It was alright...
12 October 2016
Basically, it's alright. But I guess I have to write a 1000 words to justify this as a review. I wouldn't give it a 1, I gave it a 6. I watched this with zero expectation, I didn't expect it to be like the old ghost busters and I found it OK, and I didn't even smoke any weed to watch this movie. The humour (BUGGER OFF US SPELLING I AM RIGHT!) was a bit silly but it had some moments. I feel people expect to watch this and be catapulted back to their childhood, not gonna happen. The old ghost busters used dry humour, this is pretty much pure slapstick/toilet humour, I guess I was in the mood for something silly so I enjoyed it.

As I said earlier, it's just OK, like this review, nothing amazing, just average, but at least they tried.

Sublime
2 May 2016
It's been years since I watched this movie and I forgot just how spectacular it is. There are few films that leave you pondering at the end, just taking in what you've seen after the credits roll.

The direction, the acting, the sets, costumes, all fabulous and larger than life. And of course, the music, oh the heavenly music! Utterly captivated throughout the entire film, watching F. Murray's Abraham's portrayal of Antonio Salieri was quite simply, beautiful as it was cruel. You felt his pain, his anguish, he despised and revered Mozart as he despised and revered God for his predicament. Watching Salieri battle his own personal demons, his sincere longing to be known as a great composer, his frustration at his mediocrity and honest recognition of it, yet whilst he loathed Mozart, he loved him, rather was in complete awe of him and was the only one who truly understood the sheer magnificence of his work.

The scene where he picks up Mozart's work, seeing the realization on his face as each time he delves deeper it becomes ever more apparent what a genius Mozart was, no corrections, no revisions, 'as if he had just written was what dictated.' The direction, hearing the music piece by piece as it is composed, I felt like Salieri, a mediocrity witnessing the sublime, heavenly talent of an evolving prodigy.

There are few films that leave such an impression on you, this movie was a journey, an education, I gained a new found appreciation for classical music that I never had before because I was too naive.

This masterpiece was breathtaking.

Entertaining Sci Fi
9 May 2015
Overall I think this was a good movie. The acting was convincing, the characters came across naturally and with conviction. It's not a complicated film to understand. You find out what goes on gradually as the characters do and that's a nice touch, keeping you in suspense as you don't quite know what's happening or what comes next. The movie pulls you into its world, the storyline was plausible as far as futuristic sci fi's goes, the characters kept you engaged and you felt for them as they struggled. I would recommend this film if you're a fan of sci fi's, and to those who aren't because it doesn't use silly effects to keep you engaged, it has just the right balance. Fun, entertaining mind twisting thriller.

A peek into the world of Mr. Olympia
24 August 2014
This was a very interesting documentary, very well put together and you feel you're following these people on their journey to become the next Mr. Olympia. Mickey Rourke as narrator adds a nice touch to it. This is not simply about muscles, it's about what it takes to get to that level and what drives them! It has a nice human element to this which makes you feel for the people you're watching, you see the pain they go through and whilst I'm not an avid supporter of body building you have to give credit for such sheer dedication. It's not a controversial documentary, however nonetheless it kept me entertained and hopefully you'll find it a very pleasant watch too :)

A good watch
4 July 2013
I loved the original series of Berserk and this movie series has been a great addition. The animation work is superb, crisp, clear and colourful, it's a pleasure to watch. Last review I wasn't too happy but I understand they are fast-forwarding through the story. If you've seen the original series, you'll still enjoy this for it's visual treat, and if you're new you'll like it all the same hopefully. The story of Berserk is great, I hope they stick to it faithfully. Anyhow if you're looking for an entertaining anime series to watch, definitely check this out you won't be disappointed. And now my review has come to 10 lines I can end it respectfully, check this out! :)

Big Spoilers, whats going on with the story?
22 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but I don't think this was nearly as good as it could of been. Basically if your new to Berserk watch the old series otherwise you will have no idea what in the hell is going on.

The main appeal and the best part of Berserk is the characters, the story and the awesome dialogue they have between them. Well in this movie series, they've pretty much left that out, no character development, weak dialogue they've changed it in some instances so the characters (such as the King of Midland) seems to have a totally different persona. What happened to the Queen scene amongst others?

One of my fav scenes was when Guts meets Zodd the Immortal. Zodd is impressed by Guts' swordsmanship, Guts realises whilst their skill is not equal, at least the strength of their blades are. So Guts places his life on the strength of his blade, Zodd realises this and accepts his challenge. But in the movie, no duel acceptance, guts just says to himself 'at least our swordsmanship is on par,' basically changing the scene and made it a terrible let down on top of not making sense. Just ruined one of the most epic scenes in Berserk.

Then when Guts fights General Boscone and his blade is broken because of the previous battle (100 men fight) Zodd, who is just awesome watching from afar, tenses his demon muscles and throws him his sword. Well in the movie, Guts just throws up a flag and cuts him with his beaten and blunt blade. Ruined another great scene.

And I really felt for Corkus, all the characters felt like real people, in this movie, they've just left out the story basically, which is the main point of a series, film or book/manga, to tell a 'STORY.'

I noticed there were more a lot more tit and ass shots in this movie version which annoyed me, hell why not have a full on sex scene whilst were at it, oh wait there is. And yes I realise what happens at the end, but that's in context, not just mindlessly flashing a bit of tit/ass to keep people interested, and whether its a game, movie or TV series, when they need more ass to keep you interested, you know its making up for something its lacking.

I don't know if there just fast-forwarding through the series to get to where the last original series ended, if that really is the case, then I take back what I say, but judging from the changes they've made, I don't think that's going to be the case.

The animation work is great, but its like graphics in games, if the content is crap, no matter how good it looks, it won't actually be that good fun. Like covering a turd in glitter if you will, albeit that's a bit harsh. Nah actually, it wasn't very good.

Sorry I really love Berserk it is one of my fav animes if not my fav but I just felt this was a real let down. Anyone else feel the same?

It's a comedy, with a bit of mild horror.
7 September 2012
This filmed is described as a 'horror/thriller,' they should really add comedy in there because I found that to be the main theme. This is not a genuinely creepy horror film, it's more like a light comedy, so that's what you should expect, otherwise you'll be like me, an hour into the film, wondering when anything scary is going to happen. I love that feeling after watching a scary movie and you run up the stairs faster because you think a small demon child might be chasing you, well don't get your hopes up.

But if you take this as a comedy, it's actually not bad. The characters grow on you and they are funny in an endearing way. Not bad for a bit of fun, if you don't mind slow paced films with odd people :)~

I Am Bruce Lee (2012 TV Movie)
1/10
One of the worst documentary's...
27 July 2012
This documentary, if one could call it that, I found to be disrespectful and a disservice to Bruce Lee. It must of been hard to juggle all those ego's in those interviews, they even asked expert Martial Artist and renowned philosopher Mickey Rourke to give his wisdom on the matter which was comical to say the least. Then they bring out embittered old man who claims to be the grandfather of MMA, small point, the first 'M' in MMA stands for 'Mixed,' doing one style is not a mixture, end of non-debate. Bruce Lee didn't start Martial Arts until he was 13, and only intensely trained later. He was far more than a mere fighter as this documentary suggests, he studied and wrote philosophy. I just found this mockumentary attempting to undermine Bruce Lee, through claims of plagiarism (even though they're his 'notes' not published works, so how they could claim plagiarism I do not know, equivalent of me being accused of plagiarism when I copy sentences and make notes in University from books I have to study.) They try to undermine he was a great fighter, their MMA fighters, if they think a real fight consists of gloves and a ring they obviously have no idea of the harsh and unfair reality of fighting. Anyhow Bruce Lee wouldn't endorse a commercialized fighting competition that offers people nothing but mindless entertainment through brutality. Please don't compare Bruce Lee to the likes of Tiger Woods and Jay Z, he has more integrity in the tip of his finger than they have in every fibre of their being.

Bruce Lee also wrote about philosophy and life, he also studied and wrote poetry, look up 'Bruce Lee poems' you'll be pleasantly surprised. The only person who spoke with grace was his courageous and wonderful wife who I can only admire for her strength of spirit. Just what we should remember Bruce Lee for, his strength of spirit, far more than a mere fighter, he had the spirit of a warrior and was a refined gentlemen, traits we should all strive for. Sorry for the long review, but I felt it needed to be said.
