an absolute waste of a classic sci-fi
17 July 2005
It's disturbing that the amount of money spent in making this film could do no better than this. I will agree that the special effects were beyond that which you may see in any other movie.... but at what cost!? The plot and dialog in this movie completely destroy the masterpiece of H.G. Wells. All I really took away from this movie was a headache from watching people run around screaming. I was quite happy to see Cruise fail this one after making himself look like such a pompous fool in recent events, but it was sad to see Dakota Fanning be placed in a role that did so little for the credibility of such a talented actress. Watching this movie was truly a waste of my time. I would recommend the original movie any day before this. Even better than both would be to go to the library, read the book and save $10 admission.

A Will Ferrell Classic
7 June 2005
If you are a die-hard Will Ferrell fan, as I am, then you will love this movie. If you aren't, then my advice is to stay away. You won't be getting the type of humor you may be expecting such as Will Ferrell gave us in Old School. It is meant to be a much more dry humor. Will Ferrell is a master at character adaptation but this movie is definitely for fans only. Most of my friends hated it but I still added it to my home collection. If you want to get the most out of it, then I would watch it alone so that any nay-sayers won't distract you from Will Ferrell's antics. I do have to admit, however, that I hated Christa Applegate's character. They could have done much better on finding someone to fill that character.

Great boxing movie
7 June 2005
This is one of the few great boxing movies out there. The fighting actually looks as if it could be in a real ring as apposed to many of those other fight flix out there. Meg Ryan is still absolutely gorgeous at her age and pulls of the role wonderfully. This is a movie that you will be able to watch several times and still get some enjoyment out of it. I love the fact that although this could be considered a "girl-power" type of movie that it appeals to the male crowd and does not come across as man-bashing. I had to purchase this movie as soon as it came out because it got me pumped to go out and try for anything. This movie has slight humorous undertones, however, in my opinion it will appeal much more to a crowd that is seeking a drama. A must see!

#1 comedy of all time
15 April 2005
This is the ultimately guy comedy of all time. I'll be quoting this movie until i'm 80 years old. The plot is original and hilarious and you can watch it from front to back 10 times in a row and still laugh every time. I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan and he doesn't disappoint. As Frank "the tank" he manages to be one of the funniest characters in movie history. This is a movie that most guys can relate to. If you've ever wanted to get back to the days of partying and girls, yet are stuck in the boredom of everyday life, then this movie will have you rolling around. Hecks, i'm even contemplating starting up my own fraternity. I can only hope that there will be a sequel to this one. I'll be the first in line to see it when it opens.

not quite a Get Shorty
15 April 2005
The movie was definitely not a worthy sequel to Get Shorty. However it did manage to be entertaining and contain a decent plot. Anyone hoping to see a decent performance out of John Travolta will be sorely disappointed. Uma was hotter than ever in it. Fans of Vince Vaughn will love it. He stole the show. His character, Raji, provided the majority of the laugh-out-loud scenes contained in the dialog. Either way, it was definitely entertaining but you might want to wait for it to come out on video. There were way to many not-so-subtle jokes aimed at the movie that should have been left out.... such as John Travolta's comment that sequels suck.... I'd watch it again only if someone else rented it...
