Sort Of (2021)
Not overtly funny, relying on its modern take on gender to push ratings
Now you can't remove its core theme of playing on gender as the humour and how as a modern society are evolving in its acceptancy, but without this core feature, there is no humour.
All good comedies have layers. This does not.
I believe that the ratings of others are due to its theme, not its entertainment value. My view is that as a comedy it just can't be rather above average because it just isn't funny. The odd smirk that passed my face was shot lived, and there were no out loud moments for me.
Overall, a disappointed attempt to leverage off past, or perhaps even some current views on gender stereotypes, even using alienation off the Indian culture to almost racial effect. Not a fan.
The Hunters (2013)
Don't do it.... don't expose yourself to utter rubbish
Other reviews say "Indiana Jones meets the librarian"... and frankly that's an insult to the librarian..
Indiana Jones has cheese in it as its a cheese burger and an essential ingredient in its composition, but this movie "THE HUNTERS" is lacking actors, direction and a decent script. Its trying to be a hamburger and all it has to offer is stale bread.
It feels 'made for television' and the special effects (I wont call it CGI because it looks worse the 1977 Star Wars episode 1.)
Bottom line is don't watch it. Even if you think 'I'd really like to watch an adventure movie' please don't. I'm trying to help you!
Furious 6 (2013)
Disappointing
Overall its a disappointing movie in the franchise. The 6 movies have had a mixed bag, with tokyo drift being the best in my opinion. The cinematography and vibrant colours mixed with the culture has more to offer.
But moving onto "Fast & Furious 6" There really is no acting in this movie. I wasn't expecting much from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel, but expected more from Paul Walker (Brian). Also, some the scenes seem to be edited so much as to piece together scenes that don't mix well. On the other hand, most of the action scenes make you feel like you're chasing Shaw yourself which for me adds to the action impact. While the plot is very silly, it will get a few laughs out of you (yes it seems more of an action comedy). And the movie keeps you on the end of your seats. So if you're a fan of this franchise, or any action franchise, see it. If you're more into drama or comedy (although this movie has some of each), I suggest you see something else.
Sione's 2: Unfinished Business (2012)
Saddened by this sequel
As a fan of the first in this 2 movie series (hopefully this is the end to it!) i was expecting a good entertaining evening.
This first movie contained good New Zealand similes and linkages to the country and sights only a local kiwi would know. The second used some different sights well in its attempt to track down the missing member of the 'duck' gang. However the story line was limited to one event through the movie, which didn't create a lot the view could grasp on to.
Characters were the same as the first which was a good sign, but thats when it stopped. Acting was good, or at least as good as the first movie.. But the screen play needed more depth. That was its failing.
I would not recommend paying to watch this movie.
