Dune (2021)
Great to fall asleep to. Too bad, was really hoping for something good
Great visuals, bad screenplay, ok soundtrack. Some actors are good, some bad, some useless. Maybe one big boring teaser for the second chapter? Let's hope they get things right for the next one. Maybe hire Jonathan Nolan to help out and Christopher for some tips.
Pacing of the movie is really strange. Important scenes pass quickly, useless scenes take ages..
Zendaya's role is laughable, all along the movie she appears in cheesy meaningless slow-mo shots of her in the sand like an ad for some parfume. Probably one of the easiest paychecks in cinema.
Some shots were quite epic, others were totally backwards and felt totally off as the whole movie has a serious tone. And out of the blue, we have a little scene of a Scrat-like cartoonish sand rat that has nothing to do with anything, and nothing happens. Laughed my ass off when some guy appears riding one of those sand monsters for a second, high point of the movie XD.
A Little Italian Vacation (2021)
Priceless moments, refreshing
Refreshing comedy on the Italian coast with some definite priceless moments!
Gravity (2013)
Lost in clichés
Some stunning shots and sound but sadly that's pretty much it.
It's lightyears away from other movies which take place in space such as Apollo 13, First Man, The Martian or crazier ones like 2001 Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Sunshine, Event Horizon, Armageddon, heck even Space cowboys, whatever you name it, anything is likely better. I guess people were happy to see Sandra Bullock on the big screen along with George Clooney. They both played their role well but their characters are typical clichés. If you like shallow stories without real plot that try to be deep with implausible events happening one after another I guess you'll like it. For the rest don't waste your time.
I'd give it a 5 for the shots and technical breakthroughs but I'm baffled from the high scores this movie received and trying like many others to give this movie the score it deserves, 6 at most.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Luke Skywalker, where were you buddy?
If you haven't seen any movies of the Star Wars saga, you probably are going to like it. It has beautiful places, costumes and special effects. Thumbs up for the overall costumes which have been very well revamped, especially the Storm Troopers.
If you did watch the previous episodes (especially IV, V & VI) and are a Star Wars enthusiast, you might be a bit disappointed. At least I was.
I see lots of arguments about whether this movie is a re-make or not.
But the bad part about this movie is actually maybe not the plot. But rather the cadence of the movie / the depth of the story. A lot of scenes happen way to fast where they actually should've taken more time for to actually appreciate the scenes more and to get more depth out of the story. Where other scenes happen way too slowly where there's actually no interest, or fake depth. Which gives an overall feel of a shallow story with no attachment to any of the characters. Which drives to the following :
Luke Skywalker, where were you buddy? we waited for you the entire movie
Rey (main character) is British Luke and Leia in one single person.
Finn is young black Han Solo with as best new buddy, Han Solo.
Kylo Ren, wining teen wannabe Darth Vader which reveals his real face way way way to soon. In the beginning he was cool and mysterious. His mask, saber-laser and outfit are awesome. But after revealing his face he was just this wining teen that can't even beat rookie Finn or Rey in a saber laser fight. And god, the scene where he killed Han Solo is an epic fail / bad acting / bad rip-off transformation of Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker's epic scene.
Maz Kanata, female Yoda?
Poe Dameron, Luke, Han & Lando morfen-time?!
Lor San Tekka - Obi Wan, is that you?
Captain Phasma - Like Boba Fet, you are very cool but pretty damn useless
The first 10 minutes is maybe the most original part of the film. The rest is mostly a modern powered on steroids mashup of the original franchise with reinvented wannabe characters.
Nice try but, I get it Disney : Let's bring the new generation to get into liking the franchise by doing some sort of interlude between the old films and what's going to come. A kind of mix which would supposedly appeal the old generation and the new ones.
Last but not least, yet another freaking Death Star to destroy, which is destroyed in the exact same way as the ones before. Come on, was it so difficult to design a new spaceship or plot to destroy it? Didn't the First Order learn anything from the Empire?
No way this movie is 8.6
