Chain Reaction (2006)
Ittenback does it again....
Well... I don't think I need to say much more about this movie, given that it is an Ittenbach creation... however, seeing that I need to post 10 lines in comments, I have to say that this is probably one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen (and I have seen a few).
The acting... well, where has it gone? It's just not there. People are running around like they don't even know the camera is rolling, and the plot does not make it better. The more you see of this movie, the more you actually want to kill the persons acting in it. Especially the guy playing Arthur Palmer. He is most likely the worst actor I have ever seen, and probably the most annoying too. Yes, Jürgen Prochnow has a small role in this movie... but compared to other films he has made, his acting is poor and lifeless. I can only assume this has something to do with the movie in total, and that he may have lost a bet to the instructor... don't know, and frankly, don't care.
Movies like these should not be allowed on TV... period. This will be the last movie from Ittenbach for me I'll ever see. Enough is enough...
Yes, I hated this movie.....
Feast (2005)
Nice horror flick
I actually enjoyed this a lot. It is not your average horror flick, and it does have some elements of surprise in it as well. The characters are nicely played and fits well into this movie. It has a lot of great gore scenes and some good humor too. The monsters are not too bad either. Even though there are no explanation to them, it still does not matter, as the movie just circles around the characters, and their battle to survive... which in fact never gets boring.
All in all I can definitely recommend this for horror buffs, especially if you are looking for something more than just "Hi, I'm Candy, I'm a teenager, and I like to go down to basements and get naked before I get killed by the big scary serial killer" kindda movies.
Well worth my time. I can only hope the followup will be as good as this.
Death Valley: The Revenge of Bloody Bill (2004)
So bad, it's not even funny...
This movie may have a lot of zombies running around (yes, running... like they are getting ready for a marathon), but it doesn't matter anyway. They could have put in 100 more zombies, and this movie would still suck. The acting is awful, the zombies are terrible and the story is just lame. I can only assume that the director was waisted when trying to edit this movie, because there are so many scnenes, that has plot holes and errors in them, that you just want to turn of the movie and lie down meditating over your whole existence, and why you ever wanted to waist 70 minutes of your time on this crap. I had to check twice to be sure this was not an Ittenbach movie, because it easily could have been one.
I'll give it 2 stars for Bloody Bill only, because he was OK... at least he was the best actor in this movie, and thats saying a lot.
Rogue (2007)
One of the best creature flicks I've seen!
One word... EXCELLENT!! This movie just blew me away! The acting was OK and the story actually was good enough to keep you interested all the way.. at least much better than other creature flick which has no personality in characters or storyline. But what is truly the amazing part in this movie, is the croc itself! It was brilliant. The CGI and animatronics was just great, and the size of the croc was just where it should be. Not too small and not too big, but still big enough to be feared!
I loved this movie, and without a doubt one of the best creature features I have seen! Hope to see some more of these movies in the future, and hopefully this will begin to be the standard.
Octopus (2000)
Not very good
This movie could have been a lot better, but it ended up in too much drama and too little squid. The dialogs and the overall acting in this movie is poor. I couldn't take any of the characters serious. However, as this is a creature flick, I am always willing to put the acting aside. This didn't help one bit though, as the CGI and the octopus itself was terrible. If it had only killed some of the poorly acting characters in the movie, then it would have been better, but this it didn't even manage.... even though the size was gigantic.
And the size... well thats also a problem in this movie. Normally I say yes to super sized sea creatures. The bigger the better. And this octopus was BIG. Kraken big. However, it fails in it's size because of the whole submarine plot. This octopus is about 200 feet, when you compare it in the end to the persons it grasp and the ship it is attacking, but it had problems destroying a small submarine, that is half the size of the ship in the end, which it then had no problem tipping over and destroying? That does not make sense.
Well, this whole movie does not makes sense anyway... my advice... watch Rogue or It Came from Beneath the Sea... so much better!
Minotaur (2006)
VERY good movie
For me, this was a GREAT flick! The story was good, the acting nice, and the creature itself was very nicely done. They had used animatronics in some scenes, not all CGI, which is right up my alley. And they had done a very good job! The characters in the movie had a lot of personality, and the relationship between them is also very atmospheric. I liked the fact, that it stayed away from teenage syndrome flicks, and actually had manage to put some good accents and dialogues between the plot. Not just mindless young people, that runs around with their head under their arms.
I had hoped that the Minotaur would have looked more human though, not just a big bull, but none the less, a very good job. I would definitely recommend this movie, if you like creature features where animatronics is used to a good standard with a story that actually makes sense, instead of just putting people in with the beats and killing them off one by one.
My advice... go see it!
Octopus (1998)
Very very weird movie, about a serial killer.... or so i believe. This does NOT picture any giant octopus or sea creature!
I just watched this movie, and I can fairly say that the review that has been written is NOT the correct one. This movie is completely different and has nothing to do with a giant octopus! For me, I was really disappointed about this, because I had read the review and thought this was definitely a movie for me. I am a big fan of giant-kick-ass-monster-flicks. But boy was I in for a surprise.
This movie is very very weird, and it indeed is a style the director Gou Suzuki has adopted to his creations. I watched this movie on a tape, with no subtitles at all. And fair to say my Japanese is not the best. Therefor i have with out a doubt missed a lot in this movie. But from just watching the scenes and the acting, this is not a very good movie. It jumps way to fast from one scene to another, and there doesn't seem to be an actual plot, other than a guy who kills people for the Yakuza. But as I said, i watched this with no subs, so i could be wrong.
But I have given this a low rating, as I was very disappointed in the movie. Not only did i expect something completely different, but the picture, acting and scenes in general were to the point of being ridicules. I would very much like to watch this movie again with subs on, in order to get the story and all, but there is no doubt this movie is not one of my favorites, not will it ever be.
Actually, the reason I am writing this review is, so that others who may be looking for this movie, don't get the same surprise as me. It took me 3 years to find this movie and watch it, because it just cant be found anywhere. I have seen some people look for this movie, and I have been one of them. I just wanted to tell people, that his is not a giant squid movie. It does have horror elements in it, and a small amount of gore, but nothing special. Not compared to what Japan has produced of gore flicks over the year.
My advice, watch something els.... and don't read the first review posted for this movie! He has gotten it all wrong, and has with out a doubt not seen this movie at all. I can only guess that the movie he saw was the American Octopus movie, that indeed has a giant squid in it. This one however does NOT!
