Locke & Key: Dissection (2020)
10/10 for intensity, 4/10 for writing
It was a very intense episode, full of action and suspense, and a little surprise in the end.
But it was poorly written, with characters making poor decisions, illogical decisions, which cause frustration to the viewers and overshadow the good action.
After 6 great episodes, it was a quite disappointing one.
I hope the next ones improve.
Arrow: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Four (2020)
Boring, cliche
They made a lot of effort in bringing past super heroes and characters from other shows to the crossover, but they forgot about the plot. The plot is ridiculous, boring, full of cliches and totally uninteresting.
So sad. I've waited so much for the crossover just to get this garbage of a story...
The Blacklist: The Forecaster (No. 163) (2017)
Such a dumb plot
Even if you hear a future plan (and come on - how many details of a murder plan would really get discussed over the phone?) - how can you create an exact diorama of a location you are not familiar with, how can you know the colors of the clothes which will be worn, how can you know where the victim's body will be, how can you know the surroundings, when you're just sitting at home?
And how can you have all the materials in advance to create such a future-seeing diorama? And how can a small child grasp such evil plots and portray themso quickly?
Really disappointing... an insult to the intelligence of the viewers.
The Spy: Alone in Damascus (2019)
Interesting but too cliche
The story is interesting. The acting is fine.
The settings are great and feel authentic from the 60's in the Middle East region.
But the story is too rushed and thus becomes cliche.
Unlike other Netflix series, there is not enough build up for the characters and events, things just move forward too quickly, so the plot feels too unreal and artificial.
But there are some very touching moments, like the eating of the butter sandwich scene, when we see the Eli and Nadya miss each other or when Dan remembers the previous agent he worked with.
Worth watching.
24: Live Another Day: Day 9: 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. (2014)
Too predictable, sorry
Yes, it's full of action, but the episode was way too predictable for me.
Also, I don't understand what's the point of the locking on the target, if the missile misses when the target moves :/ How can you hit a moving vehicle then?
Nice season, but this episode was not as good.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Wow!
A wonderful and amazing movie for all the fans.
So much emotions, so many nostalgic moments, and action, humor, drama! We get to see all the superheroes and some more loveable characters.
I feel sorry for those who try to find scientific logic in a movie about superheros. You really need to focus on what's important.
Just enjoy!
Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
A disappointing season
I loved the 1st season. The 2nd season was not as good, but still totally fine for my taste, but the 3rd season took a turn for the worst.
The actors were great - especially Millie Bobby Brown, but all are very good. Their characters are still beloved. The visual effects are great. So are the action scenes and the tension they produce.
But the writing is terrible. The fact that the show is about the 80's, doesn't mean that the plot has to be so naive as in the 80's - those plots worked for us back then, but now we are 3-4 decades later and we expect much more. The fact that the main protagonists are children, doesn't mean that the plot has to be childish. Season 1 proves that! So why on earth did they use so many silly jokes, so much extremely childish behavior, so many implausible, silly and over-simplified scenarios? Laziness? Lack of good ideas? Deliberately targeting younger audience? I really don't understand why the level of the plot became so silly. I mean, for a good story I could turn a blind eye here and there for implausible human behavior, but this time they went too far with that. Even if you are in a fantasy world, if the people are supposed to be normal according to the plot, they should behave normally and not like in cartoons or in kindergarten.
While I was eagerly awaiting season 3, now I simply don't want to see anymore seasons of Stranger Things. I'm afraid that they will spoil my past impression completely and make me forget about all the stuff I loved in the beginning of the series (I gave it a 9 after the 1st season).
The Gifted: calaMity (2019)
Excellent episode
Full of action, tension and thrill.
And the heartbreaking deaths...
So many plot lines have reached a high point...
I'm excited for the final episode.
The Following: Whips & Regret (2013)
Solid episode
A very tense and action packed episode.
Again the law enforcement people come out not that bright and frustrated, but this time they were acting quite reasonable.
The plot line with Claire, Carroll and Kyle is also interesting.
A gap is steadily growing between Carroll and Roderick and I wonder where it leads.
Arrow: The Demon (2018)
Solid episode, but not a 10
Sorry, but I don't think this episode deserves a 10. It wasn't perfect.
How can a woman be kept in a same cell block in prison with men? And not just regular prisoners, but the worst kind, the most dangerous, and a woman is roaming free among them? Come on...
I love Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak when she is humorous, arrogant, has snappy lines or when she is nervous. But she is a terrible actress when she needs to portray sadness, anger or anxiety. Her facial expression doesn't change, her intonation becomes high pitched, but weird and unconvincing. And for some reason, this season they keep making her try to portray the emotions which she is bad at portraying them. I just don't like most of her appearances this season.
Other than that, it was a good, action packed and dramatic episode, so I gave it an 8.
The Gifted: outMatched (2018)
Excellent episode
I don't understand the low scores given to the episodes and to the 2nd season.
I find the 2nd season very interesting, even captivating, and except for the boring chapter 2, all episodes had action, tension, drama and were really interesting. Sure, the story develops slowly, but in an interesting way, and I prefer this kind of story-telling to the quick developing plot of shows such as Arrow or the Flash (though I like them too).
Perhaps the series is less interesting for the younger audience? Perhaps it's more suiting older people who love x-men/supernatural heroes stories?
Or perhaps the fact that I didn't read the comics, so I watch the series with an open mind, allows me to enjoy it?
Anyway, I found this episode great, the best this season, with a lot of dramatic events, including a long awaited meeting between the Strucker siblings.
Loved it.
Lucifer: What Would Lucifer Do? (2017)
Weak episode
I love the show, but this was a very weak episode, with a weak and uninteresting plot. Lucifer's behavior is stupid and with no story-logic. And yes, it's a fictional series about the devil, but teaching kids to sell drugs? And Decker is just slightly bothered? Really?
Amenadiel was portrayed as a clown. No Maze, no Trixi, no Linda.
And Tom Welling simply can't act. I really don't understand why he was brought to the show, with such a stupid character, with a single constant facial expression and stupid lines. I miss Tricia Helfer...
Voyna i mir (1965)
Very boring
I watched the film in Russian, as I'm a Russian speaker.
The film focuses less on the characters and the people, and mostly focuses on patriotic issues, such as showing how Napoleon and the French are cruel, showing how the Russians are brave and how they protect their motherland and "sacred Moscow".
The story telling is very outdated. There are jumps within the story between scenes. Scenes with potential emotions and empathy are cut short, just when they get interesting, and sometimes the narrator just tells you what happened instead of showing it. You can count the emotional scenes on 1 hand. You just can't get any connection to the characters.
The battle scenes are impressive, with many participants and extras, and are done in a very large scale. But they are too long and tiring. After you get impressed from the first minutes, you just get bored and wait for the lengthy scenes to finish.
The too long and outdated effects and the lengthy many philosophical texts also do not contribute to the viewing experience.
And add to everything the length of these film-series...
I was very disappointed, after having high expectations due to the good reviews on IMDB.
Recently I watched a much newer version made by BBC. It was much much better and interesting - it captured all the key moments and developments, but added a lot of emotion and empathy to them.
