The Last of Us: When You're Lost in the Darkness (2023)
Haven't played the game, but this looks promising
Like I've stated in the title. I haven't played the game. Maybe one day if it comes to PC.
With that said, it's obvious I know nothing about the plot/characters/details except the general setting:
Fungus destroys world, makes man go zombie and brrrr.
Overall the first episode is great. The characters are thought out, their motivations; the suspense, tragedy, drama...all accounted for.
It packs a bit of action, and the CGI looks good, so no complains there. Acting is on point. Don't know why, but Pedro Pascal has this "Broken man" vibe all over him. I guess he's suited to play such characters.
Immersion: Also on point. The set design really does give a post-apocalyptic feel. Both on the small front (small community, like in TWD), and the larger one (the world).
I hope there is character development, and that it's not rushed. I hope it has a good ending, although I will settle for a bad one as well (kinda can see this thing ending tragically, but with a silver lining).
If the series continues to exist in such a great state, AND the characters don't become low IQ morons with moronic decisions, to force tragedy/advance plot, then this show is shaping to be one of the better zombie genre in history.
Major Payne (1995)
Say what you want, this is a cult classic
One of the best comedies of all time, hands down.
It's lighthearted and quite enjoyable to watch. There are some deeper scenes (like the PTSD little engine that could), but are overlapped by the right does of comedy.
The acting from the major is on spot, and the kids are all right as well. A family comedy that will definitely stand the test of time. Definitely something to come back to from time to time, especially since there are plenty of free streams online.
Well, I need at least 600 characters, so I guess I'll just keep you reading, I am sorry about that. I truly am. Don't know why we have to pretend we are writing an essay on the fall of the Berlin wall, but it is what it is. 600 characters it is.
Resident Evil (2022)
Extremely bad
First of all, I never played the games nor do I intend to. I dont care about staying true to the material so I'll only review what I've seen.
Tl:dr extremely bad and boring
Script: weak, uninspired, cliche. Dont know how anyone read it and thought "you know what, this is great.
Directing: maybe the script on the paper looked good, but its realization is poor. The dialogue is silly, directing and editing is horrible.
Acting: only weak points were the 14yo girls. The young sisters couldnt act if their life dependent on it. Rest is fine.
Production quality: High school level
Story: non-existent
Overall: 2/10. The jumping back and forth makes no sense, the story is badly written and executed, the younger versions couldnt act. Why on God's green Earth would you put such teen drama inside a zombie story? Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Realistic, albeit grimly so
I think. I do think that the satire is more realistic than at first glance. Extinction level event that is downplayed by human nature. You can be staring death in the eye and yet be convinced by somebody in illusory "power" that all is well. It's all too human.
I especially liked the fact that there is power in regular, normal people, who acutally have the only power needed. *SPOILER ALERT IN NEXT SENTENCE* << Scene where the people run out when they realize that the BASH mission has failed >>. People work for a certain individual, follow orders contrary to their own instincts. Loss of individuality.
That's really it. A great movie that tells the tale of a grim reality.
The Witcher (2019)
Season 2 is improved greately over season 1
Season one was watchable, especially if you knew the content/story. However, with the narration jumps and child-like dilemmas, often times it looked as it was made for a younger audience.
Season 2 is miles ahead. Each episode has a beginning and and end and the middle is filled with monsters, moral arguments and the likes. Acting is much better.
Season 1: 6/10
Season 2: 10/10.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
A different, but still poorly directed and written film
The film is better than the "original" in pretty much every way, but only so much to bump the rating from the absolute "1" to the current "5".
A lot of pointless slow-motion scenes that serve no other purpose than to force some emotions and a forced dialogue that propagates the story without any reason to. If you are a fan of comic books and superheroes, then this film will probably please you. For the non-comics out there, this movie is a waste of time.
