Sick Note (2017)
Brilliant British Humour
Love this. I binge-watched 3 times. Grint and Frost have a magical chemistry. The writing, the acting, and the story lines are magnificent. All the other characters add even more sparkle. I am waiting for Season 3. Please, God, let them have another season.
You're Next (2011)
Totally Unexpected!!!
Brilliantly written and directed. The acting was excellent. Interesting twist of events. No way of figuring out the rhyme or reason of this until the last half hour. Just watch it because it's not a hackneyed plot. I would not have thought that the slaughtering was done for the reason it was.
Mientras duermes (2011)
Well done!
Very well written, well acted, and well directed. The suspense was superbly written into the script. Just the right amount of gore not overdoing it.
From the hook to the finish, it kept my attention. I would give it a 10, but one character was annoying and you'll see who it is. I don't want to give spoilers here.
Tosar was brilliant and I was actually rooting for him because he was lovable despite being a psycho. Loved the twist. There should be a part 2.
Howl (2015)
Powerful and exciting!
I have an affinity for British movies and TV. This is a brilliantly written, acted, and directed film. Ed Speleers is a brilliant young actor. He's here in America doing some films too. I thought that I had given up biting my nails, but this film had me on the edge of my seat. The twists are awesome. If you like creative horror, this film is for you.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Very surprised!
I've never been a Jennifer Aniston fan because she sounds like Rachel Green in everything that she does. And to me, Adam Sandler was a filthy-mouthed stand up. But they were excellent in this movie. The chemistry between them was incredible. I hope there's a sequel. The comedy, the adventure, and the mystery were awesome. They are a modern-day Hart to Hart. The script was very well written, and the characters were very eclectic. Kudos. Watch this movie!
Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020)
Brilliant!
The 3 young guys are 3 of the most talented child actors that I have seen, and I have worked with many.
The plot is unique as far as I am and a great mix of comedy, drama, suspense, and horror. I don't understand how this could get lower than a 9.
Good acting by all. And it's not because I am an actor from Nueva York, it's that it just is all-around fun. Not to be missed!
Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
Should not have so low reviews
I was captivated. I think that the "hook" was enough to make me want to continue despite some low ratings. The acting was good. Clint Eastwood's son (Alex in film) could, with time, be as great as his father. I like twists and this film had it. I love the gore and intense scenes too. The backstory was slowly revealed at a decent pace.
Most Likely to Die (2015)
Acting B+ to A-
I thought that the acting was pretty good for actors without a huge resume. Interesting to see Heather Morris out of her airhead Glee role. I like the twist near the end too. It had interesting slashing as well. Just the right amount without being overbearing. And as usual, 99% of horror films leave the door open for sequel franchising. I would go to part two too since this was a very decent plot.
Chain Letter (2010)
Interesting premise
Well, at least it wasn't a campground slasher film or people getting lost in the woods. Lots of gore, which is probably why people like slasher films. The characters weren't too sympathetic. The best acting was done by Cody Kasch. But being cast into a worldwide hit, Desperate Housewives, he has to be a good actor. The only thing is the obvious age factor. These actors do not have baby faces to pass for high schoolers. They had some mileage on them. But using the chain letter idea was different. It added a bit of variety to the plethora of "lost in the woods" or stuck on a deserted island slasher flics.
Killing Spree (1987)
So bad it's (kinda) good.
Seems like an HB Acting School scene study workshop where people are trying to become actors. If this were the stage, the Coaches would have been "CUTTING" them every minute. But that's why it was funny. Plot? Bizarre. This should also be listed as "Comedy-Horror." Too comedic to be straight horror and not enough horror to be horror. But I like gore and this gave me some of what I wanted. Some scenes were like SNL skits. Watch it for laughs.
The Final (2010)
Superb acting!
You could tell that for young actors, they started their training young. A good psychological thriller. While not too intense, it kept my interest. I would have liked a bit more gore to make it more of a reason for the outcasts to be vindictive.
Island Zero (2018)
A goof
With no electricity, phone signal, and no internet, the laptop functions perfectly. The fear factor is good.
The Dentist (1996)
Entertaining
Corbin Bernsen is brilliant! A fun flick. Well written and good acting. Just enough gore. He portrayed a protagonist for whom one could feel sorry. Interesting how comedy entered into play even though it is a horror flick. I would recommend this film if you want a horror film that shouldn't cause nightmares.
Fresh Meat (2012)
Played me
This movie had great potential, but the twist of events after "teasing" were a waste of time. I had to turn it off. It's a good thing that I watched it on Amazon Prime, because I would have walked out if it were in a cinema. The acting- not horrible, but the actors were just doing their jobs dealing with a script that should have had more rewrites. My first New Zealand film. I hope as I see more that they're not as big of a disappointment. The hook was good, but after that, I slid off of it.
Deranged (1974)
A melange
This was a Twilight Zone and generic horror combo. I also thought, despite the gory and grizzly slaughtering, it had a but of comedy, whether intended or not. I found it interesting that the Narrator did a Rod Sirling type of thing throughout the film. It was reminiscent of "Throw Momma From the Train" and "Psycho" as well.
One review is that it takes place in Wisconsin, however, it's a Canadien film and the license plate on victim Mary's car was from the province of "Ontario." The murderer, however, paid Mary with a five dollar American currency bill. That might be a blooper.
