The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008)
I loved this show
I was excited to see this show initially because of Molly Ringwald, and looked forward to the premiere for several weeks. I was not one bit disappointed. Finally, another good 7th Heaven type show that deals with serious issues in a family friendly way. The young actors are all very good and believable, and although it is a little bit cheesy, I would prefer this show to Hannah Montana anyday. After the first episode when they showed the teaser for the upcoming season I was so excited to see more and wished I could buy the whole season right then! I can't wait to see what this show has in store and plan on recommending it to everyone!
The Curse of Lizzie Borden 2: Prom Night (2008)
For what it is...
This movie is NOT
Historically factual
A big budget slasher
A mind-altering psychological thriller
To be taken seriously
However, this movie IS
Funnier than it is scary
Predictable, yet true to it's B-movie slasher form
Full of over the top acting thanks to its over the top script
Enjoyable IF...
You take it for what its worth. Its a low budget film about LIZZIE BORDEN yet set in modern times. Don't be dogging on it...because honestly... when the plot for a film says that Lizzie Borden shows up at the prom, what do you expect??!!
Take it for what its worth, enjoy the hot girls, laugh at the extensive fake blood, have a drink or two, and enjoy it. Don't hate on low-budget slasher films. They are made with a lot of heart :)
Hotel (2001)
What the...
This is the absolute worst movie I have ever seen- ever. I can't even explain... the low budget camera shoots... the bad lighting... the plot that wasn't there...the characters that were nothing- it was horrific. Save yourself 2 hours of your life. The screen splits into 4 half the time-- with randomness in each with quality I could have shot with my 1987 home movie camera. Don't be pulled in because of the "big names" - whatever these actors were on when they decided to participate in this film is beyond me. You see Burt Reynolds for maybe five minutes, Lucy Lui maybe 20-- David Schwimmer is the main character but he looks like a homeless drunk. Please-- just don't. You'd thank me if you only knew!!
The St. Francisville Experiment (2000)
I Love this movie
Okay-- so it's a Saturday night... I'm grounded... so I rent this movie and watch it with my 13 year old brother. I had recently seen Blair Witch... which.. kind had me a little frightened ( I even watched it along in the dark) but nothing like the way this movie affected me. I was almost in tears, I was so scared. But I loved it... it was a fun kind of scary. My brother thought it was dumb and made fun of me for being so scared...but I don't know how it didn't even phase him. All in all... the movie is well made, very believable, and entertaining to watch. YES- it's very low budget ,YES- it has slow parts ( but it isn't such a big deal because once stuff gets going its quick and jumpy and you don't mind the in-between), and YES it may seem like a rip off of Blair Witch Project. So what? Watch this movie in a good mood with an open mind, and see what you think. It's worth a shot... make sure you have something to hold onto tho... just in case ;-)
Cursed (2005)
"Cursed" or is it "Charmed"...?? Yikes
Perhaps the genre of this movie should be reconsidered...because "horror" and "thriller" are the last two words I would use to describe Cursed. Perhaps, "Comedy" and "Spoof" might fit this flick a little better. Luckily I didn't go into this movie with too high of hopes to be on the edge of my seat, because this film fails miserably to even slightly frighten. I found myself and my friend, whom I practically had to beg to come with me, laughing rather hysterically at the movie- sometimes because it was just so cheesy and pathetic that we couldn't help but crack up...and sometimes because it was actually funny. Certain points in the film reminded me of some of the chick-flick favorites... She's All That was the one I kept thinking of, I'm not exactly sure why. There were several points where the story line suddenly became so extreme that we were almost positive it had to be a dream sequence...or at least not what it seemed...but oh no...bizarre as it was getting, it was still real... The graphics were lame, the "mutilization" of people was obviously edited in extreme to make the PG-13 rating...and well... even as the credits were rolling I was still giggling. It honestly reminded of the TV show "Charmed"... cheesy script... bad acting... humorous graphics... and off-the-wall explanations and a strange acceptance for all the bizarre happenings. I don't really like that show...
All in all... I didn't leave the movie wanting my money back because in all truth, I was entertained. It seems to me like the movie tried to succeed with the teen/horror category such as I Know What You Did Last Summer... but sadly to say it fell very short. If you go into the movie looking for a few cheap laughs, you might actually enjoy Cursed. But don't take a date hoping for an excuse to grab onto them... haha... I doubt my three year old brother would even be phased by the scare-tactics in this film!
The Village (2004)
The Village vs. Running Out of Time...?
As soon as I saw the movie, the first thing I thought of was the book a read about four years ago called Running Out Of Time. I noticed the extreme similarities in the plots and I wondered "can they do that?"... however I enjoyed the book and I also enjoyed the movie, so I let it slide. But today on the radio I heard that there is a possible law suit against Mr.Sham from the creators of this book! Was The Village a rip off of a young adult's novel?? Surely with how much success he has had with his previous movies Sham would never have... or would he?? I'd like to think not. Anyone who has read this book, please comment! I am interested to hear what everyone else has to say on this subject!
P.S. if you haven't read it, I recommend the book. It's quite good!!
