Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
Just not my kind of film
Although the acting was phenomenal, I found the story to be a bit drawn out and uneventful for my liking. I'm sure that the historical accuracy was most likely right on the money, I just wanted more. I felt that this film lacked enough conflict, internally or externally. One word about the plot, there was none. The film makers spent so much time trying to get so much in the film, the story itself was lost. You'd do better to watch the Pirates of the Carribean, or even the ride at Disney Land would be more enjoyable than this film.
Moll Flanders (1996)
Emotionally driven
A tale of one woman's journey through her own life of desperation and consequence. This film follows the heroine, Moll Flanders, through her diary left to her daughter via its caretaker Hibble played masterfully by Morgan Freeman. A true testament to the indomitable spirit of mankind, or in this case womankind. I highly recommend this film.
Benny & Joon (1993)
Quirky, sentimental favorite
A romantic comedy that is quirky but not stupid. The film hit all the notes it set out to hit. The acting handled a delicate subject matter without going over the top. It did not make fun of the mentally challenged but portrayed them as they are, human beings with feelings and desires and goals. Johnny Depp's character was a great tribute to the talents of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin on a subtle level and was enjoyable to watch. I highly recommend this film.
