The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
Love him just a tad bit more now...
I can safely say, I am completely obsessed with him now. This movie just nailed it for me. I did not think I would love Mr Cavill in anything more than I did for Man of Steel, but he was so good in this. So good. But not just him, Armie blew my mind away too. They all played off so well off each other. They were funny,sexy... and the pace, the action. I think this is how I used to feel about the old Sean Connery 007 movies. The ladies were so wonderfully fresh. The villain perfect. I liked that I could not guess where the plot twists were going to end. Oh, did I mention that the music was awesome too. Especially that song that Mr. Cavill is listening to in that truck as he watches Armie being chased on the boat.I hope they do more. I hope to see them further blossom in their characters. Definitely adding this to the collection.
Super (2010)
I wish I liked it more
I just saw this movie last night. I had been looking forward to this film for ages,it seemed. I love Rainn Wilson. Every time I see him on anything other than The Office, I just remember some silly thing he did on that TV show and everything is OK again. I thought him perfect for this character. It was almost like they wrote this specifically for him. This movie even made me understand what that actually meant for the first time. Having said that, I was hoping for more. Usually if a film is making fun of itself, I see it... I understand it. Like Napoleon Dynamite. But I could not quiet embrace this movie. Nathan's character I loved too. Just everything else did not quiet click for me. It was like a bad movie not BAD enough to be good. Totally hated Ellen Page's character. I know movies are for entertainment. I know they don't always have to answer all questions...give you closure, per say. Just the story did not lend itself to completely, whole heartedly root for anyone. To the point that I almost felt sorry for the rabbit at the end.
The Family (2013)
Dream pairing at last comes true
I have always loved Mr De Niro. I have always admired Ms Pfeiffer. My only complaint of Stardust was that these two wonderful actors did not share a scene. I could not get enough of them in this movie. They have such wonderful chemistry, IMO. But all the actors involved here worked beautifully off one another. What I loved best was that they each had alone screen time to remind us of how good they are at this. It had humor (dark that is), action and suspension. By the time the climax comes along I was at the edge of my seat. I wish they would make a part two just to see them together again. Or maybe even another totally different movie, just with them again.
Babe (1995)
Like you are watching a fairy tale
Each character is beautifully brought to life. From farmer Hoggett to Dutchess the cat, no matter how little is said, how little they are on screen they are pleasure to watch. Nothing is over stated or over explained. And it's all there before you: the beauty and the horror that is life. Now before I scare you thinking you will get some type of lecture shoved down your throat, let me say again: it is like a fairy tale. You are welcomed into both worlds of humans and animals and the story of what happens when their paths cross and you mix in a little love, patience and that belief that your dreams have a right to come true.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Just cuz Tom is on it
I have a secret. I don't like Dakota Fanning. I keep waiting for her to not have the effect of creeping my out every time I see her, and it hasn't happened yet. The first time I saw her, she was really young, but she looked older to me somehow. Like someone had lied about her age and she was just a really small adult. So I tend not to look at any of her movies. But Tom is on this, so I stayed away as long as I could. But she is just too present in this. So I could not really enjoy it like how I had hopped. It's not a bad movie, if anything the ending to me was a little too abrupt. Like they either ran out of money or time. And yet it's still not a bad movie. It does kinda draw you in, you want to find out what is going to happen to them. You want for Tom and the kids to end up Okay.. yes even the little creepy one. Its been almost 10yrs now since this movie came out. Maybe they'll try again. Keep Tom and Justin...and maybe Dakota is away at camp or something
Stardust (2007)
True fairy tale
This movie made me feel like I could believe in magic again. It was like my mother was reading me a fairytale and it was coming alive before my eyes. It had royalty, witches, pirates and magic. Lots and lots of magic. It was done so beautifully, so perfectly. And no matter how much screen time each actor had, their input was essential to move the story along.Peter O'Toole, Henry Cavill, David Kelly, and Ricky Gervais are very good examples of this. The movie was very well paced, the story was fantastically told. And you had sword fights, pirates coming to the rescue, and a witch that you could not help but giggle along with every time she did something wicked.
Seventh Son (2014)
S'okay
Okay, so I will admit I am not exactly an expert when it comes to mythology. So I can't really put my finger on it, but it just felt like they got something wrong. Maybe it was just that Mr Bridges seems kinda stuck on the same character from RIPD. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked RIPD (little bit more than 7th Son,BTW )but that character did not quiet fit in on this film. The special effects were pretty cool, loved the dragons. Ben Barnes was sexy grrr... and I kept getting distracted by Ms Moore's long finger nails, so I really did not pay attention to her acting because I was waiting for her to use 'em like a weapon ..or just pock her eye out. If they should make a second part to it, I would be interested in seeing it because this one had so much potential.Maybe they'll get it right with another try.
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
Best I have seen so far this year
The trailer hooked me so good. Every time it would come on, I would need to stop what I was doing to see it all the way through. Usually when this happens, that just means I have set the expectations on a film too high. It happened with Robocop, for example... and the Lego Movie. But this one did not disappoint me at all. I was pleasantly surprised with what the movie ended up being about. And after seeing Mr. Firth fight on both of the Bridget Jones movies, I was so not expecting him to be able to open up a can of whop a-.I have to say, they need to give Mr Jackson more roles like this. He is so good. I hadn't seen such a good action movie in a while. The pace, the story and the action were just perfect,IMO.
Le Cinquième Élément (1997)
True Classic IMO
I love everything about this film. I like the look, the story, the pace, the action and the seamless ability all of the actors had in telling this story. It is made in such a way that it's a believable place, time and people. All the characters are three dimensional. Even the guy that Korben compliments on his hat choice is believable. I wanna go eat at that McDonald's. I wanna get some soup from that little oriental guy that offers to buy Korben his lunch. If I were to get a little teeny tiny bit picky, my only trouble was with the clothes. I don't think I would be able to pull off any of their outfits. Gosh, I even found Luke Perry interesting in this! And I don't much like Mr. Perry. Chris Tucker's character has all signs pointing to being annoying like Jar Jar Bing or Roger Rabbit but I found him very amusing instead.
Penguins of Madagascar (2014)
Cute as a button
There are some animation films that are both enjoyable to both children and adults. This is one of them. I found myself sometimes laughing more then the kids sitting around me. This was not as moving as say, How TO Train Your Dragon. But it was still some silly fun. The animation itself was good. That chase sequence looked like it was a lot of fun to do. I was so pleasantly surprised at how funny Mr Malkovich and Mr Cumberbatch are. The whole cast just played beautifully off each other. The only thing I had a problem with was the transformation of the penguins. I know its not always good to compare but when the Minions did their transformation, that was awesome.
World War Z (2013)
Nice little addition to Zombie lore
I don't admit this too often, but I don't like Mr Pitt. I had stayed away form any movie that had him in it. Then one day, I heard an interview that he had done to promote this film. I remember he said something along the lines of:" my kids love zombies and I wanted to make a zombie movie for them".Well, that over rode everything that I initially thought about Mr Pitt. How do you make...no,no.. what kind of movie would you make for your kids?!?!?! Let me tell you, this movie was not that bad. I was very surprised about that. I expected something goofy..maybe childish. This is anything but. It's not overly gory, but it does have it's jump in your seat moments. I have not read the book so not able to say whether it is faithful to that story line.
Blackhat (2015)
Just for the eye candy
So, I know that there is an attempt to let the audience understand the complexities of how hacking works, how it effects what it is attacking and why this is so bad. The visual that is provided, unfortunately did not make much sense to me. Nor did it instill the urgency of why the story needed its hero. Maybe it's just me, maybe I just need to watch it again. There were moments, here and there where the action almost got my attention. Then I would realize again that, nope.. had no clue what the snapple was going on. But if I am just being honest, I just wanted to see Thor without his shirt. You know, to keep me till the next Avenger movie.Dang, and I can't even remember if it at least had enough eye candy to help me decide to watch it again or not :-|
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Oh no,thank you
When someone tells you the premise of this movie, your little heart just gets so excited. Your imagination just goes wild with the possibilities... then you hear the dang rabbits voice (ppppppleeeaase)and blam your heart just breaks..and you have to have your arms tied so you don't pull out your hair by the roots. It helps if you look at in on mute and just have the close caption up. The way that they were able to pull this off is just mesmerizing. That red dress is.. amazing. Personal issues aside, this movie is worth checking out just to see how wonderful everything looks. And if you find yourself wanting to commit murder upon exposure to Roger Rabbits voice, hit mute and chillax.
Superman II (1980)
Man of my dreams
I remember looking forward to this film when it was first announced. I remember the thrill of standing in line to finally see this when it finally opened. For me the magic of seeing Superman fly on the screen was just that, magic. I see the film now and it still has a place in my heart. Christopher Reeves as Superman still makes my heart beat fast. And every time he is flying and does that little acknowledgment to the audience..wow. The story line..eh. I never liked Margot Kidder as Lois so my little teenage heart was not happy with the story. But it also showed me a wonderful side to the Superman character that totally ruined me for future expectation on men (wa-wa).
Miseuteo Robin ggosigi (2006)
An unexpected delight
I had never heard of this film. This film kinda reminded me of He Is Not That Into You. Like in that movie(HINTIY), Min-jun is not relationship savvy. She tries her best, but the harder she tries, it just seems to push them away. In comes Mr Robin Heiden who is not so nice in giving her unwanted advice in all things she is doing wrong. I found this film funny, tender and the romance sprinkled through out the film in such a perfect way that each time those moments came, they took my breath away. I suggest that someone please write something more current for Daniel Henney(playing Robin Heiden in the film, he is such a delight to watch. I couldn't wait for this film to be over, just so that I could see it again ;-P
Knight and Day (2010)
I think I am obsessed
I can't count the times I have seen this film... not because I can't remember when I have seen it. It's just that if I put a number down, I think I will have to admit there is a problem :-\ I don't get tiered of it. I like the story. I love the pace. I love action. I love my perceived chemistry between Tom and Cameron.I like that Tom comes across as both a man of the world but also naive when it comes across how to communicate with the opposite sex. There is a innocence to his character that make you just want to hug..OK,sorry. I am a huge fan of Mr. Cruise. So I may not be the MOST biased when it comes to not seeing his films with rose colored glasses. But if there is nothing left to see, you could do much worse then this film.
Romeo Must Die (2000)
Nostalgia is what makes me watch this over and over ...
I remember watching this when it was first released. I remember renting it when it came out on DVD. But unfortunately, I don't remember it once the end credits roll. It is a nice film. You can see that Aaliyah was going to have a good career in this because she is so pleasant to look at. Her smile..wow.. Mr Jet Li also has the charisma that will keep you coming back for more. But this movie somehow missed something. It's funny. The fight scenes are very good. But not any of these things make it memorable. The reason why I keep watching this, is because I see her face on the cover and part of me is sad that I can't immediately remember this film. So I try again
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Really liked this film
I don't think I relaxed the white knuckle grip on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This is what story telling is all about. It's easily the type of film that whenever you catch it on t.v., you have to watch it till the end, commercial breaks, time constraints and all. Jodie foster impressed me more in this film than she has in any other that I have seen her in. And to say that Mr Hopkins is what nightmares are made of would really not be giving him enough credit for what he is able to pull off on this film. The pace of the story, the soundtrack, even the amount of violence that they decide to use or not use is so well done in shaping this film.
