The Idol (2023)
2/10
Sam and Abel's circle jerk disappointment.
17 July 2023
1 star for clothes and 1 star for Lilly and cinematography.

What a waste of time. Terrible plot if you could call it that, and just all around all style and minus 10 substance.

The only time it got decent was episode 3 when a plot seemed to be developing but then again , that could also be because I smoked to make it bearable. Plus the plot was lost on so many occasions you end up just giving up and sighing through it all.

I'm pissed that Sam put us through this after such a great run with euphoria. What happened? Was it all Able?

Like a bad porno, they just went overboard on fantasy needless sex to fill up the hole left in the fact everything else sucked.

It's fun to have myers back

Stupid jokes and fun comedy. The story is good enough to keep you watching and some of the scenes are actually hilarious. It's certainly not for everyone but if you enjoy silly things, toilet/sex humor once in a while this is great fun and a nice way to pass the time.

Art for rich people
30 December 2021
Here's a stoner concept: Let's make art exclusive again.

Films by rich people for rich people where admission is expensive drawings of cats!

What a great way to bring back the pirate bay...

Generic "new" kids movie with a few good laughs
21 October 2021
Feels like it's already outdated, and it just came out.

The "game world" they presented seemed like it was made by people who never play games. The storyline was slow to get going and ended up being something quite generic.

The use of streamers, "influencer" YouTubers and real world news/celebrity people to talk about the game made it cringy and seemed to show its self awareness that it was a blockbusting un unique money grab film that won't be remembered in a hurry.

A tour de force of Anthony Hopkins
26 April 2021
Anthony and Olivia deliver a deeply powerful and utterly heart-wrenching perspective of life with dementia. Anthony has such a way to switch emotion on a pin drop with such immovable force that to watch till the end had me holding back the tears.

Such a subject could not be handled nor portrayed by any greater cast and crew with such accuracy in editing nor better symphony of acting.

Devastating and hopeful A true tale of courage and upstanding humanity in the grips of the brutality of war.

This is one of those films which should be seen by everyone.

Enjoy it for what it is, original and brilliantly trilling science fiction
9 April 2021
Ignore the 1 star reviews. All are just small minded people who can't handle that this show is original and thrilling audio/visual experience. All the actors are brilliant in that they can portray such emotion through phone calls.

Each story as well as the over arching story was truely unique and really well laid out, something that could really only be done through this medium of audio/visual style.

If you liked black mirror / twilight zone or really any science fiction trillers, this show is one not to be missed.

Apple really keeps outdoing itself, another great show added to their ever growing list! Bravo.

The kinda show you want to just curl up and live in
3 January 2021
The first episode seemed strange at the premise but my god does this show grow on you. Sincere, sweet and utterly endearing ted lasso is like having a bubble bath after a long day. It's addictive, funny and just so lovingly easy to watch. Lovely and masterfully cast colourful characters bring vibrance to a script which just keeps giving in all the best ways.

It's like a hot chocolate after a long cold day i can't wait for season 2!

Strange and disturbing take on Christmas
23 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film would've benefited from having animated cartoon style characters rather than try to make realistic figures, their movements and often jarring interactions with eachother filled with silences and strange eye/facial movements make things quite eerie at times and a lot to be desired.

The film is more of a roller coaster ride with several moments in the film being exciting thrills which are fun but those are the only highlights of this film.

The most disturbing aspect of the film is by far the totalitarian industrial city of which the very creepy looking elves inhabit. A metropolis of red brick and rigid structures, smoke stacks and elves in uniforms who never smile like some military regime with 0 space for creative or individual expression. The boy even looks through a window at one point in the city and sees a room filled with records playing the same Christmas songs and one record playing stuck on repeat as if alluding to their horrible nightmare where all these elves are forced to listen to the same stuff over and over and over.

Santa is not bubble and friendly, and seems more like a big boss would. The elves even celebrate in unison after Santa leaves, showing their elation for the departure of their tyrannical overlord.

Perhaps this is all just in this kids head? but then why would he dream such an industrial mindset? Eitherway, it's not a happy feel good Christmas film, and the idea of "believe" at the end is just sad considering it's talking about believing such a horrible world for these elves exists.

Incredible acting and interesting story. Just too slow for most
22 October 2020
Don't get me wrong - I love slow films, but this one just pulled on too long. The only thing that kept me invested was the gradual stream pulling the story along and the seriously sublime acting especially from Thomasin. I just just feel the film could've been 90 minutes rather than 2 hours and still would've delivered everything it had to offer.

Really a disappointing piece of overall bad filmaking
15 October 2020
The idea is nice, but unfortunately that is all that is nice about this film.

Abysmal acting and direction, terrible jarring storytelling and unnecessary plot points make this film pretty hard to watch.

It feels like they tried to cram too many ideas into one simple magical story and ended up spoiling everything entirely.

Such a disappointing waste of such an incredible franchise
28 May 2020
I wish Disney would stop making such vapid and trite PG crap. maybe they could watch their Classic films and learn a thing or two about making original, real and meaningful content and art.

this film itself is the product of 7 writers, proving again that too many chefs spoil the broth. It's so void of emotion with everything happening so quickly and meaninglessly. The actors have no chemistry and no character either so there's nothing to chew on between the random and boringly storyline and unsurprising action scenes.

The only good thing about this was the music.

Unrelenting and intense tour de force
29 February 2020
Acting sublime, such a unique and irritatingly intense character really brought up to 11 by Adam. The film is unrelenting till the very end, we had to have a break in the middle to keep ourselves from imploding. A true uncut gem of a film.

The sweetest film I have ever seen
20 December 2019
Utterly beautiful, sweet and true. A work of art for and in all senses of the word. The greatest and most touching telling of Santa Claus I have ever seen, When I have kids, this is what I'll show them.

Such a lovely cute show, gives me the same feels as playing stardew valley. Like it's just pure bliss to watch. So happy this show exists, cuteness in film form.

Wasted good animation on terrible writing.
20 March 2019
I was really excited to see this show on Netflix as the premise seemed to echo along the lines of black mirror or the animatrix.

Unfortunately, this show is none of those things. The stories are vapid and "edgy" with random nude women and "fucks" thrown in for no reason except to realise the seemingly 12 year old writer's wet dream.

We barely it though 3 episodes in the hopes things would change, but it didn't. Don't waste your time on this, It's sad that they didn't pair the brilliant animators with some at least barely decent writers.

unbelievably bad.

An insult to real magicians and a cringe to watch. Even more pathetic to see that all the 10 star reviewers have only one review to their names...
