Duchess (2024)
Action & (British) Humor combined
This movie is not that bad as some reviewers say. To start, the voice over of the main character (Duchess) is great, I like that always, gives a bit of background and story telling idea. The famous trick that the beginning scene is a teaser and then back to how it all started, makes you immediately curious. It's fast paced, maybe a bit too long though, never boring. Great performance of. Charlotte Kirk, perfectly casted. Less good in my opinion is the extreme violence showed, not functional and not to my taste. The humor is great, compensates this a bit, the story is not intended to be taken too seriously. The British accents are funny on themselves. All in all worth watching when you expectations are not too high.
American Star (2024)
Pointless waste of precious time
With a 5.4 score usually it's worth watching. Not with this one. Looking back at the high scoring reviews one talks about cinematography, character play, human relations etc. Ok, if you are interested in the desert like island called Tenerife in wide angle view you are in luck. But you could also find this on sites about holiday destinations. The only good thing is the performance of top actor Ian McShane, hence the extra star from 1. The story is thin as a hair, extremely slow and the ending completely unsatisfactory, leaving the viewer in total.turmoil. I'm pretty annoyed after watching this no-story, a complete waste of time. It's also such a waste of a good actor too. He was superb in John Wick for instance.
No One Will Save You (2023)
Original idea, good start then it went to artistic nonsense
The first half of the movie is maybe 7 starts, entertaining, making you curious, building suspense, great sound, nice filming etc. Reminded me of the movie signs a bit. The 2nd half of the movie goes very fast to a 1 star. Hence the 4 star in total. Halfway I was very entertained, it's not the normal kind of movie, there is no dialog (only 2 lines near the end). That required some guesswork (I usually don't like that, but it was bearable). Visuals and audio were good. Finally a movie where you can see aliens for more than 1 minute, in this movie quite some "footage", that's great, non conventional. The aliens looked scary, it almost had the feeling of a horror movie. But oh boy the last part and especially the ending, not satisfying at all. Some will call this artistic or so but my feeling was what am I watching now? Why? Who? What? Total confusion. After the movie I watched on youtube the ending explained. Ah, ok, that was what I saw. Still not satisfying. The ending could be so much better, so much more satisfying like in Ailien 1 or so.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
A movie displaying the real issue of humankind
This movie started good, nice story, building on the first story. Then the humans appeared. The movie went bad, more bad up until extremely bad. I quit watching after 2 hours. Maybe the director wants to send a message to us that we have to get rid of our selfishness, I don't know. In the first movie there also was this educational moment: "This is how it's done. When people are sitting on stuff that you want, you make them your enemy. Then you're justified in taking it". In this part 2 it's the same, they will kill everything when it is in their benefit. The graphics were stunning, that's all very good but the story is very negative, it depressed me, so I quit watching. I don't want this extreme kind of drama movies any more. The world is already as bad as it can get.
Ghosts of Mars (2001)
Overrated just because of Carpenter
My first movie from John Carpenter was Dark Star. Yes in 1974. That was ok. Then I saw "Escape from LA" and "They live" also ok. It's a special feeling the movies from Carpenter. But Ghosts of Mars... Wow that was really bad. I don't understand the high ratings. Very thin story, really bad "music" under the ludicrous action scenes, not entertaining at all. The film felt like it would take forever, much too slow. I watched it till the end and was happy the annoying was over. Not worth watching at all, except Natasha Henstridge of course. John Carpenter proves (again) he is able to make bad movies too.
Dead for a Dollar (2022)
No color so no serious movie in 2022
This movie is done a an almost black&white (brown&white) color setting for what reason? Anyway this is the reason I quit the movie after 10 minutes, don't want to watch a 2022 brown&white movie no more. Come on, what is this? All the effort, wasted by some stylish idea. I don't want it so for me this movie is a no-go. A true one star rating, pure and alone due to the color setting. Sorry. I don't care about the story, about the characters when it is in brown&white. I don't have a 4K high priced natural color OLED display for nothing. I want good colors! You CAN make a western in full color! Why not?
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Boring, confusing and annoying
This movie starts so chaotic, I almost could not bear to keep watching. After 40 minutes I stopped. I was thinking every character in the movie has a serious form of ADHD. The first 30 minutes you don't have a clue what you are watching. I don't like that, within 10 minutes after the start of a movie I want to know what it is about. 2 instead of 1 star for. Michelle Yeoh ("Philippa Georgiou").
Zero Contact (2022)
The movie title reveals the problem
A movie made with "Zero Contact" between the actors. The first (and hopefully last) Covid19-movie. This is not a movie, this is a replay of saved internet zoom sessions with so called actors which do their trick before their laptop camera (or something). It gets annoying within 10 minutes. One starts to ask "What am I viewing?" Then at some point I called it a day, waste of time to watch. An experiment gone bad (i'm referring to the movie, not the story which is basically near absent). To summarize: please skip this one, not worth any attention.
Dune: Part One (2021)
Same as the original: confusing, no affection, quit watching
My apologies, I only watched the first 45 minutes of the movie, after which I quit. I hoped it was better than the original from 1984, but.unfortunately, no for me. I didn't have any connection with the characters, the story is confusing, not interesting in fact. What do I care about an abused non-human planet which has the "spice", what do I care about some families ruling there? What do I care about "the one"? None. No not for me. This is a movie where either people love it or hate it, nothing inbetween. If you like Harry Potter you probably like this movie too. I don't like both of them. Í'm a "Guardians of the Galaxy" or Star Trek or Mandalorian kind of guy, not this in my opinion overrated, with much too long meaningless scenes of a bit strange kind of movie. I don't understand the high ratings.
Occupation: Rainfall (2020)
What a bad movie
Some people here think the bad ratings are fake. Well, I don't. I'm a scifi-fan, I like movies with aliens. I liked independence day, I really liked ''the host'' (2013). But this movie, so bad, no storyline, no character building, even after an hour watching I didn't have a clue what I was watching, some random scenes with good and bad aliens, a lot of shooting and bad, really bad cgi (for 2020), I suspect a low budget. During the movie I didn't like any character and even wished the aliens would win. Sorry. Total waste of time, lowest rating for me. I hope I forget this movie as soon as possible.
Reminiscence (2021)
Subconscious climate change programming with SciFi skin
Whether it is on purpose or the belief of the script writer. I did see the subconscious neuro programming underneath this movie. Covered by a bit of SciFi sauce, maybe, but I could not watch it to the end, it was too boring, unrealistic even from a SciFi point of stand. As if Miami will be under water or you could see memories in high 3D resolution with some device. That is not how our brains work. In my opinion but that is personal, SciFi movies have to keep the idea that it is (in the future) at least probable by a tiny bit. Call me paranoid, but I get the feeling lots of movies nowadays are there with the single purpose of programming the people's mind.
Boss Level (2020)
Great action, entertaining up till the last minute but then -2
Great action packed groundhog day version. Well played, good action, lots of humor, just what we like. But then the last minute, there was NO satisfactory ending, costing at least 2 points. Such a disappointment. With a good ending this movie would be written in memory as very good, now due to the extreme disappointing end scene it's average. Such a waste of effort.
Nobody (2021)
Finally a good vigilante type of movie, I loved it, fun action!
I'm used when looking at action movies like this lots of unlogic mayhem.and drawbacks happen. In this movie it's not, the main character pulls the strings in a consequent way. A bit like in the mandalorian series. That is what I like, no strange turns, just sit and watch the main character to kick ass. Very nice also to see Christopher Lloyd (Doc in ''Back to the future'') in action again. All in all a very fun action movie, no complaints whatsoever, well done!
Love and Monsters (2020)
Very nice story, original, well played
I'm not really a fan of ''humanity down the drain - only a few survived'' kind of movies but this one is an exception. Almost within 5 minutes after the start you are drawn into the story. Well played, good action along the way, great CGI, nice story, good ending, feel good. Yes certainly recommended for a broad audience, the adventure likes, the Sci-Fi likes, the fantasy likes, even the romantic likes. Plain and simple just a very nice movie, no complaints whatsoever.
Agent Revelation (2021)
Don't bother, uninteresting movie.
After about 25 minutes I gave up watching this movie, not interesting at all, bad acting, no connection with the characters, typical for this kind of movies is you have completely no clue what's happening, even after 25 minutes I still had no clue. For me that 's the limit, then I quit, already.regretting losing 25 minutes of my life for nothing. What's so special about Jim? Why is he trained? It simply took too long for me to get involved into the story. I like SciFi, but not this kind of puzzles where only at the end you know what it is all about.
Tenet (2020)
Worthless film
I saw a review with the title "brilliant film", to counteract I use the title worthless film. I have to admit I watched only the first 45 minutes of it. I gave up, no clue what I was watching. I hate that, I don't like puzzles. A movie should not be a puzzle, maybe for a short time in the beginning but then at some point it has to draw you in and that makes you keep watching. It didn't happen with this one. Tenet is an overrated much too complex and uninteresting, pretending to be Sci-Fi movie. You know what it really is? A waste of time.
The Host (2013)
Original story, very good screenplay, great ending.
I'm very surprised of some of the 1 star rated reviews, looks like coming from one person only, strange. This movie is a gem. It takes you into the story within a few minutes, it has suspense, drama, action, love, humanity, everything. It is so clever. Never boring, towards the end I got tears in my eyes. If you didn't watch it yet, please do, you won't regret this. I watched it in 2013 and forgot about it but I watched it again in 2020, still very good. I will watch it again after af few years.
Vivarium (2019)
The viewer of this movie is ridiculed
I've endured the 1.5 hours waste of my life watching this garbage pretending to be a movie. No story, no plot, no explanation, no commitment no surprises, no entertainment (except the looks of Imogen), worst ending, no satisfaction, no logic. Just a total waste of time watching this movie. Lorcan Finnegan: you are a big fail, please stop directing/producing or whatever regarding movies. Look for another job because you are not fit for this. Maybe you could be serving hamburgers or something. Unbelievable you got money for making this kind of nonsense.
War of the Worlds (2019)
I want compensation of my time wasted
Strange there are reviews with higher than 3 stars. I give it the lowest because it is drama with the label SF. No SF at all, maybe some fantasy. I feel mislead. The whole story is written such that you don't need expensive special effects, no aliens to see. The 1953 movie had more effects than in this 2019 serie. I saw the 1953 movie when I was very young and it made a huge impression. This serie did nothing except bore me and irritated me because already after 18 minutes in the first episode the first political correctness revealed: one homosexual son of a player. Not functional at all for the story but of course it was on the checklist.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Season 1 was Meh, Season 2 an insult
As a quite a fan of Star Trek I just finished watching both seasons. Season 1 was on the edge with lots of plot holes and science insulting stuff. Season 2, well, it was even more politically correct and with even more plot holes but the science... There was no science, no science fiction either, there was fantasy. An insult to every viewer with even the most basic knowledge of physics. For example on the final episode the drama with the photon torpedo sticking into the hull. Captain Pike stood there watching it detonate behind the turbolift door... The torpedo blows up half the ship, why wasn't the rest of the ship made of the material of the turbolift door? ;) There were so much more insults like this, terrible. Script writers writing SciFi should at least have basic knowledge about physics. Fire them all! I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 star because the CGI was pretty good.
Solis (2018)
I wish I could rate negative stars
What puzzles me is how it is possible someone gets budget for creating such movie. It's not entertaining at all but annoying to the max. It's so unrealistic, it pretends to be realistic that's the main problem. With guardians of the Galaxy you know it's fiction but this Solis movie... Cannot find words, I was so angry especially the ending, the proof of complete incompetence of the director. No good feeling at all, no surprise, no interest, nothing. Creating such movies should be forbidden!
Black Mirror: Metalhead (2017)
Nothing to misunderstand in this episode
I like the black mirror series, some very good, some average and some bad. This one is really bad. The black and white ruined it already from the beginning, I hate black&white, it's an excuse to get attention due to lack of quality or originality or both. In this case both. When this episode was in color it would get 3 stars extra. No story, no explanation, the viewer has to guess what, why. I hate that too, again a sign of lack of guts to make it somehow acceptable what you see. There was plenty of time to do some explanation, this episode is very short. To summarize: worthless. I deleted it immediately after viewing, I will never see it again. What a waste of time!
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
It's all for the money
Very angry after watching this movie. It's a trend, started by Netflix, now Marvel also sees a good money making formula to force people and Marvel fans to keep watching and buying the stuff. The formula is this: make a (potential) good storyline, use good actors and great cgi but then make an open end, ready for a sequel. I'm sorry but then there is no real satisfaction after watching the movie. Normally (especially) Marvel movies end well, the good guys win, the bad guys loose. In the old days you get a good feeling and have 2 hours of good entertainment. You can replay the movie back in your head and repeat that good feeling. No not any more, all for the money, more more, make (force) the people longing for the next episode. I'm ok with that with series, but NOT for movies. Movies need to have a satisfactory good end. That is why you watch 2.5 hours of movie. It's that I could watch this for free with friends, but in a cinema I would demand my money back. What would people say if you buy a book and there is no end, you need to buy another book for the end, it's the same thing. So that is why I rate this movie a 1, even though all my favorite Marvel characters are in, lot's of humor, super CGI and everything looks great for a 10 rating, until the last few minutes. It really ruin everything before it back to the lowest rating. Oh and please, it has nothing to do with that "I don't understand" the movie. I understand the financial reasons for doing this very well!
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
Overrated disappointing non sci-fi
Seeing all the commercials about announcing this Netflix movie I would expect a decent sci-fi movie. I like this genre. Oh what a disappointment. I call it non sci-fi because it's so full of nonsense. An average fantasy move has more logic in it than this movie. Doesn't make sense from start to end. There is no "science" in this movie. The end is really ridiculous and emphasizes the complete retardation (or call it non-education or low intelligence) of the script writer(s). Most high school educated children already know that water doesn't instantly freeze in outer space (it will actually boil due to the 0 pressure), also a space station filled with O2 isn't like filled with gas where a spark would give a blast. Besides that it's not needed to fill it with 100% O2 to overcome a few hours. Besides that O2 pumps doesn't use megawatts of power. Come on, script writer(s), use your brain(s). Netflix: please fire these morons and hire people which have had some basic education (when making sci-fi movies). Stupid, waste of time, shift-delete (yes, I'm angry).
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Annoying to watch, really annoying
With moderate expectations I watched this movie. Moderate in the sense that I hoped this sequel is better than the original. What a disappointment! I watched it with growing irritation: nothing happens for so long time, predictable too, it was very easy to guess that the replicant child was K. All scenes took forever and not even close to enthralling. And then the darkness, the depressing, the ever going rain in the scenes. No, this was my worst movie of 2017. I don't understand the high ratings. This movie is NOT worth watching and a complete waste of money.
