Nobody (2021)
Old School action
Just watched this for a 3rd time and it's just great... sinple premise no political messages just good old fashioned music, action and great performances... the bus scene is an all time classic and the ending is just perfection with you'll never walk alone... great cast... it's taken all the best bits of other films but somehow keeps its own identity... which is something nowadays.
Can't wait for the sequel and just hoping they keep a similar theme and don't go down the stupid john wick 4 route... keep the nobody identity to itself and don't try and be anything else. Great editing as well. Fingers crossed the sequel can match this one!
The Holdovers (2023)
Superb and nice to see we can still see films like this!
What can I say, the performances all around were superb...Dominic Sessa giving a great performance and obvious Paul Giamatti doing what he does best.
The sacreenplay is nice and tight and the cinematography and the processing in post production to give it that late 60's early 70's vide really works well here. Sets are spot on as well.
To see chractors, feeding off one another again, after the most appalling year 2023 in history for films... seeing little gems on no budget come out like this and being recognised and seen is refreshing. I think this sets my stall out for 2024, stay away from box office as it's dross and stick to the more indie films like this that have love and care given to them!
Christmas Time (2023)
Horrifically Acted in places... but...
The main teacher is actually solid but some of the supporting actors are dreadful... but the core family decently solid... however is the film truly that bad? I've seen worse on Hallmark... BUT the acting and screenplay here is sooooo bad.
I'm astounded this actually got made... just scene after scene is poor... the sets are bad... I really can't think of anything positive to say on this one PLUS I PAID £1.99 for this dross... feel like contacting Amazon for my coin back hahaha
So considering this is the first review of the film.. it's a shame I can't be more positive but this is worse than a soap opera... hey ho onwards with the Christmas films.
The Equalizer 3 (2023)
The Worst Finale Letdown ever? Those last 10 minutes...
No No No... wow, we have two great little scenes, one in beginning, one in the middle and the worst showdown ever put to film for the ending./.. I'm a massive fan, EQ1 = 10/10, EQ2 = 9/10... this is just... it built up and built up then sat there at the end thinking what happening did the budget run out? Did they literally couldn't be bothered to stage a final shootout? What the hell... look at EQ1 finale in the warehouse, one of the best put to screen ever... then compare it to this...
I'm so disappointed, what a bad year for films, MI7 was average, Meg2 was just slack and lacking any passion and now this... I'm always happy seeing Denz and it's a slow burner they all are but left the theatre thinking... wow what a letdown!
1899 (2022)
Has some problems... but had SERIOUS POTENTIAL
How the he does Netflix think its going to get watchers by cancelling things all the time that take time to become great programs...
So yes tgis is flawed and IS NOT DARK... but there is potential there and by anouncing cancelation NO ONE will watch this now. Ive only just finished thinking mmm 2nd season could well be tasty only to read its being camcelled so ive just wastes 7 hours into a series I enjoyed overall for nothing.
So, problems. Its too dark in its cinematograohy. It couldve got to the same conclusion in around 4 episodes. Charactors didntgrab me and dofferent langiages didnt do it for me. Slow and going in andout of portals became tedious.
Positives: In a world of Lycra nonsense people producing thing like this should be applauded asit caters to a slightly mote intellectual audience... Music was superb and sound waswell put together.
Shame on you Netflix!!! You needed to give this a chance!
Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague (2017)
Atmos @itsbest
Not only is the show stellar the bluray in full surround aound will blow you away... just listening to the whole show and watching the musicians at the top.of their game... puts hairs on your neck!!! Watch this from start to finish! If you can watch on a top end syatem youre truly in for an incredible spectable!!!
Don't Look Up (2021)
Appalling Attempt @ Satire
This is just appalling... its dreadful and im astounded at the response to this. What a waste of two hours.... if this is what now equates to 7/10+ scores on IMDB now... well...
Mr. Brooks (2007)
Simply one of costners best ever
Pretty much perfectly acted by Costner... not ecen going to say anything else. Just watch it and see. Great story and its nice to see something with William Hurt aa well.
F9 (2021)
Worst fast film by MILES EMBARESSING
Well 6 7 and 8.. all absolute nonsense but emtertaining this is just embaressing and drawn out drivel. What is happening... this and No Time To Die are pretty lovked for worst film of tge last decade. Such a shame to aee tgw franchise turned into some of the worst action sequences ever.
The Last Bus (2021)
Really wantes to love this... but
Its like others have said... lacking something... some involvement... had so much potential this did to make a magical story and movie.
Cant put my finger on it but it felt like 10 set pieces with no realy story or join up... fragmented. Missed opportunity this one and a waste of Spalls talents!
Cry Macho (2021)
So disapointing... so so bad...
Well like others being a massive Clint fan... I have no problem with his age in this BUT I have massive problems with the appling acting by everyone and the poor script and laughable story and sub stories.
Just dodnt work and Clint and the Kid are NOT good together. Give this a wide birth tbh... ypu will be shocked... The Mule was solid but this... one film too far.
Old (2021)
Once Again the worst Director wastes another film... BUT
... as per usual, he does have great ideas... just a shame he really has zero ability to get a performance out of an actor/actress with this one... serious miscasting all around.
Felt like an extended version of a Twighlight Zone or something... solid ay best... but please please stop giving him the director chair for pitties sake!
No Time to Die (2021)
Really? What Have I Just Put Myself Through...
... and you notice how the sponsored scores were all at the start the 10/10's... knowing that on 06/10/2021 it's showing 7.3/10 and will drop to the 5's within weeks.
This really is POOR film making. After a fantastic first 10 minutes... to a dull and terrible Bond Song and intro... it's quickly nose dives into cliche and appalling acting and script.
Nothing in this film I can find to reccomend... really other than the additional spy in the black dress, wow what chemistry they had.
So, Madeline and Bond... the worst couple that enver worked in Spectre unlike Vespa and Bond... really feel so emotionally detatched it's embaressing to watch. The production and editing are bad... and at 2:30 it's about 30 minutes too long.
Killing sprectre off basically in the space of 10 minutes rofl rofl rofl... yeah that makes sense with a flower grower...
I can't get over this and the finale... well that is literally the end of the Bond Franchise... it can't actually come back now and 60 years now thrown down the toilet... Couldnt' be more gutted for what was possibly the best bond with Daniel Craig...
Christine (1983)
Simply timeless
Nothing to, superbly actes by everyone bar Alexdra Paul... who is poor... but this is all about one thing... and one thing only... the Plymouth Fury which is just incredible. What a film!!!
Wrecked (2010)
Nope.. missed the target. watch 2013 wrecked instead... way better
Like Brody but this was just dull... couldve been superb but just didn't hold.my interst there's slow burners and then there's this...
Bajo cero (2021)
Solid little thriller... ignore ignorant people
Haven't a clue why the negativity. Probably people who can't read subtitles. Nice little film this if only 10 minutes long. Good story in the end.
Tenet (2020)
Absolute Drivel
WOW, I never ever thought I'd see the day with Nolan, however, here it is. I've turned this absolute drivel off after 1 hour and 30 minutes of boredom.... and this becomes only the 3rd film (as in a proper budget film) that I've ever turned off...
So, where do I start:
1). The sound and musical soundtrack is one of the worst I've ever heard going from one extreme to another with zero flow or class (watching the 4k version disc). It's a crass bombastic noise fest one minute (even when not that much happening on screen) and then it's a muffled mess.
2). The lead being John David Washington is one of the dullest leading me performances I've seen in a long long time. Absolutely no screen presence or charisma to be leading a film like this... astoundingly bad.
3). What the hell is it with Nolan and flipping between aspect ratios. I love the fact that for years (used exceptionally in The Dark Night) he uses IMAX footage... however when he's done this in the past and gone full screen he's done it at the right time where it enhances the film in action scenes etc. In this, he's just randomly flipping the aspect ratio, switching between 2.20:1 and 1.78:1 at the most seemingly random momentswhenever he feels the need and it becomes tiresome!
4). If I get 1 hour and 30 minutes into a film, I expect to have a story... absolutely nothing here of interest... I'm sure it all becomes clear later on and we actually get a story, I'm sure we do. However, I simply don't even want to know what that story is.
This to me is the first time in his career he's produced bloated, bland, noisy incomprehensible garbage and I'm still in shock, I've been a fan of his work for many years now and he's never let me down but this... this 4k disc at £20 will be used as a frisbee for the dog.
1/10 it will be getting from me and how the hell this has peoples attention is beyond me. I reckon we could've just started the film where I left it after 90 minutes and carry from there lol.
TEDIOUS ON A WHOLE NEW SCALE I DIDN'T THINK WAS POSSIBLE!
A Lonely Place to Die (2011)
Lovely little brit flick
Great locations and nice production with some lovely set pieces. I enjoyed this... solid film making deffo give it a while.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Without doubt one of the best series over recent times
If you loved Karate Kid and lets be honest who in the 40's or older didn't you will LOVE this and please please keep the quality up, great series, absolutely funny as hell and Johnny is amazing... superb show and makes me smile for the 80s again!!! EPIC stuff!
Leave (2011)
I was NOT expecting this...
Now and then, and it is rare, a film comes along that simply doesn't see a cinema, doesn't get high rating then slowly but surely gets passed on by word of mouth... this is and should be one of those films!
I started this just wanting something in the background and had zero expectations for it really but wow what a lovely piece of film making this was... to the point at the end... where I sat there thinking to myself how did this happen? How have I now got all these emotions... the answer? Great film making.
This is NOT transformers but if you want an intellectual thought provoking film with a difference get this watched.
That for me is a 9/10!
Click & Collect (2018)
Great little Xmas gem
Cheesy and u noriginal? Who cares its got some great moments in it and deserves more respect great little film and Stephen gets the balance perfect
Truth Seekers (2020)
Couldve been sooooo much more
This had the potential to be amazing but its written like Dr Who for the BBC and even feels BBC like with limp scripting and wayward acting. Such a shame as the premise was great but its a bit Sci-fi for me and I'm sure Pegg and Frost thought it'd come across more clever like the end of "Worlds End" but it does... the episodes don't flow at all and although watchable very disappointing from them both. If this had taken a dark turn and stopped looking and feeling like it should be on BBC1 at 4pm in the afternoon this had serious potential. Shame!
Dark (2017)
Abolsute Genius
Its as sinple as that and at the start of the 3rd season qhen I thought it could lose its way wow... just sit down and blast all 3 series best series I've ever seen but pleaseeeee watch in German with subtitles!!!
King Kong (2005)
Not the recognition it deserves!!!
Typical Peter Jackson, however gonna watch the even longer extended 3 hours 20 minutes edition in 4k, not watched in years but the picture is epic apart from it being too warm for my liking. The sound is the unusual DTS-X high def sound and already is gorgeous!
However enough of the technical borefest hahaha... this film for me is stunningly shot... some of the shots of the city are incredible. It really is a grand film and for me better than his LOTR trilogy which I may well resist soon.
However its the cinematography and sets that set this film apart from most films... integrated so well with XGI which even in 4k is holding up well... stunning is all I can say, actually old school filming with modern techniques!
Classic tale and story that recreates the original for the modern era. Even Jack Black is watchable but the stunning Naomi Watts is very very watchable hahaha.
This film doesn't get the recognition it deserves!!! As an achievement in cinema alone its a 10/10. You want blockbusters that have a story and a smidge of empathy with the characters with possibly the greatest ending of all monster films ever... this is how you do it.
Marvel and DC and all the other nonsense need to take a step back!!! This is how you combine live action, real sets and CGI into an epic tale...
Midway (2019)
Worst film of 2019 by far!
My god... Roland Emmerich seems to get millions and millions of pounds of funding to just continually churn out crap and here we are again. Absolutely dreadful... the story and filming just jumps all over the place and Ed Skrein is appalling as is Harrelson and Quad... such a waste of talent.
What was the biggest shocker is the effects which look like I'm playing Battlefield 5 only not as good. They just looking appalling especially the Pearl Habour section...
I'm struggling to find anything remotely good about this, I thought we'd moved on from this sort of clap trap but obviously not as seem to be in a minority. I'd have loved this and been waiting to watch for ages but after an hour I really didnt care what happened to the people in the film, live die... it didnt matter. Wasted opportunity for me :-(
