Da Vinci's City Hall (2005)
And just when you thought it could not get any better WOW !!!
I have been a DaVinci fan for years since the first episode in fact. But this new season opener just blew me away it has to be the best yet.
I have never, to my knowledge seen a show so full of biting socially relevant issues in a drama format before. This is not season 8 of DaVinci's Inquest, this is the beginning of a whole new form of Television Drama.
I liked the way that there was no long drawn out explanation of how Dominic DaVinci got to be The Mayor of Vancouver, And that he was thrown to the LIONS on his first day in office without even having unpacked his stuff. I have lived in and around Vancouver for 25 years and have seen some of the Social and economic hardship that exists there.
My hat is off to all Cast and Crew and Production team you have outdone yourself once again.
Himalaya with Michael Palin (2004)
I'm out of breath just watching this man.
Without a doubt Michael Palin is a true explorer out of his time. He would have been at home with the greats such as David Livingston, Cecil Rhodes, Albert Arrbuthnott and Fred Bloggs to name a few, tramping up them thar hills makes me feel breathless just watching T'Lad and he's nowt but a sprog of a lad at 62, Keep it up Lad your get better each trip. When the Telly is this good who needs the rubbish.
Michael Palin and his various trips are something to look forward too. You don't have to wonder if it's going to be good, just how much better than the last one.
His easy going, pleasant style reminds me a lot of Sir David Attenbourough's own way. Maybe the two of them should meet up some where and do a trip together.
Lost (2004)
Total Rubbish
Well once again we have to suffer the TOTAL RUBBISH that the network and advertising executives think is "GOOD TV". Slow paced, disjointed, bad acting. These stories have been deliberately prolonged to fill the 40 minutes of alloted time between all the advert segments. Television is supposed to educate and entertain us not put us to sleep or bore us to death.
I watched 3 of the first series, and then gave up in disgust.
Silly me I thought things would be better in the second series, but NO they are worse actually "ABOMINABLE" would be closer to the mark.
Hey Gilligan's Island had more drama and social commentary in it than this turkey, Plus it was more enjoyable.
The 4400 (2004)
WHY?
One has to ask the question " WHY would anyone go to all the trouble and expense of producing a TV show like this and go absolutely nowhere with it?"
So it gives Canada's (British Columbia's) film industry something to do after the other over hyped series "TAKEN" with many of the same actors and actresses in it.( A series lasting 20 hours that could have been done in 2 hours.)
So what is the point of this series? Give us a clue, PLEASE, as to why the 4400 were taken in the first place and then sent back,Who took them? In Close Encounters of the Third Kind we knew who we were dealing with early on in the movie and why, So Why spin out this sorry tale and cut to the chase, Save us all time , energy and money forego the old morality tales.
I am not interested in the mundane stories of Human Beings, I live with them everyday, lets see how imaginative good science fiction writers can be for a change. Or failing that why not spend the money on a good PBS "Nova" programme.
Science fiction has a long and varied background with great writers, and fantastic stories, so why use this "B picture" approach.
In fact if you want to see "GOOD" SF on TV watch "Red Dwarf"
The Murdoch Mysteries (2004)
A commendable effort
A commendable effort on behalf of the director and producers. somewhat similar to the Great Detective Series from a few decade back.
This is what we need, more quality mysteries from any period in time, made in CANADA. about CANADA.
Took me sometime to fathom out that the story was set in Toronto, and still unsure about the time frame. I suspect that the piece was set somewhere around 1900.
Which would have made it somewhat dubious that a Woman Coroner would have been there.
But who am I to knock a very good mystery.
Everybody knows that the Brit's are the tops in this area of TV, but now we have some good shows of our own, DaVinci's Inquest, Cold Squad, Blue Murder, Lets keep them coming.
