The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
Worst 8 bucks I've ever spent?
I can't give this movie a 1 star simply because I don't generously give out 1s and 10s to every good or bad movie I see. There has to be some middle ground. Still -- a "3" to me = awful, and that was exactly what this movie was ... awful.
Having never seen the original Dukes of Hazzard, I'm not going to try to compare the two -- but I just know that this movie was a complete joke. All it was was an orgy of endorsements and stupid jokes that many would find unfunny.
Jessica Simpson -- ticketed as a "main star" was barely an important part in the movie. The only purpose of having her there was to have a hot blonde with her chest exposed for 80% of the time she was in the movie.
Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott, probably cast perfectly for their roles, were silly and seemed to work well together. Too bad their material was horrendous. With the exception of a little eye candy from both of them -- they were able to provide nothing.
That's what this movie did -- provide no sort of a fulfillment. This whole "escapism" crap that movies try to dish out because people can't stand reality is baffling to me. But mostly, it's sad that many many people probably enjoyed this movie to no end. That really bothers me.
Please don't waste your money.
The Point (1971)
The Best Animated Movie Of Our Time
Any animated movie that comes out can not hold a straw to 1971's "The Point".
Harry Nillson wrote an incredible story, that comes along with excellent, singable songs that will live through the ages. The story is touching and the characters are wild.
The first time I saw it was the first time it came out, with Dustin Hoffman as the narrator. Now that it is on DVD, I wish that he was still the narrator, but Ringo does an incredible job as well and it does not detract from the story.
The point of this movie (no pun intended) is that everything has a point, and if everything has a point than thats rather pointless. You'll have to watch to understand. Every kid should watch it for a wonderful cartoon and every teenager/adult should watch it to learn a valuable, touching lesson.
Firefly (2002)
Joss continues to amaze
I became a fan of BtVS January 1, 2002. I realise that at this time I was slightly behind, as well as on Angel, but I managed to recap all the episodes I missed (from FX and computer downloads and the such) and I was amazed at how wonderfully crafted these two shows were. Everytime a new DVD comes out for Buffy or Angel, I HAVE to pick it up within the first week of its release date.
Then I heard of Firefly. I never watched it when it was airing on TV, which I guess was good, considering they screwed over 3 unaired episodes and aired them not in order, and literally screwed over this wonderful television show.
Then the DVD came out, and although I was interested, had never seen the show before in my life. So one day in my local Circuit City I decided to throw away 40 bucks and check out this new Joss creation. I bought it purely on trust and luck. It was worth it...
It is truly a sat feat that Firefly ended so quickly. For a cast of mostly unknowns, the acting was superb, and they all portrayed their characters to the tee. Each character had their own complex story, personality, and no one was a carbon copy of another character. The ship was beautiful, the special effects were beautiful, the plots were skillfully crafted, the twists fresh and exciting, it was really an exciting adventure to watch every episode.
I am very excited there is talk (and possibly already in the works) of a movie, because hopefully Fox will get it through their heads that this is a quality show, and maybe Universal will give rights back to Fox to make it a show again. That would be a true delight for the die-hards that love and adore the show.
It will not be forgotten.
