sometimes it goes really too far, i can believe (mostly), that a Sub will chase fast cars on ice, or any cars stunts really (who cares? they can't die on screen^^), but the chase in NYC with autopilot cars is dumb to say the least and so on.
Then there are families, Torreto and his own band of brothers, Paul Walker's soul is there too, you'll see it , Hobbs and his daughter, even the Shaws are a family remember, F7?.
Deckard (J. Statham) is back with.. Owen (L. Evans) and of course they have a mother M.Shaw(Dame H. Mirren) Because of family, Dom will betray everybody and everything he believes in before, the scenario isn't that bad but a it's bit chaotic.
C.Theron is really brilliant as the Armaggedon for this opus, Scott Eastwood is a new comer in the F&F and a good one, K.Russel is perfect as Mr Nobody, T.Gibson is always the funniest guy in the band, M.Rodriguez loves V.Diesel more than ever, well, all good,
BUT, they've made a mistake once, they've cast D,Johnson who is still great don't worry, but the man is huge.., i mean, he is a star on his own, and almost steal the show.
It was good to watch, i've loved it because of the family plot but most of it because of J.Statham and D.Johnson chemistry, it's obvious they must (need to) do something together.
Well, as you probably know, Universal is thinking of a spin off with Deckard Shaw, Hobbs and Mr Nobody as their mentor, Chris Morgan would be the writer so i just say don't think, DO IT!, i can't wait to see the two in a full action movie on their own.
Hyeomnyeo: Kar-ui gi-eok (2015)
it's not Crouching tigers & Hidden Dragons
Far from it, it's look alike in the way it's set, but this movie gets its own soul.
it's not a story, it's poetry about Love, betrayal and vengeance.
Byung-Hun Lee is perfect playing a man consumed by greed who rise from nobody to one of the most powerful lords in the area, killing everyone who stand against him. Do-Yeon Jeon play his love and the mother who raises her girl to be the hand of justice. Go-Eun Kim is the One,raised to kill the 2 persons who betrayed and killed her parents. all are magnificent in their roles.
it won't go as attended for all of them, but, you must see it by yourself, I insist, you won't be disappointed.
Blood Father (2016)
Mel is back but..
i agree with some of the reviewer here, this movie is watchable at least, besides, it's not Mel Gibson's fault, the director have made a mess of a movie which could have been good without all the retro- instant-flashback on some scene, it's a pain to watch and not interesting.
the script is quit good, really , M.Gibson as a father who seek for redemption is solid, as he was in ''Age of Darkness'', he was a bad guy once, tattoo artist (obvious right! :P) nowadays looking for his daughter Erin Moriarty who had disappeared from her mother's house.
She,now, lives with a band of bad kids, when everything goes wrong, she'll call for help, then it's all about survival with all the band trying to kill her and her father. He'llhave to go back to his old friends, seeking for help, the Nazi reference is a bit hilarious, regarding what happen to M.Gidson the last few years.
this movie made me think that Mel Gibson could have a been an amazing choice for G. Miller on Fury road if not the best. it's not that bad, it's a disappointment
Jason Bourne (2016)
J.Bourne is Matt Damon
and Matt Damon will be forever Bourne, the character is embedded in him.
As a huge fan of the Bourne movies, i wasn't expecting much after a few review i've read here but finally, it's great as the other movie were at the time. don't get it wrong, J.Reiner was a really good substitute in Bourne Legacy and it was good because of the script based on the program instead of one specific character, but, i'm very glad they've made this sequel,
P.Greengrass knows his job, meaning, when he came on board, do you remember? it was instantly a new kind of action movie, and here he is at his best, it's always fast paced, fights, even a walk is not like any where else, car chases, they've always pushed the limit, here the bar is raised again.
J.Bourne is getting old, but, he is still smart, trained and really deadly, even i wish i would have seen her more in this opus, J.Stiles is still one of the character you'll miss if she's not around, this time is the last, but she deliver as N.Pearson,
the good surprise is Vincent Cassel, the very 1st time i've seen him was ''La Haine'', ',Crimson Rivers and Mesrine, here he is the Asset, the hunter, i won't give away to much, but he and Bourne have a unfinished business, V. Cassel give a stunning performance here and i wish i'll see him soon in another good action movie, as a personal thought, a movie made by O.Marchal for example.
T.Lee Jones is here, man of few words who wants to close definitely the Bourne chapter like many others, it's time to move on and have some fresh blood, A.Vickander is the one, she's the head of the C.I.A's Cyber division and want full control to stop Bourne and Pearson, she will have everything she need for, even , T.Lee Jones, like B.Cox in Bourne Supremacy before, is playing 2 cards.
In the mess which is internet nowadays, i've found the script relevant enough, the CIA is helping a Cyber genius to built a secure and private network, no one can hack but in fact can be controlled by the government, of course because of Bourne and Pearson it won't happen even they didn't know anything about in the 1st place
I've enjoyed the movie from start to end, i must admit, P.Greengrass always gave us more and more in every opus however here, it's again the same kind of story but every thing is there, great actors, their presence is sometime enough to make the scene a good one like it was for J.Allen or D.Strathairn, a good script, every details, the music etc..
Enjoy this one as well and by the end (like in a lot of recent movie) you'll see a '' may be'' we'll have a 5Th
Warcraft (2016)
i must have seen it in theatre
there is a non official club in the video game world, those who have played (or still do)World of Warcraft (not Warcraft, that's another club :P) and those who don't, it's not a elitist statement, just expectations.
i've played this games since the beginning and was sure, the movie they've been talking about since 2006 or so will be a failure, i didn't even watch the preview nor read anything about, then a few weeks ago, a friend , player as well, told me it was a solid and well made movie about '' our'' world and i would be surprised by it.
i must say it's absolutely stunning, as a fan, it's a pleasure to see a universe you've spend so much time in, become somewhat ''real''.
the cast deliver a great performance, Ben Foster is stunning, as the others, for once Orcs looks like beast, kind of Hulk remastered, human must be smarter and clever to defeat them,CGI is exactly what i was looking for, especially the magic, i've been blown away by the visual, well.. a blast.
the only downside (little), is that you need to be a fan or player to know what's going on, to know the places, why and who is Garona?, Why Guldan, if there is a sequel, they'll probably develop it more, who knows.
As a fan i give 8/10, but i'm sure other people are a bit confused on what and when, then it's all about entertaining and Warcraft didn't miss
Westworld (2016)
look for the fly
I was waiting for this new TV series by HBO and let say i'm not disappointed, it's exactly what i was expecting.
The cast, A.Hopkins sarcastic and a bit lunatic, i'm sure he likes more his robots than his staff, Ed Harris ruthless and a big (?) so far, J.Wright the right hand of ''God'', the sweet T.Newton, queen of the saloon, are brilliant, then, E.Rachel Wood the poor little girl who is stunning.
i was a fan of another series by JJ Abrahams, ''Almost Human'', which was a tech geek TV show on Fox, so, when i knew the man was involved in something of this quality, plus, Jonathan Nolan (the brother) as the director and co writer with his wife, it was again an instant GO.
the 1st scene I've ever seen on preview, was when E. Rachel Wood is sitting on a chair totally stoic in a kind of sterile room, you have this fly, it walks on her face and comes to settle on her pupil for a few seconds, then you see her walking down the stairs with her lovely smile in the west, it was a blast and as per the last scene, believe me, i will watch this show from now on
well, HBO is giving a free preview for the 1st episode, just check by yourself.
i've seen a few brilliant actors saying recently, that, now most of the good script and parts are on T.V, Westworld, GoT, the Sopranos and so on, i think they are right.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
a really great movie to watch
i was a fan of the Avengers (60'') with P.McNee and Diana Rigg (how sweet it was to see her again in Games of Throne :) ) or The Persuaders but The man from U.N.C.L.E with R.Vaughn and D.McCallum wasn't such a big deal;
However, if ''The avengers the movie (1998)'' was a total failure, ""The Man from ONCLE'' is really a good movie, G. Ritchie did a really good job, He knew how to capture the original spirit of the series; A. Hammer, ''Kuryakin'' is just good instead of H. Cavil who nailed it as ''Solo'', A. Vikander did an excellent job as well and finally H. Grant was the perfect cast for the role of Waverly future head of this so special division.
It's like a standalone episode, it settled the main characters quickly, (you'll know enough of them in the first 15 min or so), throughout a full story, instead of maybe doing a full action sequel later like others, at the end it could have been a great new franchise, quite refreshing in the spy movies genre. It's a shame that it's not worked well worldwide
I've really liked it from the stylish opening to the very last scene.
and besides, i definitely think, Henry Cavil would be a great Bond if Daniel Craig doesn't want to work for her Majesty anymore.
Dalkomhan insaeng (2005)
How can it be possible?
yes, how! how can this man, Kim Jee-Wong be the same man who made The Last stand?
I wish I would have discovered it sooner, my goodness, better later than never right? I became a huge fan of Lee Byung Hun only recently, not only because of his martial art skills, certainly because of his amazing acting skills, this guy is absolutely great in any part he play;
I was looking for something else than Terminator, aha-ha.. and found ''I saw the Devil'' which for me is, from now on, a masterpiece, then I look forward and finally get ''Bitter Sweet life''. It's better in so many ways than any American action flick, a total blast, Well, i've discovered Korean cinema, in the best way i suppose
Sicario (2015)
When the law can't solve all the problem
i've watched it for the 2nd time yesterday and it was the right moment i suppose, because everything became clear, i mean, the 1st time it was like reading a book from right to left but, something was there.
i'm sure D.Villeneuve like P.Berg and S.Soderberg's works, there is this documentary kind of style like Berg and those close-ups, lights like Soderberg, i've absolutely loved Traffic and of course the last kingdom or Lone survivor, Sicario could have been made by both of them.
Matt (J.Brohlin) is perfect, a cool guy you can probably share a beer with on Sunday afternoon, but he is also a spec op who get the power to go anywhere and change the rules of engagement on taking any opportunities, like hiring B.Del Toro who was a attorney in Mexico once and seek for revenge against the man who killed his family whatever it takes, that's why he team up with Americans.
at 1st sight, Benicio Del Toro is like a consultant, doesn't talk much, but you quickly find him as the ruthless guy in the room and on the same page as Matt is.
For legal purpose, they take Kate (E.Blunt), who's the head of a tactic response team and play by the book, in there crew, everything which will happen then, will hurt her of course.
Let say E.Blunt is perfect as a lost but strong women on the field, because of her training and what she already did as a cop, (the first 15 min of the movie, ouch!!), she can handle everything even when Alejandro shoot her only to reach his goal, the man had never been so close to the finish line and no one can stop him, but for her, still, it's not the right way and want to stop all of this until Matt explain what those Cartel's guys did. at the end, it's a eye for eye, Talion's law kind of story.
You've already seen this? yeah, me too, but
all the cast as everybody involved in this movie were brilliant.
a must see
Spectre (2015)
a summit of disappointment
i've always says D.Craig was the best bond after Sir S.Connery, all Bond with Craig were great, the car chase intro in the tunnel ending with Mr White in the trunk (Quantum of Solace) made me think yeah he's back.
i've had high expectations for Spectre, the trailer was good, so let's enjoy. it's nowhere close to a good bond, it's a roller-coaster of some good moment and some, not bad but blend without any appealing.
pros:D.Craig still great as bond, C.Waltz, will never thank enough Q.Tarentino for this great actor, they give Mr white (J.Chistensen) a excellent scene to get out of the franchise well deserved and brilliant:), M.Belluci, she's in for about 5 min but it's worth it
cons: L.Seydoux, she's a pain to watch as she was in MI-Ghost protocol, the whole story is a mess, then put Q, Tanner, M and Moneypenny on the field, why not, so, give them something to do, not just as follower in a car.
M hold a gun ''epic'', Q hacking the spy network, yep it's his job and really good at it, Moneypenny was a agent before and just play a green plant, Tanner is still Tanner...
i hope for Craig it was the last, he's a really good actor and deserve better than this to show his talent, for the others they don't need Bond as well, so can't wait to see them in something else
sorry this was a review for Spectre i completely forgot about it^^
