Borgen (2010)
pretty good but with poor character development
I find the series extremely good in expoising the day-to-day politics and its relation to media. These are topics very well explored thoughout all 3 seasons.
But the personal lives of the main characters are poorly developed and pretty much cliche. The series fail to balance between charecters' work life and personal affairs. I think it they focused instead solely on politics and media i'd have given it a 10, because it exceeds other series about politics on these themes.
El ministerio del tiempo: Entre dos tiempos (2017)
where they completely lost it
Since netflix starting putting their hands, it became clear how netflixish the series became: shallower characters, more "action" and shorter scenes.
but using lots of deus ex machina in one single episode ruined the series for me. in one moment going to the future is not easily made feasible, in the next scene they decide to go so the story can have a happy ending. terrible.
Master of None (2015)
Seinfeld in the 21st Century - with critique
Focused on one artist living in New York, hanging out with 3 other friends, no specific plot, a "show about nothing" (life itself as it goes on)... Does it ring any bell?
But the main character is of Indian ethnicity, his best female friend is a lesbian and each episode touches a point of social-cultural critique, be it the way minorities are dropped out of movies, questioning the marriage as an institution and so on.
Always light and ironic enough to be a comedy, but keeping the constant questioning about American values in the beginning of this 21st century - so it's also a drama.
If anyone wants to understand how's NY in 2010's in the future, this will be one of the best ways of doing so. Highly recommended!
