Original indie with young cast
10 April 2021
This film was funny, original, and nice opportunity for local artists to put something out there. Clearly not Hollywood budget, the film suffers from pitfalls that many indie films do... But it's still a worthy project. What you lack in funding and expertise is heart and originality. At times the script gets a bit slow, but I did get multiple laughs from these characters.

Indie film with a genuine lead
10 April 2021
This was a fun story! The film features a unique protagonist, a dominatrix, in what can be viewed as a comedy, mystery, romance, and noir. It is a true independent film, which gives it charm and a unique voice. Some moments felt a little talky, and at times the lighting and color feel amateur. But it's easier to look past that, knowing the filmmakers put their heart and soul into this project. Nothing about this feels "cookie cutter" or manufactured for quick cash. You can tell there is a lot of heart involved behind the scenes.

A Dark Story About Choices
10 July 2020
This film was recommended to me so I checked it out on Prime. It was entertaining from start to finish and features an all-around pretty great cast of actors. The story is about the choices we make as we become adults, and the revelations that can come from them. I would recommend it to anyone interested in indie films, particularly the drama/suspense category.

A fun story featuring Indian culture
24 June 2020
This independent film may not have had the budget of larger productions, but it makes up for it with heart and storytelling. There are plenty of jokes throughout, and the story is clearly told from the mind of someone who has lived some of the situations. If you're looking for a cute rom-com that about something other than the Hollywood tropes, check this out!

Fun documentary about.... feet!
19 June 2020
I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but overall this film is an easy watch. There's the entertaining side, and the educational side too. You would think watching something about feet couldn't keep your attention, but I'm happy to say this was worth the watch. There's tons of 'did you know' type facts in this, and it overall leaves me with the goal of keeping my feet in good proper health.

Feel-good Indie Movie with some fun
19 June 2020
This movie captures the spirit of indie filmmaking: a story that is grounded, underdog, and full of the human spirit. The cast is diverse and fun to watch. Some of the best lines from characters you wouldn't expect. It was a little predictable by the end, but that's not enough to be upset at the film. Two thumbs up!

Understanding and overcoming tragedy
17 June 2020
This independent film is the type of honest storytelling that comes from an experienced writer. There are some ups and downs for the characters in this story that keeps it entertaining throughout. The lead actors were enjoyable and believable, and the only thing holding this indepedent film back is the big budget needed for high production value. Even still, a great watch!

Fun Action Movie
15 June 2020
This is a low budget action movie with a fun ride. I do not review independent films by the same standards of hollywood films, and with that in mind - this movie has a lot going for it. The story moves fast, there's plenty of action, and the acting is great. If you're looking for an entertaining 90 minutes, AB Negative is that.

UFOs and More
15 June 2020
This documentary will take you on a journey into the unknown, considering some of the phenomena surrounding UFOs and the people ready to discuss them. It isn't the first of it's kind, but for someone looking to learn more about UFOs, it's a fantastic starting point. A few of the stories in this are very entertaining!

Uplifting Story
11 June 2020
This documentary has beautiful cinematography, beautiful subjects, and a beautiful story. It's obvious that skateboarding can be more than just an escape or a hobby by the end of this film. Any time a director brings a positive story to the world, it's a positive use of the artform in my opinion. Two thumbs up!

A film about mental illness
11 June 2020
Mental illness takes center stage in this dark, tense story. It is a film best suited for adults and has images that may shock you. The movie causes you to question who is crazy - the mom, or her child. It's a movie that rides on the shoulders of the lead Melinda Page Hamilton, and she does a great job. I would recommend to those interested in seeing an independent psychologically suspenseful horror story.

Heavy, surreal, and entertaining
10 June 2020
The movie is for those who are ready to venture into the world of surreal - in all of the best ways. It's an experience, aimed at creating an emotion for the viewer. The plot twists are many, and the cinematography is gorgeous. If you dig David Lynch or other surrealist type directors, definitely check this out. Originality is key in the world of indie films, and this is full of that!

Found footage style mystery horror
10 June 2020
This film follows a group of guys around as they start to uncover some of the dark secrets out in the rural country. The acting is decent- it's meant to come off as real world people as they make a film about their experience. This film is much more about the creepiness/eeriness than blood and gore. The overall production value is low budget, but nonetheless, it is an original story that doesn't rely on previous IPs or sequels.

An Independent Story in Detroit
9 June 2020
This is the type of film that exemplifies the indie spirit. With a low budget, the movie works in the romantic comedy world without the need for today's typical nudity gags and overt sex scenes. It's a pleasant watch with multiple laugh out loud moments. It's a blast seeing fellow midwestern cast and crew put up films like this!

Two thumbs up for this documentary
9 June 2020
Purdah is a film about the desire to overcome the odds. This was a deep look into cultures, biases, and the sport of cricket. It's a moving tale that respects its subject matter. My hat goes off to the director for finding such a unique story to put on screen. Two thumbs up! Worth the watch.

Honest, funny, and well performed
9 June 2020
This was a great date movie that gets you thinking about improving oneself to improve a relationship. Both lead actors were fantastic and I'd love to see Ricky Mabe in more. There's a clear understanding of the genre, by the writer and/or director here, and the comedy comes often. I recommend this film to people looking for an honest story about what it takes to overcome issues and move forward with relationships.

Music and heart
8 June 2020
This film packs a punch. Just when you think you can predict where it is going, the rug is pulled out from under you. The story considers the sacrifices required to pursue your dreams, and the consequences of them as well. As a viewer, it's satisfying to get lost in this world and come out thinking about one's own choices in life. Lastly - congrats to the leader singers - great voices!

A Zombie movie that reflects our times
8 June 2020
I wasn't sure what to expect coming into this film, but it proved to be a lot of fun. I've been a longtime fan of Night of the Living Dead and others, so it was cool watching this and identifying themes that come from the genre. It is impressive what these independent filmmakers were able to pull off without the time and budgets of Hollywood. Looking for some fun? Give it a shot!

Beautiful, emotional, powerful
8 June 2020
Risa is a perfect subject for this documentary. The film grounds you in a way that makes you reflect on the life you're living, and the older generations that have come before you. The fact that she escaped Germany and has lived such a full life is dramatic and heartwarming.

Two thumbs up! I hope others will discover this film.
