Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011)
Loved it
Read the book and found the movie true to it's story. Was surprised at the limited distribution. Hopefully, it will do well enough to get a national roll out. Amazing that Atlas Shrugged, first published in 1957, is so representative of the challenges we face today in the struggle between capitalism and socialism. I just hope capitalism wins out. If not, I'm afraid we won't be able to continue to raise money and make great independent films. I thought the casting was right on. Especially liked the female lead role. Apparently, if enough people see the film the producers will make Part 2 and Part 3. Because of the political issues raised in the movie, I'm just wondering if Hollywood will support a larger distribution. I certainly hope so.
Detroit 1-8-7 (2010)
Best cop show on TV today!
This show is fresh and very original, not another cookie cutter murder show and always the second suspect as the killer. Writers are terrific and the give the excellent cast some quality material, nice job how the story lines are interwoven. It's not just another cop drama, feels like real people with real life situations and problems to solve or resolve, including their own self conflicts. Every symbol, tool or character has a reason to be there. Characters are grounded and well thought out, compelling and we actually root for them, no mystery here, no hidden alcoholics or drug abuse by the show's cops (we've seen it so many times before). Even my 13 year old son has an interest in the show because of the good action and strong story arcs which actually make sense -- no sci-fi effects, these are people facing true crises and figuring it out. Refreshing, refreshing, refreshing! ABC you have a hit, let it mature some more, you'll win recognition for this -- reward your actors, writers and producers, with more episodes, they all deserve it! So does your growing audience.
Cowboys & Outlaws: The Real Wyatt Earp (2009)
Great action and rich detail!
Strong portrayal of Wyatt Earp by Thadd Turner who certainly looked the part, I believed he turned from lawman to a killer. Great cinematography, the scenes were layered well with rich depth and detail, very colorful and DP did a super job to captured the natural light. Loved the texturing by the camera, very vivid and jumps off the screen, feels very much like movie quality with solid performances by cast members. Historical accuracies are adequate, some flaws, but costuming, especially the women's period dresses were spot on and outstanding, generally one of the better History Channel documents on the Earps and their times. Wanted to see much more!
Kids in the Yard (2009)
I loved the action. The kids were great along with the music and editing.
This 8 minute short was so well done. It was fun to watch the kids having so much fun. Amazing how the director was able to manage all this chaos with so many kids. I loved it. To think it was written by one of the kids himself who is only 11 years old. Thanks to the school as well allowing them to shoot on the playground. I also thought the way the credits were integrated into the film was very creative. Wyatt Turner did a wonderful job in the lead role. The costumes were perfect. The sound editing was excellent as well. I understand the script was seven pages. It was shot in one day. This is pretty amazing. Getting all the action done with so many kids in one day is remarkable.

Real Western Rides Again!
And what a great script and performance by Christian Bale and Russell Crowe -- Peter Fonda was perfectly cast. This is a real down to earth blood and guts good guy vs bad guy shoot 'em up! Lots of horse action like a great Western should have and the tempo was great through out, watch out for young actor Logan Lerman -- he stole the show. Finally a decent picture with the sense to do it right. Screenwriters knew exactly where to plant all the right cues and actors delivered-- Mangold's direction showed throughout -- with this cast, just keep it tight on the page. Excellent job and hats off to your cinematographer and production designer-- you could feel the action -- hell, you could taste the action. Thanks for bringing a classic tale and an American art form back to the West!
The Wild & the West (2006)
Enjoyable look at the Hollywood Western
Beautiful cinematography of the American West through-out! Really captures the essence of the real Wild West verses Hollywood's reel West. Educational, informative, fun, and good entertainment for the entire family -- loved the vulture! White Sands, Monument Valley, National Parks, South Dakota wild mustangs, and Clint Eastwood look-a-like Joe Demmi is great as narrator with an authentic look from those Spaghetti Westerns. Saloon scene with outlaws running to their horses in slow motion is well done and some laughable humor. Entire segment keeps your attention and a nice break from daredevils, survivors, tragedies, and other contemporary events. Hope Discovery Channel does more of these, a very enjoyable and welcome one hour show.
Firehouse Dog (2007)
Great family fun!
Really a good family story and solid casting! All the right ingredients -- good director, well written script, family, dogs, action, and fun. The plot kept my interest throughout, and I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely the screenplay wrapped up all the main character arcs at the end for a small independent family film. Much better than several of the larger, overrated fare thrown out by the big studios. Greenwood and Hutcherson were terrific and the entire film was cast well, everyone was believable and did a great job.... and that dog was too lovable to ignore. We need more family features like this -- no huge special effects, just good storytelling. Go see and enjoy!
Miracle at Sage Creek (2005)
Don't miss this one! A beautiful family film!
They should make more Westerns like this! Wonderful cinematography and great talent, helps make this a real family treat! The story is rich with believable characters, and David Carradine puts together a terrific performance as Ike, the disgruntled and angry grandfather-rancher, who eventually looses his hatred of the past and finds self-redemption with his family and Native American neighbors. Great spiritual messages through out, good horse chase scene, and solid performances from an outstanding ensemble cast. The period wardrobe, tack, saddles, and firearms are dead on, and some of the camera shots are reminiscent of the old classic Westerns.
Seven Mummies (2006)
Great action and adventure!
Lost treasure, old west cowboy ghouls, and great special effects. Probably equal parts horror, Western, and action/adventure. The story is based on the real-life legend of Tumacacori, an ancient Spanish lost treasure of gold, and is a fun romp through the Arizona desert. The music is scored well and moves the film nicely. Billy Drago is awesome as the wicked cavalry saber-wielding town Sheriff. Don't expect a typical blood and guts horror pic, there's more here to the legend, as the six convicts look for the lost gold and meet their untimely deaths. Great decapitation scene, and a very cool Harley Davidson/horse chase at the end. Rate it a six, maybe seven, but definitely worth watching.
