Leave the World Behind (2023)
Horrible...dont waste your time
Was expecting some serious scares but the only really scary part was the acting. Whatever was about to befall the characters couldnt have happened quick enough.... especially Julia Roberts.....2 hours wasted. The daughter was creepy and wasnt really supposed to be, I just honestly didnt care what happened to them, especially the most out of place dance scene between Roberts character and the owner of the AirBnb. I guess this is a good movie for Netflix but I would have asked for my money back had I seen it at a theatre. Theatres, what a relic of the past, they used to be an integral part of society but oh, how times have changed!
The Last Duel (2021)
I love Matt Damon but......
He is no Russell Crowe.... He just didnt sound like he was from that era and his mullet wasnt getting it. I just didnt care about the characters.
The cinematography had that almost black and white tint which is supposed to make it medievil.
Zontar: The Thing from Venus (1967)
Only full frontal nudity could have saved this
The women in the movie that is. Looks like it cost about $1000 to make...was only watching it until football came on. 8o)
Geostorm (2017)
Not what the trailers promised
I had been waiting for this movie since the first trailer I saw early in the year. I have to be honest in that I walked out before the end as I had seen it (a similar ending) 1000 times before in other movies. And I didn't care enough about the story or characters to stick around. The ending is just ridiculous in the same mold as Gravity and Passengers. I like Sci-Fi as much as anyone but not when it gets too impossible to even kind of believe it then I can't take it. I have to have some thread of reality to cling to.****Spoiler Alert**** At the end when the space station is disintegrating and millions of little parts are blasting all over the vicinity the 2 space walkers are just bouncing along hard into sharp type objects and somehow avoiding said millions of pieces of shrapnel any one of which would have ended their joyous space waltz forever......couldn't take......oh well......."He made a promise" gimme a break! other spfx were well done....not the end
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
If it wasn't for the CGI it would be worthless
The main problem I had with this movie that I saw in 3-D was the fact I could care less about the 2 main characters. The male lead looked like a space age 16 year old Harry Potter without the magic and I really disliked the female lead....just didn't care if they lived or died. The special effects were good but couldn't carry the 2+ hour film. Oh well you lose some and you win some but overall I feel like it was more of a loss than a win...............I'd put it right there with "Passengers".....
The Lost City of Z (2016)
Good but kind of a snoozer
I thought it was a good movie and was well done....just a little slower than I was hoping.....a few action, exciting moments but a lot of time to doze off too! Probably better on DVD than in the theater. The scenes involving the natives in the jungle were exciting but the scenes back in England were slow. Still interesting.
Passengers (2016)
Great movie until
I was totally into this movie from the actors to the special effects to the story. It really makes you think on what you would do if you were faced with a similar situation. The thing I didn't like and had me rolling my eyes and thinking about the disaster that "Gravity" was (spoiler alert)occurred at the end of the movie when certain person is drifting outside the space station (unsecured)in a spacesuit and certain other person goes outside in a spacesuit on a tether and manages to grab the other astronaut......I mean c'mon they are doing half the speed of light and yet they are out there drifting around.......totally absurd....the rest of it could be plausible but then they insult the whole story with the ending sequence.....oh well, such is Hollywood....still worth seeing for sure!
Life (2017)
Save your money and see Geostorm (when it comes out) instead
It is a cross between Alien and Little Shop of Horrors.....if I was choosing astronauts for this mission I might have kept 1 or 2 of the current characters but would have swapped out the rest for people who had intelligence and some kind of common sense. The only part that surprised me occurred too late to save this over hyped flick. At least I saw it on matinée and it only cost $8.50
Eye in the Sky (2015)
Fire! Fire! Fire!
That is all I kept screaming. I'm too old to be in the service now but I should have enlisted in the drone service. All the hand wringing was too much for me. Should have fired and asked/answered questions later!!!!! There was no doubt that war is full of hard decisions but still. To risk 80-100 lives in order to save one to me is not even debatable. The actors all did fine jobs portraying the points of view being considered and finally they made the right decision. I was really surprised/impressed to see Helen Mirren playing a role not related to a monarch or other somewhat drippy roles she has done in her past. Really was a good acting job......
Buried (2010)
Not really impressed
It was an interesting movie but really really hard to believe.....Spoiler Alert....Save 90 minutes of your life and skip this one. It was rated R but there was little material to be R rated, except for some mental duress when imagining yourself in his situation. I knew the snake wasn't a rattler from the second I saw it. Plus hard to imagine the oxygen holding out as long as it did......the minimalist angle is something to appreciate I guess....it probably didn't cost 100,000 to make when not counting the star(s) salary.....I was hoping for at least a glimpse of the outside world but it never happened, I guess to really drive home the isolation he felt.....
Alaska Monsters (2014)
Another moronic effort at entertainment!
This show is a cheap carbon copy of Mountain Monsters which people might think is quality journalism compared to Alaska Monsters. Swamp Monsters is another stupid cookie cutter "reality show". If these shows actually reflect any kind of reality then I would rather just do hydrocodone and drink beer as opposed to living in their reality. I always liked "Finding Bigfoot" as I have always been interested in bigfoot ever since seeing "The Legend of Boggy Creek" and the Patterson-Gimlin footage in the early 70's but FB is getting kind of old too. If they could just find a skeleton or carcass or something it would at least lend some credence to the whole genre. The copycats just have to stop producing these lame attempts at entertainment.
Mountain Monsters (2013)
Where to begin????
I am somewhat embarrassed to admit to having seen every episode of this series, but wonder why after every episode is over. These goof-balls couldn't catch a cold in a germ factory. It is kind of funny but is getting old after 2 seasons. To the one commenter who was "impressed" with the fact Wild Bill was a marine, all I can say is Wild Bill is an inbred idiot. If he got into the marines they must take anyone with a pulse. Running around screaming in the supposed dark, carrying loaded weapons, is insane and against all "hunting" practices. If they were serious they would bait their weird traps and sit quietly (hiding their scents, yeah right)and wait for something to come and eat the bait. No creature would stop to eat with a bunch of crazed yahoos running around screaming and/or driving four wheelers with lights no less. Terrible show but I will keep the DVR set out of desperation I guess.....they will never, ever, catch anything in their traps....except maybe Wild Bill.
