Made in Chinatown (2021)
quirky characters, romance, mob, Kung Fu
It had a whole bunch of quirky characters, a romantic none stereotypical relationship, Italian mobsters, and kick-a kung-fu fighting.
Overall it was enjoyable . If you like any of the above .... go see it then....you might enjoy it.
Zenith (2010)
A Masterpiece of Independent Filmmaking
I had the opportunity to see ZENITH at the IFC THEATER in NYC.The movie was in summary at least 100 times better than INCEPTION. This is a statement for the quality of this independent film which was much less money to make than INCEPTION. The story was imaginative and associated with current society. The artistry in th...e acting and directing was quite evident. The acting was raw..and the story was up your face, and the directing and cinematography was genius. Each scene seemed like a painting which could be worth thousands in the art world. It was quite interesting to see at a moment breaking the fourth wall. This movie was provocative, thought stimulating, and a roller-coaster of goodies to see : A MASTERPIECE OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING ..WHICH I PREDICT WILL BECOME AN INDEPENDENT FILM CULT CLASSIC... Get some sleep before you go see this,... you will need all your brain cells so as to not miss one second of it. Hope to see it in big theaters real soon.
Blindness (2007)
Beneath the darkness there is tremendous light ,and truth is between
Beneath the darkness there is tremendous light, and truth is between the lines. Two characters who fall in love because the circumstances and characters are perfect for each. One is physically blind and relies on sound, touch and has a tremendous courage and love to experience life fully. The other is spiritually blind and relies on all his senses and need for the other's physical blindness to conceal his own fragility : his shyness, weak ego and shattered self esteem.
Their meeting is an opportunity for growth and love till circumstances change.
This film is very successful and deals with the human condition of these characters. The acting was excellent with great character development and arc. The directing seemed very generous in it's contribution to help explore the human condition of these characters. The music was sensitive and supportive of the delicate moments in this story. It literally moved me.
In short: BLINDNESS is a SUPERB ACHIEVEMENT!
I foresee they will get distribution for it in the near future.
I also hope to see more work from both of the actors and director.

Into the Wild (2007)
Freedom in sharing and freedom within...
Freedom in sharing and freedom within...the very core of ultimate freedom seemed to have been explored.
I always enjoyed Sean Penn's raw work as an actor....and was looking forward to see his work as a director.. Also,Emile Hirsch did an amazing acting job.
Any actor who gives so much of himself or herself as Sean Penn does, can be exciting to experience when he /she brings to a movie in the direction.I was very pleased to see the movie at the Landmark Sunshine Theater in NYC.
Truth is that freedom is so personal and at the same time is in context with the community or nature where that person lives..Truth is often between the lines.
We live in a world which is said to be "civilized" and yet alienating . Many reasons seem to be the cause of this...thank goodness for films like these to help balance out things..
Intimacy is also very connected to the notion of freedom. Learning to be intimate with one's emotions, body , spirit,etc....are a prerequisite to being able to be intimate with others...
Others or the environment are sometimes the catalyst that a person needs towards freedom and intimacy . Freedom or at least the notion of feeling free is the fuel to ultimate intimacy. A delicate balance is somewhat challenging but highly rewarding.
This movie reminded me of my life experiences ,when I was totally alone in nature, by choice, and what was revealed to me by circumstance... life is truly an amazing gift and the greatest gift is in sharing.
Thank you Sean Penn and wish you a continued success in your sharing.

English as a Second Language (2005)
Amazing story and acting especially Kuno(re:NY INT. LATINO FILM FEST.2006
I had the pleasure to see it at the NY INT. LATINO FILM FESTIVAL 2006.I thought the story, acting ,directing and cinematography was definitely quality oriented. The problems of immigration are well depicted in this movie which helps raise awareness of the great need for reform of our immigration laws. Although independent and not from a major studio, it has great market value in our current political US state of affairs concerning immigration.Besides that ,KUNO alone is enough to want to see it in the theaters and later in DVD format....Kuno is on his way up...
This movie is definitely worth seeing!
I am looking forward to seeing more independent films of this caliber from the director and producers.

The Fallen (2004)
It is a timeless cinematographic masterpiece of the human heart and spirit.
It is a symbolic, timeless cinematographic masterpiece of the human heart and spirit , during the incomprehensible and overwhelming horrors of "civilization's " wars. The choice of black and white film ,the paucity of special effects , the excellent and delicate direction by Ari Taub ,a sensitively written screenplay and movie score ,and a talented ensemble cast and crew seemed to have helped bring out the human aspects of each character as the story unraveled ...The movie was about two hours long , but yet totally engaging and at the same time entertaining. The Fallen is definitely unlike most war movies...and is in a league of it's own.It deserves at least an Oscar nomination for best director and possibly other nominations. Who ever gets lucky and picks up this movie for distribution will have a gold mine in their hands. I give it five stars out of five*****. Bravo!!! Claude Laniado, actor
