Tusenbröder (2002)
The best Nordic TV-series ever.....
"Tusenbröder" is the first TV-series in many years that has made me sit on the edge of my sofa-seat and bite my fingernails because of the suspense. The great drama includes great Swedish actors like Ola Rapace (Steffan from the police-show "Wallander"), Shanti Roney (from "Hotet"), Danilo Bejarano, Anja Lundqvist, Magnus Krepper (from the miniseries "Bekännelsen") and Jacob Eklund (who plays a real criminal-psycho with the same control as Anthony Hopkins did in "The Silence of the Lambs") "Tusenbröder" is a 3 season TV-series (1 & 2 is 5 hour long, the third 3 hours and were also made as a 90 min. cinema-movie) who follows the life of Hoffa (Rapace) who work as an industrial painter together with his two best friends. When times get tough the three men decide to rob a bank, and from there the snowball run faster and faster until Hoffa a couple of years later is Swedens most wanted criminal and is suspected for the killing of three innocent people during a escape from prison. "Tusenbröder" is a fantastic great drama and is maybe the best of all the TV-series I've ever seen (I've got a collection of 2500 movies and TV-shows). The story was written by Lars Lundström and directed by Erik Leijonborg.
Hombres (2006)
A Great Miniseries
"Hombres" is a fantastic entertaining miniseries about 4 men who think they will do the con of a lifetime when the steal 354 million kroner (approx.60 million USD)from an unknown persons bank-account. The money is placed at a bank-trust in Mallorca, Spain where they then travel to.The story then takes strange and dangerous turns. And who's money did they steal...? "Hombres" is a 8 part story (à 45 min.)with some of the finest young actors of Sweden like Emil Forselius, Tito Pencheff and Christian Hillborg on the team. The two popular Norwegian actors Pia Tjelta and Christian Skolmen ("Kodenavn Hunter")is also doing an terrific piece of work. The makers of the series has earlier made a few miniseries which also were great. "Hombres" is highly recommended!!!
Ideal (2005)
A great deal!
"Ideal" is an very original series with great black humor and great dialog. Johnny Vegas rocks as Moz, the hash- and weed-pusher whose apartment is being used as a kind of local pub(without alcohol)by his customers. The whole show is without exception being filmed inside of Moz'flat and his friends/customers varies from heavy criminals to extreme feminine homosexuals. The cast is almost the same in the 1 & 2 season, except his necrophiliac(!) neighbor Judith who moves in for 2 season and some others only appearing for a episode. Even if Moz all the time pushes mild drugs you don't have to be a dope-head to enjoy "Ideal" (...but it helps...). As Moz himself says it: "You don't get addicted to cannabis. I should know who smoke it every day!". "Ideal" was first made for 16 episodes, each 25-30 minutes over 2 seasons + a Christsmas-special. Highly recommended! Now a third season has been sent on TV and is soon on DVD.
Ende einer Kommune? (1970)
Fassbinder in '69
"End of the Commune"/"Ende einer kommune" is a great 47 min. long movie made in 1969 about Fassbinder and the early years of the legendary Antiteater he was a member/leader of. You can here see and hear some of the actors he was going to use in his movies for the next years. The movie shows rehearsals for his play "The Coffehouse" which also became a television-movie, and you can watch unique footage from the 19th Film-Festival in Berlin (1969) where "Love is Colder Than Death" were shown. As told in this documentary, his first feature-movie were given a cold shoulder by many of the journalists and visitors at the festival. You can in "End of the Commune" watch Fassbinder and actor Ulli Lommel walk out on stage after the opening of "Love is Colder than Death", while a man in the audience is shouting "Out with the director!". In this interesting documentary Fassbinder also talks a lot about his father which was a respectable doctor.
Riget (1994)
Kingdoms Hospital: Kiss My Ass !!!
"Riget" is one of Danish Director Lars Von Triers many Masterpieces, not to say his biggest. Taking place at "Rigshospitalet" in Copenhagen, known as "The Kingdom"/"Riget". This is one of the craziest series ever made. If you don't get thrilled and have a good laugh by watching this, it would be a good idea to see a (professional) shrink. "Riget" breaks many of the moviemakings many unwritten laws. It contains a lot of unforgettable characters, from the absent-minded surgeon Moesgaard, the Swedish surgeon Stig Helmer who is responsible for a failed brain-operation on a little girl,Rigmor who is madly in love with the Swedish vicar-surgeon. The most wicked character in "Riget" is without any doubt Mrs Drusse who claims that a little dead girl called Mary is still walking the corridors of Rigshospitalet... During the series the situation become rather more mystic and full of chaos and the doors to another world opens with catastrophical consequents. Soon both the living and the dead must fight to get a place at the unstable Hospital. Stephen King's remake "Kingdom Hospital" is a piece of crap if you consider it together with von Trier's original!!!
Velvet Goldmine (1998)
Heroin, Bisexuality and music that makes you come....
"Velvet Goldmine" is a journey through Rock 'N'Roll's most outrageous era! It's a elegant mixture of fiction and facts. The film is starring Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rogue), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Michael Collins etc.) & Christian Bale (American Psycho etc.) among many others talented people. During the movie there's lots of Glam-rock as Iggy Pop, T REX, and Steve Harley & Cockney rebel to name a few of them. The plot is that it's been 10 years since glam-rock superstar Brian Slade (Meyers) faked his own death and vanished from the spotlight. Now it's the job of an investigating reporter, Arthur Stuart (Bale), to locate the living legend and uncover the truth behind his disappearance! "Velvet Goldmine" (which originally is a Bowie song) earned an Award of Merit at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. As music used in the movie is "Sebastian" and other's from Steve Harley, an electrifying version of Iggy's "Gimme Danger" performed by Ewan Mcgregor and lot's of more from perhaps the most thrilling part of the Rock-history so far. (included Punk, New Wave, Grunge etc) Watch this movie !!!
