David Blaine: Fearless (2002)
Opened my mind and with a magical enigma~
Watching this kind of magic, I'm at a loss to know how much of it is trickery and how much is spiritual (real energy magic)). I guess to Blaine, they are one and the same. And that is what gives so much interest and life to this collection of stunts and tricks we witness in this video.
Blaine is quite compelling as a performer, stemming from his own enigmatic character. He looks and acts the part of a "mind- altering" powerful magician.
This is a good introduction to his work; it raised my curiosity to read his book and watch his other performances.
The Mallory Effect (2002)
I wish this would get distributed, I'd like to see it again with my friends~
I saw this film when I went to Sundance at a smaller simultaneous film festival. It had me laughing so hard I choked on my candy. Okay, so I was drinking at the time. But thats not the point.
The Mallory Effect is well- written, well- acted, and most of all -UNIQUE. I don't understand why it hasn't gotten distribution yet. When I came back from Utah, I told all my friends which movies to go see when they came out- but yet this one seems to have disintegrated into thin air.
Josie Maran would get a big enough pull herself, with her ex- David Blaine sending so much publicity her way. There IS enough interest to see this film, so somebody with the power to~ GET ON IT! We want this in our living rooms!
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
another brilliant yet entertaining vision from Moore
Its not surprising that this film had the longest standing ovation when screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Moore's research speaks out sharing what progressive Americans want to express, but have been given nothing but grief for not applauding Bush's consensus society.
I laugh when i read the previous viewers comments accusing Moore of being Anti- American. How is that so? For questioning the government and working to create one free of greed and lies? If that is anti- American, then America is full of those sharing the same sentiment. Even if you don't agree with his ideas, that is what America is about- free speech and freedom of ideas. ALL IDEAS, not just the ones you like.
So when the Patriot Act was passed, of course those that enjoy their freedom, will speak loudly in concern... that is, when they find out the truth about the Act. Moore's purpose is to share what the government, in their growing ties to Corporate power, tries to keep out of America's consciousness in order to serve its own needs. And those needs are not in the best interest of the American people.
This is a must see documentary, along with "The Corporation"- a film made by the same Canadian company that made "Bowling for Columbine". These two films should be seen by any who consider themselves informed voters. They show America's darker side, not to express hate for the U.S.~ instead, to provide knowledge to those wanting to create a better country and world.
The Corporation (2003)
the most relevant documentary of our time: OUTSTANDING!!!!
I was expecting this film to be great when I saw it at Sundance this year. It had superior marks from just about every critic I respect. But I was surprised to find out just how good.
This film is magnificent. It has a powerful message, and uses it dynamically to create an interesting, entertaining show. It delivers such a wide range of ideas, with humour and wisdom, that you leave the theatre desiring to expand your knowledge on each one.
I didnt expect to be so emotionally moved by such a topic. It is heavy, without being overbearing.
It ended up winning the Audience Award, and it was well- deserved. I'm doing my best to spread the word to see this film, and hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves. If "Bowling for Columbine" can win an Academy Award, this one deserves that and more!!
