Smallville: Pariah (2005)
Am I the only one who hates this episode?
To start with, I stopped watching Smallville after season 4 because I just couldn't take it anymore. After four years the drama, lies, inconsistencies in the characters and episodes littered with plot i had to stop watching (Though to be honest the last two only happened in seasons 3 and 4 and the first two season were actually good). Needless to say I don't like Smallville and you would think picking my least favorite episode would be hard but you'd be wrong. This episode without a doubt is my least favorite for one reason. I can look past the stupid plot line with witch Lana, I can see past the all around terrible character that is Alicia, but what I can not get over is WHY IS CLARK STILL WITH HER. I know I'm supposed to feel sorry for her but how can I. She tried to kill Clark and got him to marry her. So what if she took a bullet for him, that doesn't make up for all the things she's done. The show also tries to make me feel sorry for Clark because he says that this is the only girl he can be with because she knows his secret. It was at this moment that I realized that this was the worst episode. Why is Alicia any different. I know she can teleport but Clark believes that she is wearing the bracelet and won't use her powers. But, for the sake of argument, lets say she can take off the bracelet and get away if she gets in trouble. She's never really been in trouble because of his secret and the other love interests have gotten in more trouble even though they don't know his secret. And if Chloe learning Clark's secret is supposed to be this episodes saving grace, all I have to say is Chloe is annoying with her knowledge of his secret in the next couple of episodes and as cool as it is that she learns his secret it doesn't even come close to saving this god awful episode.
Ted (2012)
A solid comedy, Just what you'd expect from Seth Macfarlane
7.5 out of 10 Going in i wasn't confident in this movie. First, I'm not a big Mila Kunis fan. Second, i haven't liked many of the recent episodes of Family Guy so my faith in Seth Macfarlane has been waning. In the end this movie over came all of that. It felt like classic Family Guy and i even liked Mila Kunis in this film.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a perfect movie, not by a long shot. Ted having sex and the feces on the floor are examples of jokes that didn't work for me. Sure there were a lot of dumb jokes in this movie but jokes like these are just to over the top for me. Another thing that took away from this was the cliché ending. I realize it's a comedy but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to succumb to such a boring cliché.
I feel like I'm basing the movie, but I did find this entertaining. The jokes in this movie were funny, for the most part, and there was some good substance to the movie. For example, at times, there is a distinct role reversal between Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg. For example the scene were they meet in the diner. After Wahlberg finishes talking he walks out of the diner. This is one of the few times that you want the girl to run after the guy. Another example is the chase scene, Kunis is driving instead of the action hero Mark Wahlberg.
In the end Ted is one of those few movies that is just a solid film. It's funny, sad and it has substance. All of the actors give a good performance and they all fit in there roles well. Just a solid film. 7.5 out of 10
The Hangover Part II (2011)
Were you expecting much
The Hangover Part 2 met all of my expectations. Sadly my expectations for this movie were low. The idea of a sequel to the Hangover is depressing because the first movie set the bar so high that there was no way to make a sequel to top it. This is were this movie fails. At times it seems like it's playing it safe by doing the exact same thing as the first movie and at other times it just goes off the reservation. I commend them for trying to take the movie to the next level, however, since the first movie was so crazy taking the sequel to the next level is just to insane for my taste. Most of my complaint with this movie is the fact that it goes way to far. The only real complement I have for this movie is the fact that the mess the wolf pack gets in this movie is far more elaborate than the first film. In the end, after finishing the movie there is no sense of satisfaction just a feeling that you may have wasted 2 hours of your life that you can never get back.
