The Guilty (2021)
Gyllenhaal at his best.
If you are a fan of Gyllenhaal this film is a must see.
Is a very hard role, because its a solo movie, you will watch 1.30 min of a dramatic face and dialog from Gyllenhaal. Apart from him, I can only imagine Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey, Tom hardy, and Christian Bale in this role, maybe some others.
The guionist Nic Pizzolato, most known for his work in True detective, did a good work on this one because he achieved to keep the tension, with just a single actor and a phone.
The only counter is a personal dislike for movies were the main character, finds his redemption through the legal system, because it shows a lack of inteligencce, creativity and mental weaknes, that makes the role very stupid.
Entering Red (2019)
A masterpiecce
Ana de Armas is gorgeous in this short. The dialogue is made by the looking of the actors, there is not needed to add more lines.
The photography is all combined with red it creates a cool atmosphere, such a beauty, this short is a masterpiece.
The Outsider (2018)
You can feel deep inside the Yakuza culture
The film prioritize to show the Yakuza culture and they make a good work in showing it from an inside, almost an anthropological view, rather than an external Hollywood one.
The performance of Jared Leto its outstanding, and all the Yakuzas too, I guess they were real Yakuzas used in the film.
I would had wanted to see more of Nick ( main actor) background, for example how did he began in a Japanese prison?. Of course it was not the main focus of the movie, but still I think it would fill a bit more the history line.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
If you wan to see shootout then choose a western.
Unfortunately Keanu Reeves, and all the other awesome actors cant save this film. The reason is simple, there is no art in watching a movie with 30 % of the time with scenes of shootout with automatic guns, if you wanna find this lost art, at least choose a western.
Cobra Kai: No Mercy (2019)
All make sense at the end and a lot to think
This episode was insane, all the tension of both dojos (of Daniel and Johnny) came released, and its a photograph of the consequences when you cant overcome the wining and loser culture that permeates both sensei and students ( In words of Miguel is not anything more than wining in live?).
I cant think in a better way to finish this season 2. It already gives you some clues of season 3. You will have many things to think and imagine about after it arrives, cause it is not a linear serie. Dont be grumpy if you feel cliffhanged, just follow the last lesson of Johnny, use your head!.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Walking dead likes shadows in the night
The episode has many blurry scenes cause of the frozen wind , then night, and the zombies that appear like shadows destroying everything more like a walking dead in itself. So half of the episode its just blurry scenes, what a waste.
Every epic war should have a tactical combat, and a plan, but this was more like hordes of armies fighting in a chaotic way, this was also another epic failure.
I give it a 7 maybe it just deserve a 5.
Mi obra maestra (2018)
An elegant realistic tragicomedy
After sawing a couple of movies form the same director, I knew I was going to enjoyed this movie. The smart script and performances will transport you deeply into it. It will not only make you laugh and cry, furthermore you will think about the irony that is between the lines. Is not needed to be an Argentinian to understand the sarcasm, the main argument and criticism of the film is inherent in the visual arts world.
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
2 Slow and Disney style
Was very boring cause it was a very slow episode with a Disneyland script style, with a romantic trip with dragons, the kisses from the Queen and King, and a princess rescue. The poor performances of all, with no exception make it even worst the episode.
.
The Siege of Jadotville (2016)
Its hard to believe that its based in real facts
After watching this film, its very unreal (after a week of combat between 150 virgin Irish soldiers against 2000 experienced mercenaries, not a single Irish soldier died! what are they superheroes?! ) in despite that the film its supposed to be based in real facts, the combat that was shown in the film is hard to believe.
The pride of a nationalist Irish spirit is not hidden, and at least some hidden facts of UN army intervention in Congo was shown.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Conan savior of England
When a bbc produce an historical drama series where it shows a barbarian like Conan as a savior of England, its a must see.
La catedral del mar (2018)
A midle age novel, brutal and beauty.
I didn't expected much from this series, but since the first chapter I was completely surprised, the script couldn't be better it shows a captivating tragic and beautiful history in a brutal medieval era of Barcelona in the 14 century.
The historical facts, the shooting locations and good acting make it a must see specially if you like medieval times.
Stalnaya babochka (2012)
Nice , but could be much better.
I enjoy the film, the script and the performance of Darya Melnikova, as a bad ass street teenager is well developed. However the plot could have been more powerful with some shootings of her difficult childhood.
It also needed more focus on the serial killer profile and live, there is nothing about his personality, and explanation on kills.
Bitva za Sevastopol (2015)
Awsome 10/10
This movie have became one of my favorites 2 war films that I have seen so far.
It combines a personal biographical history, of the most successful female sniper during World War II (309) Kills. The movie also shows the diplomatic battle in USA for bringing the involvement of USA in 2 war.
In one of the scenes that actually happens in Chicago 1942, she stood before large crowds, with this phrase:
"Gentlemen, I am 25 years old and I have killed 309 fascist invaders by now. Don't you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back for too long?".
The script, performances, locations and shooting is just awesome, it makes you feel inside the eyes of Lyudmila Pavlichenko.
Im surprised it has just a 7 at IMBD , maybe its because Americans doesn't like to be reminded that they were hiding from 2 world war for 2 years.
Agujero Negro (2018)
Alpha (2018)
Epic Survival
In despite of the exaggerated fantasy of the first shot (when the buffalo fights back very smart ) the rest of the movie is well made. If you enjoy survival histories and the classic wolf and men friendship, you will really enjoy it.
Aquaman (2018)
Hollywood superheros crisis
This move is clear a prove that Hollywood superheros movies are in deep crisis. Is like there are no more fresh ideas so in this film they stole the main argument of King Arthur legend. They put some flying robots like iron man, and some kind of star wars troopers too. The main big monster was like a Godzilla, inserted in a scenario of return to the Center of Earth. It is totally ridiculous to see all this combination on this film, but at least its fun.
Sara (1997)
Timeless beauty
I cant ask for more, you will be submerged in this movie. The performance of Agnieszka Wlodarczyk is pure magic and Boguslaw Linda played it well too.
Godless (2017)
Totally Submerged
The superb photography, script, music and outstanding performances will make enjoy and get deeply into this western history.
The Nun (2018)
Awsome location with good Farmiga performance
The Location cant be better , the abbady helps to create the atmosphere, and its perfect match for the history, it keeps you trapped.
Farmiga performance is awsome, her role is pretty smooth and natural, however, Bichir performace lacks of surprise, it just didnt like me.
And the Frenchi role, screwed parts of the film cause its more close for a city guy rather than a rural farmer in a weird land.
