Fiendishly good family fun!
20 October 2018
My kids and I were pleasantly surprised by the first Goosebumps movie, and although this sequel is quite slow to start, it's a whole lot of fun! My kids loved seeing the Halloween decorations coming to life (especially that balloon spider and cgi seemlessly blended with practical effects) and the cinema was full of kids laughing out loud at certain parts. Fans of Jack Black's R.L Stine character may be disappointed, but Slappy being the main protagonist more than makes up for the lack of Stine. The acting is fine for purpose, no Oscar worthy performances here, but the 3 main characters (Sarah, her brother and his friend) are likeable enough. So while Goosebumps 2 is not exactly making ground-breaking cinematic history, given some of the rubbish kids movies I've seen this year ('Monster Family' anyone?!) it's certainly one of the more entertaining ones. Kids aged 10 and under will love it, 8/10.

Bleak. Grim. But necessary.

Although it makes for uncomfortable viewing, The Stanford Prison Experiment is a story that needs to be told. The actors playing the guards are fantastic- you really love to hate them! Not a feel good movie but an interesting social commentary on the influence of authority and power, worth a watch if that's your kind of thing.

Quirky, cutesy movie, but nothing new

Auggie is a brilliant character, and kudos to the actor who played the lovable rogue so well. Totally out-shines the bigger stars (Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson) when Auggie is on the screen he just captivates you and makes you smile. Really enjoyed the story but wouldn't say it offers anything out of the ordinary. I haven't read the book either so I can't compare. Worth a watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and it's a film that will perk you up and make you feel good- there is still 'wonder' in the world after all.

this movie took me out of my comfort zone....

Warning: Spoilers
...and strangely enough, I kinda liked it! It's an Interesting concept for a movie and the premise had me hooked from the get go- how would things change if we were cured of blindness in our adulthood? Even though the characters of Gina and James were both flawed to some extent, there was something catharic about watching their relationship fall apart. Watching Gina slowly discover who she is and realising that James may not be for her was compelling viewing. And I felt the tension conveyed throughout the movie when James' character starts to connect the dots about Gina's lies really made me feel tense while I was watching. The uncomfortable eye contact between both Gina and James at the music concert made me feel sad, uncomfortable, and like I was intruding in a really private moment, so kudos to the actors and director for that. The ending just seemed a bit rubbish though, as if they just rushed writing the end of the script and ran out of ideas. Not a feel good movie and certainly not a 'romantic comedy' as Netflix claims, but still worth a watch.

Beyond suspension of belief

What do the filmmakers take us for? Why are we expected to believe that this story is in any way relatable to reality? So many plot holes, ridiculous ending, just a waste of time really. Gave it a 2 star rating mainly because the actor playing the teacher is called 'Rusty Joiner' - it still cracks me up!!!

Abysmal.

I lasted 30 mins and then I decided that I didn't give a hoot about the characters and the 'choice' they have to make. Suprised to see Richard Gere associate himself with this drivel. As for Steve Coogan- stick to being Alan Partridge mate, your 'American' accent is awful. What a load of Self-indulgent, elitist nonsense- read the book, watch the Italian version- but avoid this one at all costs.

....says it all really!!! A crude, fun, gruesome, vulgar rollercoaster of a movie that I would definitely recommend to fans of obscure British horror. Just when you think you couldn't be shocked anymore, then comes the claymation scene, which was my favourite part! Bit of a disappointing ending, but the build up more than made up for that. Who would've thought that Paddy from Emmerdald had such a twisted sense of humour?! Well done to all those involved, will love to see what Joanne and Dominic come up with in the future.

...says it all really! Crazy, crude, grusome rollercoaster of a movie, not for the faint hearted that's for sure!! Quite enjoyed it though, especially the claymation scene which took me by suprise, just when I thought the film had suprised me enough already!!! Bit of a disappointing ending but then I didn't really want it to end. I'd definitely recommend this to fans of obscure British horror movies- who would've thought that Paddy from Emmerdale had such a twisted sense of humour!
