Outmatched (2020)
From Terrible to Commendable
The first episode was bad. Really bad! But I gave the second episode a try. So okay, I had a few giggles. I gave each subsequent episodes a chance, and I'm glad I did because it got better and better. Currently, I am on the eight episode. I love the show. It's no Friends or the Golden Girls, but I have grown to care about the characters. I hope there's a second season.
Anna (2019)
I LOVE IT.
When watching movies, I only want one thing: to be entertained.
This movie did entertain me. A lot! The twists are twisty. The action scenes are action-packed (I really love the restaurant fight scene). The main characters are a delight to look at.
Oh, and by the way, Helen Mirren is both intimidating and huggable in this movie.
I don't think there is anything in this movie that I hated. So why just 9 stars and not 10? Well, I don't want to sound like I was paid to give a high-star rating.
Await Further Instructions (2018)
It's Different and I Like It
I'm someone who uses the fast forward button a lot. I was suprised that not once did I press on the fast forward button while watching this movie.
Needless to say, I loved it. It's nothing like I've seen before. It's perfect for those who like to keep on guessing what's happening until the very end.
The actors were all good, and the special effects (especially at the end) were so-so which didn't come as a shock since it's a low-budget flick.
High Heel Homicide (2017)
Porn Parading as a Movie
Warning: spoilers and a few terrible words ahead!
How this particular movie got a 5.8 here on IMDb is beyond me. I have watched several porn movies in the past with good story lines and talented actors. This one, however, is just bad porn.
It seems like every other scene in this movie is a porn scene, each one lasting for 5 to 10 minutes, and not one of those porn scenes is actually needed -- there are more moans and porn groove tunes in this movie than dialogues and proper soundtrack.
I wasted about 15 minutes -- yes, just 15 minutes, thanks to the fast forward button -- of my life that I would never earn back trying to check out this porn movie.
9JKL (2017)
It's funny and enjoyable. Period.
Despite of what other reviewers said about 9JKL, I love it!
There are a handful of TV sitcoms I try watching every now and then, but I quit most of them after just one episode. But 9JKL -- I keep coming back to it.
The characters are all lovable and memorable, most especially Harry (played by Elliot Gould who also played Jack Geller on Friends, which is my all-time favorite TV sitcom).
I wish 9JKL would last for several seasons.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
One of the Scariest Horror Movies I Ever Saw
This particular flick restored my lost faith in horror movies. Creepy elements galore from start to finish. The idea of an animated corpse with a bell attached to its foot particularly was so hair-raising.
There are no cheap scares in The Autopsy of Jane Doe. No cheap effects either. What's so nice about it is it scares the viewer from various angles -- from the claustrophobic basement setting to the fact that not much info on Jane Doe is revealed, which further fuels the mystery that pervaded the movie from start to finish.
Both Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox gave stellar performances! Needless to say, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is one of the scariest, scariest horror movies I saw, and it's worth watching!
Lake Eerie (2016)
Bad in Every Possible Way
If a movie is bad, I just shrug it off and go about my day. However, Lake Eerie is a case all its own — I felt cheated and violated after devoting almost 2 hours of my time watching it.
Everything from the actors, dialogue, photography, makeup to soundtrack sucks. The plot is also abysmal, complete with really unnecessary lesbian kissing and butt and breast exposures.
I don't get why it has a 5.6 star rating on IMDb — I have seen lots of terrible, terrible movies that are way better than Lake Eerie.
Oh, Lance Henriksen who is a great actor IMHO is in Lake Eerie. However, his presence did not give any sparkle to Lake Eerie. That's how bad this movie is.
Terri (2011)
Simple, Realistic and Lovable
Terri is a solid proof that you don't need a complicated plot or tons of CGI effects to come up with a movie worth remembering. It's so simple and real, and loving the protagonist is ultimately inescapable.
Jacob Wysocki is a real talent and is perfect for the lead role. I think the movie wouldn't have been as endearing as it is if it wasn't for John C. Reilly playing Mr. Fitzgerald. Yes, not a lot of things happened in the movie, but that's actually the beauty of it.
You just want to feel pity for Terri the first time you see him going to school in his pajamas. But as the film goes on, pity becomes the last thing you want to feel for him. There's a movie I saw a few years back (let's pretend I have forgotten title) and it's something about a fat teenage girl. Although the performances were undeniably praiseworthy, for me the whole movie thrived on hatred and a truckload more of negative stuff. Terri, on the other hand, is all about some raw human being goodness. If only all the people out there had a bit of Terri in them, then there'd be hope for humanity.
The movie made me feel really good, especially during the last scene when Terri stared at the sun and smiled.
