Carriers (2009)
It's like The Walking Dead, but with no zombies
The post-apocalyptic atmosphere around "Carriers" makes us remind The Walking Dead, even though its focus is a little bit different in relation to the series, once there isn't any zombie featured in. Besides that, spectators have to take in account that plot is mainly centered on the decisions in which characters have to make in face of hard situations featured throughout the movie, what is a clear evidence we are faced with a dramatic thriller and not necessarily a horror movie. It's even unknown, for example, where the virus came from and how outbreak really ends.
In fact, the movie's greatest aspect is that it makes us reflect, in a realistic way, on how it'd be if people actually had to live in a post- apocalyptic world, without government, social organization or even food. And what about familiar and sentimental ties? Luckily, author of the film leaves out any fictional, boring and overused Zombie theme. Besides that, Road movies are always welcome and this is surely one of best out of 'em.
Panic Room (2002)
Great psychological Thriller
Trespassing the house is the main factor to ignite the plot, once it happens at the very first minutes of the movie and immediately provides suspenseful moments. This perspective is different in relation to some other Thriller movies, where tension progressively rises up as time passes. Throughout the film, we can notice constant changes between extremely suspenseful moments and other not so much ones, in which characters stop to brainstorm the next step to be taken and serve as "refreshments" for spectators. This can be considered as a real psychological Thriller, once an interesting "action and reaction game" is created by taking into account all various elements featured in the plot. Strongly recommended!
Unstoppable (2010)
It's good, but don't take it so seriously.
The movie is interesting and it can be considered much better than its Canadian counterpart "Final Run (1999)". This is so true that Unstoppable conveys an indispensable sense of tension and shows off thrilling sequences of scenes until its final part, when "surreal events" start to pop up on the screen. For example, is a normal man able to walk on a high velocity train as if he were running on a simple treadmill? In the movie he is. These inexplicable situations end up terribly decreasing the quality of the plot from the moment in which they start to happen.
OK, we have to take in account the fact that the film is based on real facts and producers have the obligation to add fictional elements to keep spectator entertained, but the level of surrealism must be limited! I'd honestly consider it as one of the best Thriller/Action movies I've ever seen, if so many unreal scenes weren't featured in.
Jericho (2006)
Brilliant series. Poor ending.
It's not the first time I get interested in watching something about post-apocalyptic world. The fact is, I'm always in mood to see stuff about that theme. However, despite all that, I couldn't even imagine how amazing was going to be Jericho prior to begin watching it. It's simply fantastic! The show lets you brainstorm about how to survive and find solutions after your country is hit by nuclear bombs. The plot is really suspenseful and you end up asking yourself a lot of questions: Was that growing mushroom a terrorist attack? Who has planned that? Who is that mysterious man known as Mr. Hawkins? And what about the obscure Jake Green's past?
The show is incredibly addicting and sometimes I caught myself into a non-stop Jericho marathon. You always want to watch more one episode to attempt solving every mystery. Yet, I have to admit: it is not all good. The series wasn't going to be renewed until its ardent fans claim for a second season. And it came out, although it should have never existed. OK, it's fine the fact that series has an ending, but the plot completely changes its focus at a certain point and the awful second season starts to feature a boring theme about political conspiracy in order to explain previous events. Anyway, if you don't bother to receive an advice, here it is: be sure not to miss Jericho. You wouldn't repent to spend your valuable time watching it. Trust me: It's worthy a try!
Red Eye (2005)
Good idea, poorly executed!
Featuring lots of clichés and inexplicable situations, such as the fact that 5-stars Hotel has only one (unqualified) employee, for example, the film conveys a sense of superficiality, with no really deep scenes, what ends up decreasing the tension of the plot. It reminds me that 2005 Jodie Foster's movie "Flightplan", and it's curious how similar both plots are, once they feature smart female protagonists who, in the midst of innocent airline trips, find themselves enmeshed in elaborate terrorist plans that threaten the lives of their family members. Sadly, both movies disappointed me a little bit, maybe because I had overrated them prior to watch. Anyway, Red Eye makes me feel that producers' idea was really interesting, but it ended up being poorly executed.
Le grand voyage (2004)
A slightly good Road Movie
The movie conveys a sense of expectation in relation to the build of a good relationship between dad and son, but it ends up not happening at all, even though a specific event has made it clear the existence of sentimental ties at the end of the movie. It's not a bad film, since it can interestingly show off the difference between Western and Muslim lifestyle. Besides that, Road Movies are always welcome and, by the way, how not to compare it with the fantastic Anthony Hopkins' movie "The World's Fastest Indian", where there are also people driving through unknown lands. Yet, the plot really conveys the sense of not accomplishing his main goal.
