Psycho Vixens (2004)
We need some PsychoVixens in our lives!!!!
I have been watching Andrew's films for 2 years now and they are just so damn entertaining. First Buttonhead, then KILL and now PsychoVixens. They just keep getting better and better. Andrew just has such a great sense of humor with his films and it just shows. I am looking forward to more from Andrew and Gonzoriffic.
I know that I just have to mention that awesome acting of Monica Puller. She is a star, in my eyes and her character of Samantha in PsychoVixens was terrific. Another actress that I have to talk about is Wendy Throbb. This is the first time that I have seen anything that she was in and she just amazes me. What a great actress and I am looking forward to seeing her in Hero Cookie. Now, let's talk about Stuart Balls as Oscar. What a great actor and his whining in the film just cracked me up so much. Oscar is definitely one of my favorite characters in this film. Well, everyone did great work. I give credit to them all!!!!!
All in all, PsychoVixens is hilarious, sexy and very insane. Just a comic thrill ride from beginning to end. I highly recommend PsychoVixens, especially to check out the really funny and very cool ending!!!!
Faces of Schlock (2005)
This is pure schlock of the craziest kind.
First there was The House That Dripped Blood and then Creepshow followed by After Midnight. What am I trying to say you ask? Well, these are some of my favorite anthologies, so imagine my glee when I found out that Henrique Couto was, indeed, going to be putting together an anthology himself. The title of this new film in the bowels of Freak Productions is called Faces of Schlock.
Henrique Couto was joined by fellow filmmakers Andrew Shearer and Chris LaMartina in quite possibly one of the coolest and zaniest films this side of b-moviedom (wow, I've never used that expression before).
Faces of Schlock has one of the coolest horror hostesses ever, by the name of Slutpira. She is very sexy and has some great one-liners that will have you rolling on the floor. Move over Vampira and Elvira, Slutpira is the next wave of horror hostesses.
The short films that make up Faces of Schlock are Buttonhead (Andrew Shearer), Diagnosis Terror (Henrique Couto) and Neckbrace (Chris LaMartina). These shorts are a lot of fun and will have you rolling with laughter!
Just check this film out for yourself. I highly recommend it.
HeadCheese (2003)
This movie is funny as hell.
I got to check this flick out over a year ago and was so excited about watching it, since I just love slasher films. It just goes to show that I am one of the cheesiest persons EVER! This one is SO cheesy that it kept me glued to the screen the whole 65 minutes that I was watching this. Henrique Couto is one wacky and zany guy. He was the best part of HEADCHEESE! Just seeing him being splashed with fake blood. now that is hilarious. He's not that bad of a singer either! I also thought that the rest of the cast did a really good job and every time I think about it, I laugh hysterically and that doesn't happen all the time. All in all, I think HEADCHEESE is just a great time and everyone should check it out soon!
The Bonesetter (2003)
The Bonesetter is a great independent horror film!
After getting the chance to see Brett's first film, THE FERAL MAN, I was so excited when I got my hands on THE BONESETTER. Oh man...
THE BONESETTER has a great story, the acting is awesome and the killer is top-notch.
Even though Brett directed this film, he is definitely a great actor and I am really looking forward to seeing more films that he has been in. I am wondering if this guy can do no wrong! Does this one have any gore in it? Well, I would have to say that it does have some, especially that of a character that gets his heart ripped out. Wait a minute! Is that the only gore scene? Well, even if it was one gore scene, it was a great scene! OK, now let's talk about this Bonesetter guy. I was wondering if you would ever get to see what this guy looked like and it was almost to the end when you find out and let me tell you, that is one of the creepiest guys that I have ever seen in an independent film. I definitely wouldn't want to cross paths with him.
The one thing that I enjoyed so much was seeing Lloyd Kaufman play the mayor. Come on now...when is it when you can see a mayor being talking on TV and you see the poster for CITIZEN TOXIE in the background? That was great and I absolutely love Lloyd! All in all, THE BONESETTER has a kick ass plot, a creepy villain, good effects and some really good acting. I highly recommend this flick!
*THE BONESETTER is now included in a 2-DVD set from Brentwood entitled DEAD & ROTTING. Check it out!!!
13 Seconds (2003)
13 Seconds Rocks!
When I first heard about this film, I wasn't too sure if I'd like it...but my friend recommended it to me, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Was I surprised? Are you kidding me? I thought this was a great film. Sure the acting is pretty bad, but the creepiness, story and gore sure does makes up for that.
I have to give Jeff Thomas the highest regards for this film. Being the director and the star, I thought he did an excellent job. I hope I'm not alone in this, but I thought his acting reminded me of Emilio Estevez. Man...he has got to do more films and I mean that!
Now, let's talk about the gore. For an independent film, it had some of the best gore effects that I have seen in quite some time. The make-up on some of these ghouls were so effective that I thought I was watching a film with a high budget. I wish more indie films had gore effects like this.
The setting for this film was quite effective and some of the scenes made me jump a few times, which is rarely done. Hell...it's been a very long time since a horror film scared me at times and this one did the job.
All in all, this independent film was awesome and if you haven't gotten the chance to see it yet, then do yourself a favor and find this one. You won't be sorry!
Spacemen, Go-go Girls and the True Meaning of Christmas (2004)
Incredibly funny sci-fi farce!
Sci-Fi comedies don't happen as often as I'd like, but when they do, they sure do pack a punch. I watched this flick quite a few times and even after I have turned the VCR off, I tend to continuously laugh my ass off. Not many comedies does that for me, seriously. I think the only thing I wish was that it lasted longer than 45 minutes, but what can you do? Brett Kelly, the mastermind behind Dudez Productions, did such an amazing job with this film and his character was one of the funniest that I have ever seen. The whole cast did an exceptional job and I was so happy to see Brinke Stevens in this movie.
There's one scene in this film that was so outrageous that I don't even wanna mention it. Don't want to ruin the surprise for the people that haven't seen it yet. Believe me though, you will laugh so hard.
With witty dialog, great acting, very cool music and some very funny special effects, SPACEMEN, GO-GO GIRLS AND THE TRUE MEANING OF Christmas is one flick that's not to be missed.
Dead Life (2005)
For Zombie Fans Everywhere!
I have been quite interested in seeing this zombie flick from the first time that I had heard it was being made. The wait was finally over and I got the chance to check this film out. All the waiting that I did was well worth it.
Dead Life has quickly become one of my favorite zombie films and there are plenty of them out there. I was very impressed with the acting. Michael Hanton and Jayson Garity are terrific in this film and I hope to see a lot more of their work in the future. I think what impressed me the most was the special effects. I have seen a lot of low budget films lately, but some of them failed with the gory special effects, but Dead Life is different. When the zombies start feeding, the gruesome bloodshed begins, in a big way.
William Schotten did such an amazing job with writing and directing this film and I am really looking forward to seeing his new projects.
All in all, Dead Life is a fun zombie epic of a film with a cool plot, really good acting, lots of zombie mayhem and some kick ass music (metal all the way). Check this one out as soon as possible.
Slumber Party Murder Mania (2004)
Slumber Party Murder Mania Rules!
I got the chance to see Slumber Party Murder Mania when it was screened up at Scary Camp back in May. I had been a fan of Henrique Couto's for some time now and getting to see this film on the big screen was a real treat.
Slumber Party Murder Mania has one of the creepiest looking killers I had ever seen. Once you see it, you'll know what I mean. It's also great to finally see Andy Copp in one of Henrique's films. I don't even think I had ever seen Andy act before and I was quite impressed.
Anyway, I think everyone should check out Slumber Party Murder Mania. It has some fun acting, lots of blood and a kick ass killer. You just can't go wrong with Freak Productions.
The Mutilation Man (1998)
Very Disturbing
I have been watching indie films for some time now and none of them has ever impacted my life as much as Andy Copp's The Mutilation Man. It is one film that, as of this moment, I could only sit through once. Mind you, I thought it was a brilliant flick, but none the less a very disturbing one.
I have to say that this is one flick that shouldn't be missed. I highly recommend it.
