28 Weeks Later (2007)
Great sequel, well thought out.
I wasn't a big fan of the original film. When I watched it in the cinema the first time, other than the superb London deserted scenes, I found most of it laughable.
I did change my mind a bit after a couple more viewings but still didn't think that much of it.
When I saw a sequel was coming and it involved the US army, Hollywood sell-out were my first thoughts.
having just come from watching it, I stand corrected.
Brilliantly darkly shot, and all with good reason. Emotion and intensity are much more important to this movie than your average horror.
The scene in the underground, whilst seeing almost nothing, is one of the scariest scenes I've seen in a long time.
I don't want to mention to much more about the plot, as so much of it would give away important aspects of the story.
Hostel (2005)
Real Hostel's are much scarier than this celluloid turd.
Went to see Hostel on Saturday with my girlfriend. Neither of us were bothered by the n nudity that seems to be upsetting a lot of people. What we were bothered about was the fact that it was so bad. The sentence I uttered at the end, was the same exact sentence I uttered at the end of Cabin Fever. "What was the point of that?" The first half does drag on a little bit, but it was far more enjoyable than the ridiculousness of the second half. I imagined that the first half was supposedly grounding us in the characters so that the later scenes were more emotive. But we really learnt nothing about them, they easily could've been lifted from any teen road movie. There were some yuck moments, but the idea of what was being done was far stronger than the dodgy effects they employed. Badly plotted (if you can say there was a plot) poorly written, directed and acted. What Tarantino wants to put his name on this for, I don't know. and why Miike Takeshi was willing to be in it too, surprised me. This film really wants to be shocking and confrontational, but fails on every level, the trailer and press on this film is misleading, it's just crap. Very much one to avoid.
The Search for One-eye Jimmy (1994)
Why did this happen?
Saw this a couple of weeks ago, my friend bought the DVD for one pound. This is overpriced for this movie.
There must be a story behind the reason so many talented actors agreed to be in this, but still can't believe they did it.
It is so poorly shot, the acting in general is atrocious, even from the majority of the talented guys as the dialogue is so bad.
It is embarrassing to watch them put through it. If I'd made this a college, I wouldn't have expected to pass.
It is really difficult to pass this by with the cast involved, but you really will regret it if you do sit and watch it.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
Dodge the movie, not just the balls.
A little harsh perhaps, I didn't really hate Dodgeball, I even chuckled a few times. I just found it be a very average movie. I wasn't expecting brain science or rocket surgery, believe me. I had been expecting a roller-coaster of belly laughs though, not a few chuckles.
Ben Stiller is very good as the ridiculous Globo gym owner.
Everyone else is just dodging balls. Even the cameos raise little more than a smile.
A number of people think this is the funniest movie of the year.
Shaun of the Dead is leagues above this in my opinion.
