Shot Caller (2017)
Looks good, but no depth, stupid plot
Looks good acting is quite good. Direction good.
Looks like good kind of the thriller but it's let down by the script.
The plot just goes round in circles not making sense and the main lead character is just Illogical his actions and his motives. Tries to be clever and smooth, but is ultimately a ridiculous ending Without an inch of reality.
The guy has a chance to tell the police to bust the crime and he can get clean out and possibly get back with his family. Instead he decides to get caught with the crime himself just so he can get back into a prison for life without Parole to meet the leader of the gang who he can kill and then subsequently he becomes the leader. The reasoning of such a plan and the chances of such a plan actually working in any kind of reality is less from one percent.
The script Writer Trying to be clever but ultimately ending up looking very stupid.
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Brainless comic book entertainment
As a few have said, the lack of any plot makes this very uninteresting.
As for a brainless 2 hrs of mild comic book entertainment its ok, but thats mainly to Denzel's presence. But its not deeper than a paddling pool for toddlers.
People trying to kill each other with no reason given. Script writer or writers must been v lazy or just thought forget it, who cares about a plot, they'll watch it anyway. And sad thing is they are probably right.
The racist comic book villains were there at the first scene on that ridiculous train in Turkey which looked more like an Agatha Christie Oriental express train, than any realistic Turkish train. Unintended comedy in a forgetful film.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Beyond Boredom
The reviews are more entertaining than the film. Managed 1hr 30 before had to fast forward to the pointless ending. Script a 15 yr old could write, directing all over the place but going nowhere. Starts off like there is going to be some Action or drama or action or drama or suspense pan Fan never get to go and it just to prove I was around boring people moping around the house. Talking nonsense. At that stupid camera angles and stupid music that is meant to be scary and you have a compatibility pointless meaningless, mundane film. Not even an effort for some kind of ending. Shamelessly Talentless.
Netflix is Leaving All Talent Behind.
Reptile (2023)
Another Masterclass of Boredom by Netflix
Good cast, stupid lazy script, stupid directing.
With the cast & the trailer thought this might have some depth but no. A plot that is all over the place, and seeing Herc from The Wire look so out of touch in this plodding, predictable & boring film, made me think how I miss The Wire.
Netflix has really become the Macdonalds of the film/tv business. We are starving for more healthy productions but cannot see this happening anytime soon. Keep thinking about it but one day Im going to stop my subscription, cause its just getting tiresome to find something you like then watch it & realise it was not worth the bother.
Biz Kimden Kaçiyorduk Anne? (2023)
Pathetic, comical rubbish
What a waste of production. Another Netflix slick production with no slickness, no quality.
From the writing to the directing & acting, amateur. Bambi is called one of the characters, hotels that are one min packed, next as empty as the hotel in The Shining. And talking of that it been great if Jack Nicholson took an axe to the script which I am sure any 16 year old film students could done better with. Pathetic is to light a word for this absolute garbage, Just makes you think how and why
Plot has more holes than can be counted. Cartoons have had more depth and sense than this rambling pretentious piece of crap.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Not a shadow of the tv series
This film is like a comic, such a lazy, comical, predictable script, it was difficult to watch till the end.
The acting, directing are not much better. Like sone mish mash of a Bond / Marvel Comic / Shawshank Redemption mess of a film
Luther tv series esp first season was gritty, original and exciting. This is none of the above.
Very disappointing Makes you wonder how such films get made, it must be more who you know rather than what you know.
Netflix Percentage of quality films made must be 10% or lower, They really need to invest in Internet writers or better producers who can spot good writing But I fear they will continue to work on what they think it's gonna be successful.
Shichinin no samurai (1954)
This is cinema
Decades ahead of its time, this is cinema, this is Art.
Watched the brilliant Magnificent Seven first, and only years later watched this, the original masterpiece.
Kurosawa was a genius.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Hype hype hype....
After the relentless hype, gave it a try but after one episode got bored.
Its production is stylish, well acted but the premise is too unrealistic, ok even if you buy the fact that somehow a group can organise such murderous games, if it had an ounce of realism, after the massacre of the first game, 90% of the survivors would be too shocked and ptsd to talk never mind vote onto whether continue or not, and then ofc the vote is dead heat and down to last vote. Poor poor writing.
Gave up end of 2nd episode.
Just shows world we live in now, hype over quality.
Hala (2019)
Underwhelming
Started off well, with an original premise, a skateboarding intelligent hijabi muslim girl but then went wayward, too slow and disappointing.
Too many contrived scenes and very negative representation of Islam, with the last scene, something Fox News or Daily Mail would be proud of.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Gave up after trying to watch it on second attempt
I managed 35mins before I gave up
What a huge disappointment, I know sequels are usually not good but this is beyond bad.
The original and Trading Places are Murphy comedy gold. This is a lame duck, Eddie next time hire better writers
Efterforskningen (2020)
Gripping, tragic and heart warming real life story
To not mention the murderer at all, was a masterstroke and so refreshing compared to so many criminal dramas which focus on the criminals too much.
Fact that this is a recent true story, makes the whole thing gripping.
Excellently paced, great acting and writing, and educational.
Capharnaüm (2018)
Beautifully refreshing
Extraordinary acting and a wonderful original film, which takes on a subject so few have.
Tenet (2020)
Nolan worst film to date
Poor acting terrible script and a plot that literally makes zero sense
A film that treats time travel as if it is remotely realistic.
It isn't and as have many pointed out, Nolan trying too hard to be clever, again
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Dribble
When you base a film on just 2 actors, one location and one night, the script and actors need to be very good.
And here none are. The script is pretentious without having an ounce of quality and the actors cannot do anything to make it better. Washington is not half the actor his father is and Zendaya is only little better, but you cannot blame them too much as they have such poor material to work with.
The director/writer needs to go back to film school
Best thing about the film is the music
Another netflix piece of expensive looking rubbish
Bir Baskadir (2020)
Original but too long and too keen to be clever
Started off well, good acting direction and original settings but proved to be predictable mostly and too stretched out, could have been done in 5 episodes not 8.
Also so relentlessly gloomy. Trust me Istanbul is not full of misery as this series suggests.
The direction is influenced by Nuri B Ceylan with the beautiful set up still scenes but like Ceylan it suffers from over long scenes.
Overall good show great acting but too many contrived scenes, too many coincidences to help move the plots rather than character driven.
Better than most netflix but a long way from being a masterpiece
Let It Snow (2019)
Did bots write the script
The trailer brought me to it and I thought it would not be great but maybe good, passable film.
I was very wrong. It literally felt like robots wrote the script from a formula they use that is meant to create a audience inducing script.
Train breaks down so just randomly 2 people walk off the train and walk up a hill in the heavy snow towards a cafe. I only managed 35 mins before I had to stop but in those 35mins I saw enough stupid, random, bizarre scenes that would ruin 20 different films.
Netflix, you need to hire better writers ASAP
Bodyguard (2018)
Slick but ridiculous
Slickly made which hooks you in first few episodes but becomes more and more ridiculous as it goes on. Script is peppered with racist overtones and gaping plot holes
Kind of show that UK Daily Mail readers will love. That's not a compliment
Top Boy (2011)
Lame Script
This could have been a great gritty exciting show but this Netflix season is a joke.
Script and plots are laughable;
Man gets out of a black cab (which anyone who lives in London knows is ridiculously expensive) then tuts at price of coffee...
Turkish drug dealers suddenly dissapear cause few of them got killed (because they will not have no bosses who would want to know who killed their men etc...)
My man willing to rob a strangers house cause he needs 10k when he's driving a car worth 10k..
Etc etc
Writers clearly tried to copy the Wire but this is nowhere near such quality
Lazy script with no detail no authenticity and no realism. Acting quite lame also apart from Kano who is good
Netflix Top Boy is as gangster as Drake...
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Nice idea but predictably boring
Nice idea to have Asians as leads in romantic comedy but script is ridiculously poor, acting not much better.
Direction looks like ad for Singapore and western materialism. Beautiful people ugly production without even mentioning Chinese abuses of Uighur Muslims etc.
Gomorrah (2014)
Magnificent dirty estates
From the investigative journalist/writer who is now under police protection derives this iconic, masterful series. I can't speak Italian and have never been to the south of Italy but through this series I can smell, taste and experience the life of the grime ridden estates there.
Brilliant, exciting script that seems like a documentary. Great acting, esp Ciro who in episode 3 on season 3, gives amazing performance in one of the best episodes of television in the last 10 years. Any episode that makes you think about current world issues, makes you smile and almost cry while being totalling exciting throughout its 1 hr length, is something special.
Brilliant cast, great direction and wonderful script. Perfect ingredients for perfect production
Killing Eve (2018)
Watchable but nothing special
Great casting good acting and interesting premise but all a little too comic book. No depth and little too predictable. Nothing special by any means.
Only watched first 4 episodes of s1 and noticeable that all the male characters are very wooden and paper thin
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Beautifully insane and logical
Wonderfully original romantic story with one of the best endings ever, for anyone who has ever been hopelessly in love
Taxi Driver (1976)
Mesmerising
From the script to the music, to the acting to the editing to the directing, this is a tour of force.
One of Deniro finest performances. A study on loneliness, city life, communication, destitution and hope. Thrilling, funny and devastating. If you like Film, you have to watch this
Black Hawk Down (2001)
For the ignorant
An updated version of the film Zulu.
That's not a compliment
Black Mirror (2011)
First 3 seasons were good
Latest seasons worst and worst.
While first 2 and some of s3 had great episodes, particularly liked the girl obsessed with likes (Nosedive) and Men against fire (perfect analogy of brain washed soldiers in Iraq), the last 2 seasons quite poor.
Just watched striking vipers, predictable, boring and unrealistic
