Damned Shame / Verdomde Skaamte
31 January 2020
If you chopped up ideas from Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, Se7en and mixed it with some bad acting, a confused story line and some taxidermy you would end up with this. Abel Lotz was a nicely sinister character, but the driving force behind his actions was never really explored. A telescope and badly drawn fish does not a killer make......not it the land of film any way.

So So

This was a film, that, yet again seemed to have the potential to have been much better. There just seemed to be too many things going on that didn't seem to be significant or didn't contribute to any conclusions. Some nice cinematography, some good music, but not the best story-line.

Excellent Documentary
24 January 2020
Watch this. Interesting, shocking and worrying. You will be left questioning why the hell this person hasn't been prosecuted and pursued. A brilliant documentary about a man that speaks for itself. I don't think I have seen anyone implicate themselves, on camera, with such gusto.

Impressive Irish Number

I enjoyed this film! It was moody, it had good characters, it was creepy and unusual and had that wonderful sense of true horror bleeding into a fearful sort of madness. Yes, there were some areas that were a little lacking, but it was a brilliant film with some good scary bits. Recommended.

Nice sets
24 January 2020
There are some nice sets. And weightless guns........and characters. Even the demons/ hell beings / monsters........whatever, are just clones, no variety, rather like a cheap video game with freebie skin packages, same visuals, none of the thrill. Dominic Mafham was Shakespearean as always, playing Dr Betruger - this was probably the most engaging bit. The ending was pretty impressive, nice demon hoards and a big fire demon. Not enough to make a good film though.

Do Not

Slow. Great potential. Nothing really to gain from watching this at all. Which is a shame because at the very beginning it looked like it could have blossomed into something truly unnerving. Sadly it didn't.

Disappointing. It is The Boy with a garage included in the price of the house. There is some jumpy stuff, but then again my cat scares me sometimes. Talking of which, where is Monty? Does no one care? How is the house on fire and there is no smoke outside? How did a child go unaccounted for with the previous family? Why does he look like Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus? Where did Ray's body go? Why did I watch this?

Obviously it's your party, but I probably wouldn't invite this one.

Watchable
24 January 2020
This had the potential to be much better, but as it is it is a watchable, jumpy, spooky film about the perils of holiday acquaintances and the western ignorance of ancient eastern traditions. It is a good watch. There is good atmosphere, and you do feel for the characters which is a rarity in some modern horrors. Well worth a watch, but not one for the collection perhaps.

Creepy cupcakes but off-putting offspring
24 January 2020
I agree with many of these reviews....the major downside to this film is the presence of the children. They pretty much ruined all moments of suspense by invoking a genuine dislike within me that made me very ambivalent about their survival. I felt that this was reflected in the mother as well, the set must have been a nightmare. Other than that, it is a classical psycho stalking the house story. Good jumps, creepy cupcakes and red wool. A good horror let down by pesky offspring.

A positive thing about this film is that it only lasts for 78 minutes. It did seem to go one for much longer. Now, this is not an amazing film. I feel like there were two different elements playing alongside each other but not gelling. The desk clerks were probably the highlight and I enjoyed the end. As it meant the finish of the film. This is not a bucket list film.

Disappointing
28 February 2017
I was looking forward to watching this film, it seemed like it had so much potential, but I was very disappointed. I found the characters jarred against one another and the most believable was probably the raven. I feel that the bulk of what the film was really about all slumped to the latter end of the film, which made it seem rushed and inconsistent. What a shame.

Thought provoking and sad
28 February 2017
I have watched this documentary twice now, it is such a fascinating and thought provoking film. There is a great sense of sadness associated with this story and I still think about it now and keep recommending it to everyone that I can! This was a topic that I would not normally watch and this broke that barrier down, a totally unexpected and wonderful discovery.
