The Wheel of Time: Leavetaking (2021)

Satisfied this die hard fan
19 November 2021
I've been reading this book series on repeat since I was a preteen. I was nervous but excepted for the show.

So much is different, yet it's still true to the story. Some changes feel drastic, but to a fan who understands the characters in depth, the necessity of these changes for the screen start to become apparent.

The pacing is fast, and might feel rushed... but the emotional impact worked out, and I can't wait to see how the show develops the story with its cinematic changes going forward.

Outdated Mormon Classic
11 November 2019
Outdated Mormon film that no longer stands up to modern scrutiny of moral standards. While it promotes the idea that there is beauty in the feeling of self worth, the film also takes the subjects of racism too lightly for modern comfort. Watching this would be like listening to grandpa tell a story and ignoring the fact that he doesn't even realize that the ideas in his story are a bit bigoted.

Fuel for depression
11 November 2019
While powerful and thought provoking. Watching this as a child only fueled my childhood experience of depression. It may bring awareness to some, but I can not recommend this film as "good"

Poison disguised as virtue
11 November 2019
Powerful short story and effective Christian / Mormon propaganda. I would never wish this video on anyone as it caused me depression after viewing it as a child. Based on the feeling produced, I would say this film is poison disguised as virtue. If you choose to watch this, or if you get something good out of this as an adult, great. Please do not subject your children to this.

It's ok
9 June 2019
Having never read the comics or been exposed to this franchise before, I felt like I was missing something. I think this film might cater to established fans a little more, but I'm not sure. That in mind... the film was ok.

How many votes does a church have?
4 June 2019
I remember Proposition 8 - my LDS family supported it strongly, and often got strong responses due to that support. This film was enlightening about some of the things I didn't see first hand. It shows HOW the church supported the proposition and others like it. While the film does have an agenda, it shows many different perspectives. Whether you were for prop 8 or against it, it's undeniable that the LDS church had a heavy hand in it's support. It shows the influence the leadership of the church have over it's membership. Members will follow church leadership as they would follow words directly from god himself. It's important to recognize the role played by the church in subjects like this, just as it is important that they own up to the consequences of that support, whether they find the results in their favor or otherwise. The point of this film isn't about how one feels about Gay marriage, that was point of the proposition. The point of this film is how you feel about a religious organization's influence over it's members votes and whether or not you feel this influence should be public knowledge.

The war brought to your home.
4 June 2019
This movie and it's ending was so hostile that it left me shaking. My rating scale isn't about the movie quality but about my enjoyment as a viewer. This movie is number 1 as my least enjoyable film ever, but I honestly think that was what the movie was aiming for. It left an impression that I wish I had never been exposed to.

Burn after viewing
4 June 2019
What did we learn here? That not all movies need to be watched... the movie burned over an hour of my life. The movie doesn't pay for the space it occupies in my mind... it's like a bad tenant. I wish I never bought the ticket.

A Mockery
7 July 2017
When I saw the description of this episode tucked away in an obscure time-slot on an obscure channel I was both excited and concerned. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is deeply significant in my life. Even in the start of this episode, you can immediately feel the collective disappointment of Wheel of Time fans worldwide as the quality was low and dull in the extreme. As it went on I began to understand just how offended one can get by blasphemy or mockery to something well loved... This poorly handled grab at retaining rights nearly physically hurt me with how disgusted I felt.

This movie is messed up...
7 July 2017
5 out of 10 because I enjoyed the movie enough to finish it. The characters were all pretty terrible people, but their stories and motivations tying together were entertaining, even if a bit gruesome. The acting was well done and there were some genuine surprises to be had. I enjoyed the film once, but probably wont ever again.
