Insectula! (2015)
I finally liked one!
I have to start off by saying I dread watching micro-budget movies. I don't know if I ever made it all the way through one, but this one looked like it just might be good.
It was!
I'm not saying it was the greatest movie, it had its problems – sound, timing, confusing plot (maybe intentional?), but overall I was laughing most of the way through. For a micro-budget this is very, very ambitious stuff! This is this guy's first movie, and Hollywood, if you have any sense you will give him a budget because he is your next Peter Jackson. Obviously Peterson has an encyclopedic Knowledge of B movies
Acting came and went a bit, but the FX who I read were all done by the director were decent and clever.
Now this review that wrote Birdemic and Plan 9 were aware of what they were doing but this film was not (!) has got it 100% backwards. I was pretty impressed by the camera-work and lighting and to prove it go to the picture gallery and tell me the interior shots are poorly lit. Give me a break. I can understand that many people won't like this movie, you will ether "get it" or not, but that doesn't make it a 1 star stinker. It clearly isn't.
If more micro-budget indies were like this movie I would be a big fan and I hope some see this and pick up the ball and run with it! At least make another film like this one Mr Peterson
Gallery of Fear (2012)
stinker
Acting was incredibly bad. Effects unspeakable. Lighting horrible. Directing no-existent. Avoid. Now, the way you tell an honest review vs. a fake one from the cast or a friend is to click on the name and look at how many reviews they have given before. The fake ones will generally just have this one review under the name. and honest one will have many more. That's just the way it is and I'm sure the fake one will try to give some explanation as to why they only have the single review but it's BS. And that's the TRUTH. Crap like this ALWAYS has people from the cast, the director, or a friend defending it instead of taking an honest look at what it is. It is garbage, and no matter how many good reviews you fake, nothing can change that.
The Hagstone Demon (2011)
Be very afraid...
Wow. What a stinker. We pick out three obscure films every Friday and this was in the last batch. One of the big problems other than how boring it is is that it takes itself VERY seriously. Shot in B & W to give it some kind of artistic feel, it just contributes to the dullness, and trust me this script is DULL. The protagonist is a very goofy looking "actor" who is incapable of emoting. Apparently he is some kind of cult star and maybe the movie is made exclusively for his fans, so I don't know maybe I'm missing some kind of inside joke. The effects look like they were made on the spot except the cat-thing which looked like it was a rubber puppet.I would love to give some props as this was obviously a no budget picture, but it's trying so desperately to be a Rosemary's Baby or some other kind of real movie that it couldn't possibly succeed. Some of the shots were nice so they had a decent cameraman, now if they had just replaced everything else it might have worked. One more thing, whoever you are who wrote that long glowing review is either connected to the production or should not be writing reviews because you are seriously misleading people.
