Summer School (1987)
6/10
question
1 June 2005
Don't get me wrong. I think that this is a funny and amusing movie. I've seen it several times over the years. The major thing that bothers me though is at the beginning of the movie when the summer school class is first assembled, there are nearly 25-30 students in the classroom. In other words the class is almost full. Where did all the students go? When the "favors" are being passed out for the students to study, the number of students is greatly reduced. There are maybe 10 people that take the final tests.--Not counting the guy that went to the bathroom for six weeks. I looked over other reviews and nobody seems to notice the absence of the people that were there at the beginning of the movie. Also, no mention is made in the movie as to where the others went. I like the movie and think that it is a joy to watch but that's an observation that I notice every time I watch it.

Funny Farm (1988)

better than given credit
7 May 2005
I've seen this movie on numerous occasions and still think it's good. We moved to a small town years ago. Since then the town has grown into a small city but originally we encountered things that the locals considered "normal" but we found "odd". The mail man that throws the mail out the window as he drives by--I had a mail man that wanted me to hold the box at the correct height while he put the mail in the box. That happened while I was putting the box up and he wouldn't hand me my mail but had to put it in the box. A sheriff that couldn't drive. There are various things of that nature in this movie. On another note the sexiest scene that I have ever seen in a movie is when Madolyn Smith is digging the garden and finds a coffin. Look between her legs closely and you will see what I mean. The Chevy Chase character eventually becomes as "odd" as his neighbors. Watch this one-you'll really like it.

Rated S for stupid
11 September 2004
I rate this movie "S" for stupid and also for the "Swiss cheese" plot. There are unbelievable happenings that you really have to stretch yourself to get through. If the Stephen Dorff character had been in prison, wouldn't he be on some type of parole and wouldn't the law enforcement officer have sent him back for the various parole violations that he committed within 10 minutes of being inside the bar. Also, the town folks are a collection of "stupids" who saw this character punch out his girl friend but seemed to take his side when he was talking to Dennis Quaid character in the same restaurant/bar. Why did they move there in the first place? Why did no one talk to the Christopher Plummer character about the disappearance of the Massie children? Why did we sit through this stupid movie? Why did Sharon Stone do this stupid movie? What did the Sharon Stone Character do for a living in this stupid movie? Those and other endless questions go through your mind as to plow through the plot trying to get some sense out of the whole thing.

Monster (2003)
8/10
disturbing
26 July 2004
I watched the DVD version of this movie one evening. I could not believe that I was looking at Charlize Theron when the night before I had seen her on The Italian Job. She is probably one of the most beautiful women on the screen and to see her appearance in this movie was something else. At first, I thought that the movie was going slowly but later realized that this was one of the most disturbing stories presented on the screen. The movie is disturbing and stays with you long after it's over. It is worth watching. I've heard that the complete story isn't there but even so it will give you a lot to think about anyway. Also, on another note, you will realize how good Charlize Theron really is as an actress.

wrong girl
12 July 2004
I would like to know how many viewers feel like he picked the wrong girl? I mean the main character should have gotten rid of the "Amy" girl and stayed with the blond--Erika Christensen. A lot better choice and prettier, too. I didn't really understand what purpose the boy with the hearing aids played or who he was actually in relation to the blond-Madison. It was supposed to be a teen "Fatal Attraction" but wasn't so fatal or so attractive. The scene in the pool should have been better-like it the locker room on a bench or floor or something. Watch it to see a pretty girl--Erika Christensen- otherwise leave it alone.

The Order (2003)
4/10
improperly titled?
4 July 2004
This movie could have been a lot of things. The title itself is a improperly titled movie. The real title should have been "The Other" because it was talking about a theme that has been in old horror stories and legends and that's on the theory of a "sineater" who provides salvation to the "sinful" person that the Church doesn't offer to that particular person. There have been references to this in smokey mountain stories, and even in an old "Twilight Zone". There were too many confusing happenings in this particular movie and not enough of the horror that is involved in the theory of "sineating". I was unable to determine what the "Order" was but did hear many references to "The Other" who was the sineater. No explanation was offered as to why the priest was recruited to be the sineater and why the "other" was leaving those duties. In the mountain legends it was usually as a result of the sineater dying and the unfortunate son became the sineater by default. Maybe worth watching, but not as good or as scary as it could have been.

Wrong Turn (I) (2003)

a real wrong turn!!
22 June 2004
I think Eliza Dushku is very hot. I really enjoyed seeing her on Buffy. The poor girl tried very hard to carry this awful, gory movie. The presentation was in an effort to see how gross the scenes could be. The basic plot was of the thirty-something young people walking down a mountains road in West Virgina and were killed slowly by three "hillbillies" who like eating human flesh. All three "hillbillies" were equally gross to look at. The killing scenes were gross and the remaining plot was just as gory and gross and pointless. Why didn't they at least show the girls naked in a mountain creek and give the audience something nice to look at. Why was anybody there in the first place? I have relatives from the mountains and basically if that many people had disappeared in that section of the mountains, somebody would have noticed.( Like the local law enforcement.)There was a virtual junk yard of cars that these "hillbillies" had captured. I actually watched the entire movie. I kept hoping to see Eliza in some state of undress to make the viewing worthwhile. It didn't happen. Save yourself from this "wrong turn" and don't bother to watch. To see Eliza watch old Buffy's or her current series "Tru Calling".

The Vicar of Dibley (1994–2020)
Where can I join?
6 June 2004
I first saw a selection from this series on public TV. since then I've acquired the Videos and the DVD's. These are some of the funniest shows I've ever seen. I've been around awhile and grew up on television when only three channels were there to pick from. I would really enjoy being in a Church with a Vicar like Dawn French protrays. She makes a real effort NOT to hurt anyone's feelings but still get her point across. Watch the one that was supposed to have Elton John at a community fair and you'll see what I mean. There aren't any one characters or episodes that you can pick as the most funny; each one has something really funny. When Jim makes his announcements. "no,no,no,no,no,no,no, parking is in the north lot" or "no,no,no,no,no,no,no, refreshments are being served". You try and figure out what he talking about. When questioned by a quest at the fair he responds with the same announcement. Really funny stuff. Rent these if need be to watch. It's worth it!!

Maybe a little more?
13 May 2004
This movie is moderately funny and humorous in spots.I would have liked to have "seen" a little more. It would have been nice to have seen Mariel Hemingway or Renee Humphrey or Missy Crider or any of the other actresses actually naked!!! I'm not talking about hard core or explicit scenes but just a little bit of what's supposedly going on on the bed between the women or even one of them walking around topless would have been okay. The sex wasn't there. The plot was however and the "monster" that was created by the husband's urgings became slightly funny. Not a great film but one that was amusing in some respects. Maybe worth watching keeping in mine that it's there for the implications and the laughs.

Mars Attacks! (1996)

Honestly,Mars attacked!
13 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
After reading some of the other comments, there's only one thing everyone should keep in mind. This film is for laughs and is spoofing the early 50's sci-fi films that some of us grew up watching. In the early film, War of the Worlds, the Martians were killed by micro organisms that were in our atmosphere. Here they were killed by Slim Whitman music. How about when the Martians were chasing people and zapping them while the "translator" machine keep saying "Don't run,we are your friends". The Martians like Tom Jones so much that they joined his back up singers. Every time I watch this film I see something else that's there for a "joke". Don't try to make this movie fit the sci-fi mold; just watch it for the spoofs and enjoy yourself.

Prepare for the surprise
8 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie very late at night and was very surprised as to how good it really was. Mira Sorvino was very good and very believable in her part. When she told the other two women why she couldn't get interested in anybody, the plot changed to something more than just a "gangster movie". Mariah Carey did a good job as well and didn't seem to try and "take over" the film. Melora Walters role did a change as well and the outcome had more action than expected. Making Mira do something with the body of the man that the gangster had killed was unexplainable but she was truly believable in her reaction to what she was expected to do with the body. This movie is worth watching more than once. Maybe you'll be surprised as to how good the actors do in the film and how GREAT Mira Sorvino was in it as well.

music video anyone?
3 May 2004
I'm sorry but to me this was one very long music video. The three women are GREAT to look at, there's lots of "action" with very little acting and very little plot. It's fairly easy to figure out that the Demi Moore character is behind it all as far as the villain part is concerned. There is also endless noise...I mean music. I wish that I felt that this was as good as the first movie or even the series but it's not. I would have hated to have paid to get in the theater on this one. I watched it on TV on one of the premium channels. Once is enough, I doubt that I'll watch it again.

I, Madman (1989)
Watch out
1 May 2004
I won't go into a complete plot summary, as other reviews have already done that. This film will scare you!! I watched it late at night and did think about it when going to bed! There are lots of unexplained happenings... like how the killer gets into locked rooms. At the end how did the "madman" survive being shot three times in the chest by the policeman boyfriend? Also, how did the boyfriend get into the bookstore when the girl couldn't get out because of the chained front gate at the front door? Lots of things like that but still a scary film if you don't dwell on the questions. There's some humor as well. The girl that was killed for her hair seemed to be over acting much like she did in the acting class. Also, I didn't note a lot of customers in the bookstore, how was it able to pay two full time clerks with an absent manager and with mountains of books everywhere that seemed to be just stacked up?? It was funny when Jenny was looking for a book in her own store and couldn't find it. (DO YOU KNOW the Dewey Decimal System?) Still worth watching for a late night scare.

They could have least shown Larissa Miller nude in the shower scene and given everyone something to look at. This was an attempt to copy "Die Hard" and probably a James Bond movie or two. I don't know which was the stupidest character--Rob Lowe or Larissa Miller or the terrorist. My daughter kept "rooting" for the terrorists. Also, what was the point of the "saving the little girl" scene at the beginning?? Also, did you know that you can learn how to operate a mini sub by reading "Popular Mechanics"? I quess you could learn how to fly a jet by playing video games or reading a two page article in some magazine. I watched the whole movie for a wasted evening.

Typical "wannabee" hippie movie
19 March 2004
I saw this one twice thinking I missed something the first time. I started calling it "Man Who Smells Like a Horsey" which was my final opinion of the movie. I think it was how the writer would like to think the world was and how "evil" the white man was at that time (in the 70's) and how perfect the non-white culture was or could be. Most of the movie was slow and some parts were just plain "gross". Most of it was a result of the "hippie" culture at that time and not really representative of anything much less Native American culture. Watch it keeping in mind the 70's message that was making it's way into many movies at that time. By the way, I was in college when this came out and my room-mate that went to the theater with me left after 20 minutes of viewing.
