Switched at Birth: This Is Not a Pipe (2011)
Great Concept
When first hearing the title of this show without knowing anything about it I thought, "I don't think so." Watched it on Hulu and really liked it. It's a great way to bring the deaf culture to TV. It was nice to see subtitles in stead of having some actor repeat everything a deaf person signs. Daphne Leclerc (Katie) and Vanessa Marano (Bay) are excellently cast. They carry it well.Constance Marie signs beautifully as if she always signed. The deaf kid on the motorcycle is very cool. Just a regular teen. The other story lines are good. Who broke Regina's car window? Tagging, art references. I just hope by taking Katie out of the deaf school it doesn't go all talk, talk, talk, with all lip reading. It doesn't look like there are any other deaf kids at the new school. It could have short scenes with only deaf in it with all subtitles. Of course not too much. There seems a need for more deaf actors.Or it will lose it's flavor which is what makes it unique. All in all it's a really good show and I know many people who are interested in it. I will definitely continue to watch.
Vengeance (2004)
Good acting and cinematography
My girlfriend and I saw this movie at a friend's house. We probably would not have picked this movie out because of the violence, but it was a great movie. To watch the lead demonstrate his ability to show the gamut of emotions was touching to say the least. I want to know more about this story. It would obviously have to be in a prequel. Some of the scenery was gorgeous. What a contrast with the gutsiness of the plot. It moved with great velocity. I would like to see more from these writers. There is a realism that is not often seen in film these days. The twists and turns in the story were so surprising, but seemed to be very sensible once divulged. "Oh yeah, why didn't I see that coming!" it is definitely worth the rent.
Lana's Rain (2002)
Great Independent Film Making
So much was said without using words.I saw this film with my girlfriend and sister and we all loved it.The lead actress and actor were superb. The editing was outstanding.I didn't mind the subtitles at all. There were a couple of things I didn't understand. The story was heartwarming and heartbreaking.Yes, the American Dream as seen from the other side. I thought the film was about to end twice and it kept on going only to get better. Some blood and guts, but not too much.It was tastefully done. It is a dark movie with a wonderful ending where she...oops!Well I highly recommend it especially if you want to see something different. And it really was shot in Chicago, not Toronto. Thanks for making a wonderful American film in America.
