The Minogue Psychic Scene
25 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The scene that made me laugh the most was Minogue's gullible faith in the medium. Especially the part about his grandfather still being alive.

After getting through the first three episodes, I'm seeing a similarity between this show and Flight of the Conchords.

The secret X-Files room reminds me of Murray's small office in the embassy. The sergeant seems to have a Murray type role, while the two officers seem somewhat like Bret and Jemaine. I'm not sure which one would be which, though.

I hope there will also be a Mel and Dave counterpart!

I think it would have been extra nice if the crochet ghost wore the blanket from Flight of the Conchords. That amazing blanket needs to make a cameo... somewhere. Or has it?

One other note about the show in general. Though the show is a comedy, I find some of the horror visuals to be actually frightening. I think that's rare in supernatural comedies. At least for me. I wouldn't have wanted to watch the demon episode alone at night, while I'd be fine watching something like Beetlejuice or What We Do in the Shadows alone in the dark.

Kudos
8 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kudos to the Braverman family members who didn't attend the Autism Speaks walkathon. Hopefully the show, further down the line, will show that the best way to support autism is to accept autistic people for who they are and not support sn organization with a history of treating autism as a monster or disease.

Who would Max be if he wasn't Autistic? Would he be the driven child who pushes everyone to get enough steps in? Would he be the child who is super passionate about reptiles? The kid who insisted on wearing a pirate costume to school?

For those who see autism as a tragedy or "situation", who do they think they will be left with if the autism is taken away?

I like most aspects of the show but....
2 February 2023
This is the most offensive show/movie about autism I've seen. It's like someone took the infamous Autism Speaks hateful promotional video and said, "Let's make a TV show based on this".

Maybe the show improves at some point and shows that it's not autistic vs gifted or even gifted despite autism. Sometimes autism is what brings the gifts.

Not to mention that autism is often missed in girls... sometimes the gifted girls. But maybe this was less in 2010. I will give the creators the benefit of the doubt and hope if they made the show today, they would do things differently.

On that note, I'm aware the creator has a new show about autism and that this time, he has hired autistic actors and autistic people behind the scenes. Hopefully the input of these autistics dominate in the decision making, and they're not being used as token diversity.
