Il giovane Berlusconi (2024)
Something to see, if you truly want to understand modern-day Italy!
'Il Giovane Berlusconi' is one of those short documentaries (3 episodes of 50 min, max 1h) that nevertheless manages in its brevity to encapsulate the greatness of a man who, like it or not, shaped Italy from the 1970s until 2023 and, even now, post mortem, influences Italian politics.
Certainly as a political enthusiast and, being Italian, I appreciated this multimedia product that tries to make us understand different facets, even interviewing his great adversaries and I would even say critics.
I am sorry that so few people voted for it here on IMDb and, despite the fact that I am someone who never reviews anything (except with a mere vote), I thought my small written contribution was necessary to do justice to a valuable documentary.
1923 (2022)
What a great time to be alive to see Taylor Sheridan's Works of Art!
What can I say? Well, after 1883 I was ready for something really good, but I didn't know that the results would've have been so good.
Acting: top notch. Hellen Mirren and Harrison Ford are a perfect couple. I felt in love with the romance story between Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer. For sure, the fact that there are players like Rob Patrick and Timothy Dalton is something you can't miss on screen.
Budget: 200M in total is a hell a lot of money but, they're totally worth it.
I am addicted to the realism of the creator, who, as he has done in other series he has produced (Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, 1883, Yellowstone), truly succeeds in creating a very strong empathy for the characters and the context. I find that you feel part of something, you personify yourself in the story more and more.
I hope a second season will be made, which, as of today, 17/08/2023, has been cleared for production.
10/10.
1883 (2021)
Taylor Sheridan, I owe you my soul.
I'll preface this by saying that I'm not the typical IMDB user who writes reviews. In fact, to be honest, it's one of the few I write, but for this work of art, mine turns out to be a moral duty.
What can I say? It's not often I get to rate a TV series ten, especially a spin-off. I admit that I waited a bit before tackling this show called 1883.
Taylor Sheridan shows us all his sublime skills, elevated to a tenth in comparison to Yellowstone. I was shocked that the two actors (Tim McGraw and Faith Hill) are more musicians than filmmakers. Isabel May is divine, with a voice that knows how to envelop the viewer and carry him along with her throughout the journey. Then okay, no more needs to be said about Sam Elliott who turns out to be a milestone in the western genre. A big congratulations also to LaMonica Garrett, who is great in the role. I admit that I finished the last episode with tears in my eyes: the emotions I experienced were really intense.
In any case, this is one of the most beautiful series I've ever seen in my life (and I've seen a lot of series and movies). I'm sorry but at the same time it is understandable that it is only one season. The cycle is complete.
Small note: despite being a film, "The Power of the Dog" turns out to suck compared to this work of art and Sam Elliott was right to criticise it. The real Neo-Western is this one, not the one being peddled by Netflix.
Messiah (2020)
Messiah: Binged in 2 days, a must see for a Tv Series Buff
What can I say? I begin this series just with the intent of seeing something new, fresh...some 2020 stuff. I looked the trailer that made me very interested about it. I began yesterday, thinking of see just 2 episodes by day...but yeah, you can imagine what happened. Since the first episode, Messiah keep me hooked to the pc screen, until I finished right now. I was very thoughtful about the end but, finally I was surprised. This show brings contents that are really tough to deal: religion, nature disasters, politics and so on. I found very profound the parallels with reality.
9/10 (but you have to read like 9.75, not just 9, please).
Must see.
I wait for a second season.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
Ted Boredom.
First, I have to say that I'm an italian guy and the title has been translated in total different way: "Ted Bundy - Criminal Charm". I just remebered now the original title of the movie and I have to say that it's inappropriate. There's literally nothing shocking, not even a single drop of blood. I felt like the film has been "censored"; the director has chosen not to show us a simple act of the protagonist that it's really vile, that would have shocked us. Zac and the whole cast have done a marvelous job but the film is lacking in something. It's not just the violent part, but even the mentality of the serial killer. Okay, I have to say it, I'm fresh from Mindhunter so my expectation are quite "high" but I found this depiction of Ted Bundy really corny and censored.
The only good thing is the soundtrack.
First Man (2018)
A boring moon landing.
I just rated this movie with a generous 6,because of costumes and the scenary.
End.
About the film, I find it extremely slow to see and too much claustrophobic. Neil Armstrong seems to be the most glacial astronaut of the world, showing no emotion, keeping the same face expression along all the film. Buzz Aldrin is forgotten and he's depicted as a moron played by Corey Stoll. Looks like that all the work about getting to the Moon was done by Ryan Gosling.
I don't know what to say more...yeah, that's just a movie for real Ryan Gosling fan and even space junkies.
This movie doesn't deserve an oscar, trust me.
Not recommended at all.
Bird Box (2018)
Too much hyped
I've simply have seen this movie, because it was advertised pretty much everywhere. I think it's pretty hard, to genre it as an horror movie: yeah, we got some bloody part, but nothing scary at all.
It was too long and it could have last 30 min less.
Watch just if you're bored.
Dirty Money (2018)
Intriguing, Mind blowing and very deepen!
I begin this docuseries, without great expectations. After I've seen "Evil Genius", I was very disappointed about this type of things. Then, after the first episode of "Dirty Money", I reconsider my own judgement and I loved, pretty much all the episodes, expect the Canadian one. Seriously well done, I hope to see some other masterpiece like this in the future!
If you're a political junkie and economic addict (or maybe just a smart guy who want to understand something more about the financial system and scandals), that's the right type of show you totally need!
Sulla mia pelle (2018)
A real italian drama..except the fact, that really happened!
It's my first review here on IMDb. I saw this movie today and I had really felt the pain lived by the Cucchi's family. The acting is awesome, assuming that Alessandro Borghi is a superb actor (he played Aureliano in Suburra). In Italy, where I live, the death of Stefano Cucchi has been a matter for many years and it's still today. All hail to Netflix, trying to "do justice" to this judicary case.
A must see, to understand better what Italy really is.
