Scream VI (2023)

Another horror with a lot of cringe clichés.

If this film had come out 5-10 years ago, I would have given it a 6. It's a very solid middle horror.

But this movie was shot in 2023... this movie is already sucking out the finger the SIXTH! Part... and finally, this film uses one of the dumbest horror clichés: Not to finish off the villain. As in the store, as with the frying pan, as with "look at me!" shouting... that's enough. I'm tired of this nonsense. Seriously people, stop this antediluvian cringe clichés already. The world has seen 100500 average or garbage horror movies with all this nonsense. Learn to shoot something at least a little better in 2023.

Criminal Minds (2005– )

Almost perfect 1-15.

Generally speaking, this is a very good and interesting series. There are a lot of different cases, some overlap with other, interesting characters, and so on and so on. But this show has one thing I hate about the books/movies - artificially dumb behavior. It would be okay a couple of times, no one and nothing is perfect, but, apparently, due to the huge number of episodes, the author could not get by with an adequate number of situations where the stupidity of a character is supposedly a necessity for the sake of the plot, and not because in a real life a person would have acted that way. This really pissed me off when the counter was already on the 15th season. But in all other aspects I highly recommend it to those who are interested in this topic.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

There is a difference between "entertaining" and "degrading".

In past films, you can see that I give ratings 7-8 if it will be interesting to you, because more often they haven't very strong and high-quality stories and scripts, but they have beautifully designed and well put together entertaining films ... but in the last couple of years I began to notice a strong degradation of these films . The symptoms that are here can be seen in many films, cartoons and games of recent years, but this cinematic universe, due to its scale, has collected most of them, which is why it can no longer be said that the film has some problems, but it does it's job and for this you can give it at least 7. There are so many idiotic behaviors of the characters in this film, so many illogical conventions and such a stupid plot twists that I can't close my eyes to them and be satisfied with just a beautiful and pathos entertainment graphics. Not in 2023, not after so many films released, on which they could learn hundreds of times that it is needed to not only try to earn money, but also maintain the level of quality ... or at least not to drop it down.

The Postcard Killings (2020)

When last minutes ruin everything.

It would be possible to give some amount of criticism to various things in this film, but I honestly wanted to give a rating 6 ... until the last moments of the film. In 2022, I'm not going to forgive the movie for such an old pattern of a such foolish character behavior that leads to THIS end. In thrillers and horrors, this is the main marker to lower the rating of a modern film. The acting and storyline are ok but could be better. It's a pity that in 2022 the creators are still spoiling their works with clichés and / or behavior equal in emotional damage to the murders depicted in this film.

Dexter (2006–2013)

Very... very... very... unfair ending.

With the exception of various small plot nonsense situations and sometimes moments of "drama only for the sake of drama" rather than logically correct actions, I liked the first 7 seasons and was ready to give rating 9 out of 10. But the whole season 8 seemed to be sewn together in a hurry, and for intrigues-shmentrigs, and yes, as many people, I especially didn't like the ending. I was pissed of by the fact that for EIGHT seasons he overcame his crises, grew above himself, and in the end, "no, I will protect everyone from myself" ...Fuuuuu! ...here it is your happiness right here, so you yourself said out loud that you don't want to kill next to her... but you lost your sister and immediately whole your life and happy family in a new country go to hell? REALLY?! ...It was absurd and disgusting ending.

Final Space (2018–2021)

Good story with bad decisions.

This series tells a serious and interesting story, and does it in a very cool and bright colors and scenes... but I can't afford myself to give it a higher than 7 because it is full of "flat childish jokes" and extremely stupid actions of the characters to please author's "because otherwise I do not know how to develop this situation". For a while I was just doing face-palms, but because of the general coolness of the general environment of the series, I did not think that I would give an average rating, I always wanted to give a higher one... but in the last season, in the most important and serious season, all these stupid actions, when the characters stupidly pretended not to see the most obvious things that were clear to them just a season ago, they began to annoy me so much that I began to take breaks to watch the series to the end. Typical clichés that allow author to suck out drama for the sake of drama. They became bad manners 10 years ago, but the author apparently does not care about this.

That cartoon was canceled after the 3rd season... And it's very good: what has happened in it's last episode - the best picture of what can be in a real life if you act as cartoon's characters.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Interesting, nice but foolish.

Marvel movies are a highly entertaining performances, sometimes with elements of thinking and with interesting ideas. That's why I always give such films a maximum of 8 (9 and 10 only for "going to the soul works"). I wanted to give this film a 7, but objectively left it an 8, because to a greater extent it was made with high quality and was very interesting ... So why did I want to give it 7? ...because in this film appeared the #2 most stupid character of all times and Worlds, of all films and books that I have ever met (#1 Peter Quill, after what he did on Titan, and it's funny that he is also a child of Marvel).

Humor, including silly humor, is an important part of such films, and often it is appropriate and funny, but specifically what Parker did during the creation of the spell by Dr. Strange is sheer stupidity.

... The objective minus of the film and of the Peter: During the most difficult and dangerous spell, when you are asked not to interfere, when you recieve difficult concessions, and when you are asked to shut up already, he continues to voice his desires and do it not even briefly and to the point, but "pouring out a lot of funny verbal streams", which infuriates a lot.

The subjective minus of the film and of the Peter: I hate this stupid things when "the life of even a complete villain is important" and "no matter what happens to the Universe, I want to save the villain's soul". If only he hadn't intervened and let Dr. Strange finish saving the situation, and putting everything back where it belongs, even without any changes there... Parker want to do everything ONLY! How he wants. Yes ,sure, after all, heroes should only act beautifully and liberally... and nothing else. Yes? ...infuriates a lot too.

... In general, I was pissed off by these stupid heroic movie clichés, but otherwise, this is a very good film. Something like this.

Bloody Hell (2020)

Strange, trashy, interesting.

You know, this is probably the case when trash horror movie is done well. When it has the right to exist, and not just thrown at the viewers as "trash for the sake of trash". It's a rather strange job... but it's good. Especially the behavior of the main character. With the exception of one moment in the bank - I liked his character. This is sorely lacking in many films, especially in the horror genre, where, for the sake of the genre itself, the authors do not know how to do anything other than make the hero stupid. I can't recommend it to anyone and everyone, but horror fans should appreciate this work.

The Matrix Resurrections (I) (2021)

(1) Maybe, just MAYBE, this movie would have had a chance. Even not quite so: This concept would have a chance... But it showed itself the reality we received with the phrases of its characters: "For what is needed to take the old code and to make something new?" ... "For those who like to eat ***" ... "They took your story and devalued it" ... "Everything we did ... was in vain". What was it, self-sarcasm, joking on viewers and fans? (2) Morpheus from a cool and charismatic "pastor of the dark matrix centuries" has turned into a clown-finch. (3) Agent Smith: the way that actor played him in old movies, fixed in the subconscious that's how good he played that role... the new actor simply trampled on all that with his "tricksy" playing. (4) They tear out of the souls and memory of an already completely finished iconic story, in order to pervert it. There are not enough hands and faces in the World to show my FacePalm.

Jungle Cruise (2021)

Surprisingly good.

To be honest, I have watched so many different films and TV series that to some extent I can be called a tired viewer. Those who can predict a lot almost from the beginning of the next film, and those who do not indulge in mistakes and clichés. And I didn't expect much from this movie, especially after the nightmarish and ridiculous Jumanji new films with this actor. But it surprised me. It is an adequate and interesting family movie about some fantasy journey. Some light version of the first "Pirates of the Caribbean". Subjectively i liked it, and because it's not awful as MANY! Comedies nowadays, I give it 9/10. Objectively(Not based on personal tastes) it deserves not more, but not less too than 8/10.

It doesn't work that way

The whole film I had a strong feeling that the author deliberately underestimate the detective's working and thinking abilities(and with the background of the fact that he closed some complicated case in the past, it is completely stupid), and deliberately overestimate the "genius and elusiveness" of the villain... The film did not seem to tell the story of the confrontation, but embodied someone's(the author's?) fantasies about "tough bad guys". Bad and poor quality work.

Lady and the Tramp (2019)

Nobody needs it

From time to time there were interesting moments. In many ways, the film goes alongside the narration of the old cartoon... but in general, it is completely meaningless, because every time in moments that caused some emotion in the cartoon, nothing happened here. And this is not because I grew up, but because these "animated dolls" were not able to convey that special charm that the same scenes in the cartoon evoked.

At first, I treated this film as an understandable attempt to refresh the old story for a new generation of viewers, but after a certain moment of such almost sterile scenes I decided - NO. It is better to show today's children an old cartoon than this unsuccessful, in my opinion, attempt.

All the time, there was a feeling that the actors were trying their best to adhere to the atmosphere of the text. Tried too hard ... and overdone it.

Cosmos (I) (2019)

Very good film about astronomy, even without any sci-fi elements.

I can't say that this film has become a strong discovery for me in the World of Science Fiction, and it shows this science fiction by only "one little finger" at most. The acting of the actors seemed to me not very professional, because in some scenes with good correct music, there is just a poker face on the screen ... but ... this film caught on with its atmosphere. It is able to motivate the study of space, and the point is not even fiction, but how these three men relate to their work, how they are ready to sit all night in the desert surrounded by their devices. Also this music and ... in general, I really liked this film. For me, this is the case when I strongly disagree with a low rating.

Soul (2020)

Disney and Pixar are about funny comedies, sometimes with a notes of serious thoughts and events. This cartoon is the case when there are much more serious notes. The soul is a story that will touch ... your soul, make you think about life. A good representative of my home collection, which I definitely want to show to my children.

The whole essence of the film can be conveyed in two theses: 1) Not all criminals are completely guilty of their crimes. From time to time they grow up like this because of their environment, poor upbringing or attitude towards them ... BUT! ... how many of these children grow up to be normal too? Maximum unsociable maybe, but not stealing/raping/killing. If they wanted to change, they would. The rest are only excuses.

2) This guy loved his foster family, but continued to steal from them. Conscience tormented, made sad eyes ... BUT! ... continued to steal. Therefore, when he began to cry, telling me that he spent almost all his life in prison, he did not really touch me or caused regret.

.. I understand the essence of the film, I understand that people and destinies are different ... I agree that the film does its job, makes us understand what they wanted to say with this film. But that's all. This thief will give an interview, cry on camera with real tears, yes, but after he get out of a jail, what he will do next? ...He will go and steal and sit down again. Why should I sympathize with him if he himself does not want to change? Instead of stealing money from family to say "what the hell, we love each other, I was given a chance." For this ... NO.

Superintelligence (2020)

Great potential killed by flat foolish humor.

All films about AI that is thinking about what to do with humanity in my memory were serious or dramatic. This film would be just a wonderful breath of fresh air in genre... it would be, if not the tasteless, dumb, flat humor. Sometimes the jokes were in the right places, sometimes the situations were funny, yes of course... but only sometimes. Overwhelmingly, like most of this actress's films, I wanted to smash my face with my hand in shame. I give some points for general story, idea, and so on... but the general rating for that film... Really, I can't force myself to give higher than 6.

Department Q: The Absent One (2014)

Spoiled protagonist's behavior - spoiled film's experience.

For the most part, this film continues the style and atmosphere of the storytelling of its first part, which is good news.

But unlike that, there are too many stupid actions for the sake of sucking some kind of drama out of the finger, which throws completely ridiculous and idiotic situations at the viewer's face. And if in the first film the protagonist was an interesting personality with a peculiar character's inherent... then in this film he often behaved like the last idiot and layman. Too often. Too impulsive, too ridiculous.

I liked the first film, and for such an attitude towards the production in its sequel, my personal opinion is that the rating is no more than five.

Standoff (I) (2016)

When a single foolish cliché spoils the whole experience.

Until the middle, it was 7: The usual normal film of its genre. No particular pros or cons. Just a strong middle of interest ... but in the middle of the film I wanted to put 1 from the wildest, utter, strongest disappointment and anger. I hate with all the chakras of my soul and despise this stupid cliche in films, when a police officer acts stupidly and does not do what he has to do in strange situation. And in this film there were so many things that should have seemed very suspicious to him that talking about some kind of "I'll check it first" would be the greatest mistake from the viewer's side, and to forgive this. Even if the rest of the film would be perfect, I won't put it higher than 5.

Cold Pursuit (2019)

Norwegian original film is much better.

I really liked the original film for its excellent aeration work, light, and thick, melancholic atmosphere of a winter town. This film is trying to repeat that splendor, and it can be seen, but it does not work. American acting, demeanor, camera angles ...it's all rougher. Not worse, just in a rougher style.

But it would not be so scary if, creating a film based on an existing story, the author would change/add something of his own ...and not just corny copy everything "from start to an end".

So, generally, this is just a copy, but made in a rougher American manner.

Sinbad: Pirates of the Seven Storms (2016)

Too primitive attempt to copy some Hollywood.

Throughout the whole cartoon I had an impression the authors made up 100500 different jokes, and decided to stuff every millimeter with them so that the viewer would not get bored of the almost flat humor in these jokes(I am older, so I am the captain... but you were born three days later than me... right, because the captain is always a little late).

The voice acting is just bad emotionless mumbling(From time to time was normal, but other time it is something like this: the character is pulled by the arms and legs somewhere, he kicks and... whispers. WHISPERS! "Where are you taking me?").

From a certain point, it seemed to me that the clown-protagonist was very... very... very trying to imitate "Jack Sparrow". And it wasn't funny. It was annoying, because it was a very depthless attempt. He copied only antics and foolish phrases, not investing in it any acting or soul, if I may say so. The acting of other characters are shown in approximately the same scenario.

No, I don't want to continue... let me go to watch some normal cartoon, please.

Hotel Belgrade (2020)

The overwhelming majority of contemporary Russian comedies are one continuous disappointment with flat humor. Seeing this rating I expected about what I have already met in this "cinema field". But I decided, nevertheless, to watch as this film was advised to me. And I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw here. Not a brilliant, but not a garbage as well. It deserves some attention. For a very, very long time, I have not met in Russian cinema adequate humor and staging.

Ogoniok-ognivo (2020)

Not bad and sometimes even good.

Apart from a few hypertrophied moments when this cartoon tries to imitate "Western Disney", and how inadequate the main girl character is, otherwise this story deserves a chance to be noticed. In any case, it seems to me that the rating is lower than what it deserves in general.

Volshebnik (2019)

Give it a chance.

I didn't want to write a review, but I saw that there were no explanations or criticism with a very low rating, so I decided, nevertheless, to write a little here. This film lacks stars from the sky as the main character that was musician in the past, but it is also not as bad as it might seem. Especially in combination with very rare good films in contemporary Russian cinematography. I was pleasantly surprised deciding to try to watch it, being interested in the description. And I didn't regret it. This is a good representative of melodrama, which deserves, if not the highest rating, but at least a normal rating, so as not to scare away those who could also like this film, but he/she will turn away in search of a higher ratings.

Accustomed to the fact that in modern Russian cinematograph there are very, very few good films, I did not expect much from this either. The 6.5 rating only reinforced this concern. As a result, I was very surprised that I was very wrong. This is a very good movie. Not without it's small roughness and a few clichés, but definitely deserves rating above average. Generally maybe 8. But for me, as I was pleased that I caught a good Russian film - totally 9. P.S.: Never ignore dangerous signs.
