One of the best older movies around
15 December 2012
This is one of my all time favorite older movies! The iconic portrayal of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly is as timeless and classic as it gets. The movie has a really good story reminiscent of Amelie. Holly is essentially a bachelorette living in NYC. The premise sounds boring and uninteresting but the underpinnings are what really make this film shine. Holly appears on the surface to have everything she needs in life and to be blissfully unaware of any sadness or ill feelings she may harbour, but in the final scene you can see that she really does have something missing in her life. Similar to Amelie, except the main character is much more extroverted, you're taking through the story of a women finally having the courage to admit defeat to her own true feelings. I highly recommend that anyone reading this watches this film. It is truly worthy of all the praise and recognition it has achieved throughout the ages.

The worst movie of all time
15 December 2012
This movie has no point to it, is confusing, and is extremely dull. It wouldn't be so bad if maybe it was a deep movie and made the viewers question what they've known. I was so completely unhappy with this movie that I didn't speak to the friend that recommended it to me for a few weeks, it was THAT bad. I thought they were playing a joke on me. Even if they had recommended the movie in good will because they genuinely liked it, I wouldn't have spoken to them for fear of cussing them out for wasting my time and for being a total tool. As far as I could see, this movie has absolutely nothing going for it, save for maybe being a good April fools joke to play on your friends or enemies when you say it's the best movie you've ever seen.

Dollhouse (2009–2010)
10/10
Why was this canceled!?
15 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start out by saying that I don't really like most TV shows and was looking for something a bit different when I found this on online. Frankly I'm not surprised that one of the few TV shows I liked is cancelled. Dollhouse is such an intriguing series that brings up quite a few questions about humans, what is humane, and what being a human means. This series to me draws on life and being able to make free choices. Someone else wrote a review stating this series reminded them of Stepford Wives and I completely agree with them. There is an eerie and off balance feeling that the Dolls give off. Whether they realize something is wrong, whether they care, or whether they even have the capacity to care, is inconclusive.

**** SPOILER BELOW **** You do get brief glimpses of the dolls trying to break through their general stupor and remember what their lives as humans used to be, but there's still some confusion I think about whether or not it's really over. The episode where they are "set free" to prevent future glitches definitely put a diabolical and hopeless spin on the whole situation. **** SPOILER ABOVE ****

I think this is one of the best shows that used to be on TV and am infuriated that it was canceled. I hope something similar to it with the right amount of mystery and intrigue comes along, and soon.

Elfen Lied (2004)
4/10
Awesome opening, great eerie atmosphere, intense gore, not for the faint of heart
15 December 2012
I liked this series to extent. I don't mind gore as long as it's being used to convey a deeper message. This series does not offer that. Elfen Lied is essentially one big gore fest with people dieing left and right and no real psychological analysis of the characters taking place. This series could have really gone deeper by maybe exploring the issues surrounding the Diclonii or the differences between them and normal humans, but it really only consisted of one emotion, anger. I'd rather spend my time watching something a little more light hearted and with a little more dimension than Elfen Lied. If you've watched this and agree I'd suggest checking out Higurashi.

When They Cry (2006)
7/10
Creepy, disturbing, and mysterious
15 December 2012
This series was so immensely pleasurable to watch. It's a horrific and slightly sadistic series that leaves you constantly guessing what's really going on in this small haunting rural village. I must admit though that I couldn't bring myself to complete it. Not because I was scared or anything, but because the explanations for why things were happening were unfolding and I didn't like it. I was hooked on the series from the beginning to around the last few episodes simply because I never really knew why things were happening the way they were. I was blissfully confused and baffled throughout the whole series, and the final episodes were like getting smacked upside the head with the facts of all the episodes previously. From what I've read though, those final episodes didn't explain everything all the way anyway, so maybe its worth watching. For me personally though, I felt that explaining the mysteries of the village the series takes place in took away from the overall appeal. If you love mysteries and creepy moe characters and can handle some gore, I highly recommend that you at least watch the first few episodes. If you aren't completely hooked then I'd say leave the series alone and watch something you'd find more fulfilling.

Oh and by the way, for those comparing to Elfen Lied, this series is tens times better and creepier as opposed to being composed of pure gore.

Paprika (2006)

Vivid, astounding, and dreamlike (no pun)
15 December 2012
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm not really one to understand symbolism and I don't do too well with confusing story lines, but this movie is a definite exception. I'm still not sure exactly what the point of the story was, but I have an idea of what the purpose of the movie itself is, if that makes sense. This movie isn't to be watched or dissected or understood even, it's to be felt and lived. Sounds strange for a movie, but that's really the best way I can describe it. Trying to understand every little detail and why things happened will most likely drive you mad. After watching the first time, I gave up on trying to understand anything. I guess a good analogy to it would be the movie Fantasia. It doesn't make sense some times, but it's really good if you're able to lose yourself in it. If you have a very vivid imagination and are able to really dive into a film, I highly highly HIGHLY recommend that you experience this movie.

Feels like tripping on acid

This is just one of those anime series that I think everyone should see at least once. Let's start with some negatives. The animation is awful, music is almost non existent, and there is essentially zero character development. Now for the positives. There are a lot of plot sequences and events that occur that make you question life and the meaning of the world. This series really stuck with me and although it's an animation, it truly deserves a deep philosophical study of the issues it brings up. The series made me question what a god is, whether this world is real or fake (in the vain of the Matrix, which by the way apparently is influenced by Lain), and what the future will hold. I'm probably way off on what this series was really about, but I think it's anybody's guess. I do know that you're meant to really question and think about things, more so than any other movie, TV series, or book has made me do. I wouldn't exactly call Lain exciting or fun to watch, but it is definitely thought provoking.

Simply the most stunning movie of all time.
15 December 2012
This movie has so much going for it, but I could understand some other reviewers disliking its intricate plot and lack of true horror. I might be angering a few die hard fans, but I don't consider this a horror movie in the slightest. This movie isn't meant to invoke solely fear, which most horror films amount to. Although this film has an eerie atmosphere and definitely some moments that make you cover your eyes, the underlying plot is much more than a cheap thriller. It's a film composed of an amazing soundtrack, amazing visuals, amazing plot, and amazing actors. The film can be a bit confusing, and I must admit that after watching for the first time, I wasn't completely smitten. But to be honest, I think that's just the way a movie like this is. After watching the second time, you see the movie more through Su-mi's eyes. It's incredibly sad and if you don't shed a single tear on first viewing, you'll be crying buckets the second, third, and yes even fourth, time. After the first viewing I was confused and angry. After the second viewing, the ending scene made me cry buckets. After the third viewing, just hearing the music at the beginning and watching Su-mi and Su-yeon get out of the car made me cry. The music is just so beautifully fitting for this movie! I wish I could give this a 100/10 it is in my opinion one of the best movies ever made. If you like to dissect films and really put yourself in others shoes and are able to feel empathy, then this movie is for you. But, if you like movies to jump out at you, scare you, or intrigue you, I think you'll be a bit disappointed. You really need to study this movie to understand its appeal.
