The Real Friends of WeHo (2023)

Instead of adding representation, MTV takes existing shows airtime away for this trash

This show has been wedged to air in between RuPaul's Drag Race Season 15 and RuPaul's Drag Race Untucked, hoping for fans of that show to be too lazy to switch channels.

In turn, it also shortened the air time of Drag Race to 60 minutes with commercials instead of 90, making it appear much more heavily edited and forced.

Real Friends of WeHo disguised itself as queer representation, however it does nothing to earn it. In fact, to even exists, it cuts of half an hour of already existing acclaimed queer representation, which was, quite frankly, the worst decision MTV could have made.

This show might have stood a chance if it wasn't a pure cash grab and made to "redeem" Todrick Hall, who came under scrutiny for not paying his employees and much more.

If you want to make room for queer representation, actually make room for it. Don't take away the representation that already exists. Put your heart and soul into it and don't produce an ego boost of people who should need some time away from the spotlight.

Actually give queer people shows they want to see. Then maybe you'll get the ratings YOU want to see, MTV.

Don't force feed us trash and expect us to say thank you. Especially after peeing into our soup beforehand as well.

Give us back the normal length of Drag Race, find more space for queer shows at other times, and produce something worthwhile. Maybe that way you'll find success.

But this ain't it.

House of the Dragon: The Green Council (2022) Season 1, Episode 9

A great setup of what's yet to come

Let's face it, it was always going to be an impossible task to top the previous two episodes in their greatness. So I am not at all surprised that this one felt a bit tamer.

But nonetheless, it was an amazing setup for the Dance of Dragons. Many characters had new nuances added to them, underlining once again that nothing can really be divided into just "Green" and "Black".

Instead, Green is deeling with lots of inner conflicts themselves, which was very interesting to see.

We saw lots of scheming in this one, from all sides (except from Rhaenyra and Daemon, who seem to be the center of next episode). And the big Dance is finally on the Horizon.

There seem to be some people not liking the subtle ways characters here are portrayed and therefore decide it's bad writing, or they don't like the scene at the end, because they felt it lacked an obvious decision.

But I implore you to look at all the subtle hints that have been sown in previous episodes and in this one, as well as understanding that the source material is going to be added upon to make the characters more complex.

While this episode is not the best of the season, it also is far from the worst. And no where near comparable to the atrocity of seasons 7 and 8 and the painful mediocrity of seasons 5 and 6 of Game of Thrones.

This episode is well worth watching, despite not being the gut punch of an episode we know the 9th episode to be.

Everything Will Fall Into Place

You've made it past episode one of this wonderful show? Congratulations! You're almost at the point of understanding what this is all about. Almost.

The second episode continues with the exploration of our main characters, which is still the main focus. But the main plot is already in sight.

If you didn't fall in love with this show or it's characters yet, wait for episode four. That's the moment everyone I recommended this show to became obsessed.

I know that it sounds not great to say "It'll get better", but it honestly will. Not that the first episodes are bad, far from it. But since new watchers are probably still very confused, it might seem like the show can be kind of boring.

But me, who watched this show quite a few times already? I am so impressed at the amount of groundwork laid in the first two episodes. Important groundwork. And you won't want to miss the result that truly leads to greatness.

So if you're still struggling if you should continue or not: Do it. It'll be worth it.

Patience is key

Eight people who never met from different areas of the world seem to form a mental bond to each other.

This is as much as you need to know about the plot before going into it. Everything else would be a spoiler. And I'll be damned, you'll be rewarded with the best, most emotional, most suspenseful, funniest, most complex and most inclusive piece of television you've seen in a long time.

The only problem is: This Pilot needs patience.

Nowadays it seems like most shows spoonfeed the plot to the viewer starting in the very first episode. This show doesn't do that. It takes it's time to thoroughly introduce each of the eight main characters, gives all of them their own personal storylines, and waits with introducing the main conflict until episode seven.

Does that mean it's boring? Hell no. It might be confusing in the first two or three episodes and require you to pay attention, and not just watch it while you do something else, but at the very latest during episode four, you'll understand the abilities the characters have and fall in love with each and every single one of them. That's a promise.

That being said, the first episode does an impeccable job of foreshadowing different events and moments later in the series, and even upon multiple rewatches, you'll still find new things you haven't noticed before.

It really all comes down how patient you can be. And if you are, this show rewards you with a complex and interesting narrative and lovable characters you can't help but to root for. And in the end, this show might actually change your life. Or at least your way of thinking.

And that is worth every single second.

Face Your Demons Already

So... That tagline of this season was introduced pretty quickly.

Intruders threaten the safety of the spaceship. Clarke and Bellamy try to deal with the consequences of the eclipse. Octavia lashes out again.

This episode was extremely intense. There were so many great moments that I can't even list them and I am very excited to see where this is going.

That being said, the Clarke hate continues and so does my annoyance. Hence I keep this short so that I won't repeat myself.

Tears

I have this rule going on for myself. If an episode of a TV-Show manages to make me feel so much for the characters that I cry, it's a 10/10 for me. This episode did not make me cry, but it did make me tear up. And I figured that's worth a 9/10.

Other than that, this show has a lot of potential. There were quite a few OMG moments in this episode and overall I thought most of the characters have the potential to be interesting. The only criticism I have is that it felt a bit too much at one point. Suddenly, loads of big things were happening simultaneously and that did strike me as a bit unrealistic.

But besides that, I am definitely intrigued and will keep watching.

Rise Of The Commander

My main reaction to this episode was: "AAAAAHHHH. NOOOOO. FEELS. STAAAAHP." And yeah, that basically pulled all the way through this one.

Is it just me or does the intro prove once again how much Jarod Joseph (Miller) needs to be a series regular? Just like Sachin Sahel (Jackson), there is so much potential for them to have bigger story arcs. Give. Me. More.

But then again... All the characters deserve screentime. It was just amazing how I care about each and every one of them (with the exception of McCreary). It really makes for a lot of intense scenes. And there were A LOT.

This finale proves again how suspenseful, shocking and surprising The 100 can be. And I am so looking forward to see even more of this.

The 100: Damocles: Part One (2018) Season 5, Episode 12

AAAARRRRGGHHHH

It took me a long time to come to this point, but Clarke officially annoys the living daylights out of me. Enough is enough. I get why she is protective, but there is a line. And she crossed it tenfold.

The war itself is pretty intense. It is hard to see people fighting each other when you don't 100% know who to root for, though compared to the rest of the season, choosing sides on this one is a bit easier.

However, there were a lot of shocking but also emotional moments, that make this episode more than worth watching, proving once more that season 5 might just deserve to be considered the best season of The 100 yet.

Orange Is the New Black: Be Free (2018) Season 6, Episode 13

This could have been a 10/10.

The only reason why I don't give this "only" am 8/10 is because of the extremely important topics of racism this episode touches upon. But other than that, which was extremely intense, it was kind of underwhelming. I expected more of a finale, but what I got was more of a "middle-of-the-season" episode. And that was kind of disappointing. That said, this season was skyrocketing if you compare it to season 5. While season 6 had 2 not good first episodes, the rest caught itself pretty quickly and delivered almost what I wanted from this show. I would have wished for more grittiness like in season 4, but this was a big step up, so I am definitely not complaining.

Another pretty solid episode. All the stories were interesting, there was not one that I wasn't invested in. It was an okay set-up for a season finale, but I do hope something big is going to happen.

This is what I am talking about! I want THIS from a Oitnb episode! All season long. It was perfect scheming, perfect comic relief, perfect acting... I loved it. And the final scene was so intense! If it have had one big bang, this would be a 10/10. Let's hope for that big bang in this season's conclusion!

This episode had one of the darkest and most shocking flashbacks yet due to its ruthlessness. I was really invested in this episode as a whole, though. But I can't give it more than 8.5 points because unfortunately, it is still not up to the quality I was used to in season 2 and 4. But it makes me hopeful for the season finale, no doubt.

I am amazed at how often people fall back into their old habits on this show. And I am very annoyed by that, even though I am also very sad because I apparently care so much about them still, despite me disliking the previous season. Now I caught the fever again. Damn.

This episode features one very intense scene that actually had me choked up, because it speaks the truth. The rest of the episode was fairly intense as well. There were quite a few scenes I really enjoyed, and the shifting loyalties make this all the more interesting.

This is what I am here for! Sure, there are still a few things that are bothering me in this show, since a few stories are obviously filler... But the last 5 minutes of this episode were amazing! I hope they will build on that. I'm definitely looking forward to more!

I was kind of disgusted by this episode, which was kind of intentional though... And I know that immature humour has always been part of this show, so it's nothing new, but I am just not a huge fan of that kind of humour... So that whole "crappy" situation fell kind of flat for me... However, the rest of the drama between the inmates, the flashbacks and the scenes outside with Aleida were definitely interesting! So I am kind of torn when it comes to this episode. I was not bored, but it definitely could have been better.

Solid

This was not the best episode so far, but one of the better ones. All the stories were solid, with one or two exceptions, but the one that confused me the most was Pennsatucky's. I still have no clue about what the message in that one is supposed to be.

Other than that, I really did enjoy the scenes with Frieda and Suzanne, as well as Nicky and Lorna. Piper is still annoying, though.

Towards the end, there were a few intense scenes, (minor spoiler) like the killing of a small animal (end spoiler), and of course several scenes happening to our favorite inmates, so it was definitely interesting enough for me to keep watching.

But it does creep up on me that I wish that the show will end after season 7. It just seems like the show reached it's full potential. Its best to end it while it is (hopefully) still good.

Okay, first of all: This "reveal" in the beginning was so obvious, that it wasn't even a reveal. As soon as the "mystery" was started in the first episode of this season, everybody knew what was going on. So honestly, this was absolutely boring and unnecessary. Just to get this out of the way.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this episode! It was the best so far. All the intrigue, the character development (in most cases), and the suspense... It was pretty intense. Now this season hooked me. I am definitely looking forward to the rest! Please keep this quality up!

Of course, there have been a few frustrating scenes, I am not going to deny that. But that's part of OITNB. And it's intentional. So, once again: Great episode.

Better!

So... This episode starts with letting a story line fall that could have been one of the most interesting this season... Which means, we are off to a good start. Not.

Piper is just so freaking stupid, she is definitely on my bad side for good now. I can't even take how all of her is just focused on one single topic without focusing on anything else. She is so self-obsorbed, I am just done with her.

But, for the record, I did definitely enjoy the rest of this episode a lot. The flashbacks we had, and the scheming and intrigue happening overall... It was very good. I hope this season will continue to get better. I want this show to be good like season 2 and season 4 were. And I want to forget about season 5 REAL quick.

Season 5 was already a huge disappointment for me. It was so far behind of what the story could have been, so I just did not enjoy it. But I hoped that this season could make it all better again. This season premiere though did not do it for me. It felt disconnected, violence seemed to be thrown in without a real purpose, characters seemed like jerks just because they can (which gets tiring at this point - I enjoyed Piscatella for the reason that he actually was a fleshed out character). But hey, not all hope is lost. There is still 12 episodes left. Maybe it was just this season premiere that did not hit the spot, but the rest of the season will. We will see.

The 100: The Dark Year (2018) Season 5, Episode 11

Impossible choices

So, this review is going to consist of two parts. First, my non-spoilery review, and after that, a spoiler discussion/reaction about the episode.

This was an intense and disturbing episode. The more that was revealed about the Dark Year, the more shocked I was. The plots tied in perfectly with each other, and the episode ended at a really intense situation, that has me scared for the next two episodes. As of right now, this is probably my favorite season of the whole show. Who knew that a show, whichs 3rd season I hated, could catch itself in such an amazing manner and have me at the edge of my seat the whole time? I am most certainly impressed.

The acting of everyone was top notch. There is not much more I can say to this, without going into spoiler territory.

But I definitely recommend watching this episode. This season in general. It is just an amazing journey.

(SPOILER FROM THIS POINT FORWARD!) As soon as the "previously on The 100" started playing, I had to pause to get some food. Because I don't think I would have survived it otherwise. Even then, I wasn't ready to start the episode. But once I started, I immediately regretted the food part, due to Abbie vomiting. Which was delightful. As soon as McCreary walked in to the room where Clarke and Madi just tried to save Abbie, I thought now it would escalate. But it didn't. They somehow had a casual conversation in the next scene and I was just like "???". So yeah. I mean, of course, he spilled some threats and everything. But I would have expected him to immediately get rid of the two.

The Murphy - Raven - Shaw dynamic is amazing and I want a million more scenes of that please.

One thing that starts to bother me is Clarke kind of not giving a damn about anyone else... I mean, I do understand her motivations, but I would have liked to at least see more remorse or inner conflict from her.

It was obvious that they resorted to cannibalism in the dark year, but I was surprised to see it reavealed that early on. It definitely made me wonder what else was in store for us this episode.

Oh, and I also want more of this Murphy, Raven, Echo and Emori dynamic. Because yes. HOWEVER How freaking stupid was that plan? AND WHY, SHAW? WHY? <-- Back when I thought they'll be captured. Then I was like: YASSSS show me them badass fighting skills!

The dinner scene was really hard to watch. I was definitely not prepared for this.

I want to use this platform to express my deepest respect and love for the character Diyoza. At first I disliked her, now she is one of my favorite characters. I really hope she survives this season.

The Bellarke family really has a rough spot this episode. I still feel bad for Octavia, even though she did a lot of stupid and gruesome things in the past few episodes. But I really held out hope for something in the Dark Year to be responsible for her actions.

I had this theory early on, which I already commented on the YouTube-Video of the promo of this episode, that I think someone was pregnant (Abby) and Octavia had to shoot the baby. At least that's what it sounded like to me. But Abby suggesting that Octavia makes it a crime not to be a cannibal was extremely rough and disturbing. And Octavia acting on it and killing those who refused was even more screwed up. I do understand the mindset, though. She wants them to survive. Without food they die. When they are starved, they are not useful anymore when they're dead, so killing them now before its too late is sort of logical. Screwed up, but logical. But it was still extremely hard to watch.

SHAW AND RAVEN KISS WAS EVERYTHING

But Kane's decision to turn against Wonkru was shocking, to be honest. It made sense. But still. I was not prepared for this. And I am not prepared for the losses we are probably going to suffer.

So once again, all I can say is that this is my favorite season of this show, even beating season 2 and season 4, and I cannot wait for the two part finale.

The 100: The Warriors Will (2018) Season 5, Episode 10

Heda vs Bloodreina

Abby is in withdrawal. Clarke continues to try and keep Madi safe. Octavia faces impossible choices.

It was really interesting to see how Octavia deals with the traitors, though I kind of saw it coming. Marie Avgeropolous continues to impress me with her acting. This season, she really blows me away every time she is on screen. I'd love to see more of that. The outcome of that situation was rather obvious too though, unfortunately. I had hoped for something more gut-wrenching. While I am mostly on Clarkes side in this situation, she did something in the beginning of the episode that felt out of character, rather reckless and dare I say stupid. The actress of Madi also does a solid job, and her story just gets more and more interesting as well. And I also do really admire Indra for her loyalty. And her courage. Her scenes were pretty good.

Overall, this was a good episode, but unfortunately not the best one yet. I am definitely looking forward to the last three episodes of this season, since the showrunner Jason Rothenberg said himself, episodes 11, 12 and 13 were his Top 3 favorite of this season. So I am expecting great things. After this season overall, I am positive the finaly will be amazing as well.
