Shelley (2016)
ending explained
I'll keep it short and sweet, boneheads: the baby didn't live. The scene in the hospital was a delusion. The "eye change" sequence we see with the shaman is the key clue: it's the exact moment he realizes he's looking at a dead baby. Emma's dead body is hanging from a rope as a sort of punishment. There was nothing supernatural in the entire movie. Emma went nuts, that's all. Now enjoy the movie again, you're welcome.
I Bury the Living (1958)
So underrated
Just watched it on Netflix and I was shocked at how good this was.
Unfortunately, no one saw fit to keep the film in good shape, so it doesn't look good, and the audio is very tinny.
When I read the plot summary for this film, I was sure I was in for a disappointment. I was certain that we'd have a villain who discovers he has a power, keeps it a secret, and uses it to his advantage.
Nope, the main character is actually the protagonist, and his power is the antagonist. Could he really have to kill, just by placing a pin in a map, or is it all just coincidence? The only way to know is to test it. Ultimately, his colleagues FORCE him to test his power, to their own demise! The dialogue, acting and some of the direction were really, really good.
Look past the film quality and recognize the elements that shine in this very, very unique film, especially if you love weird tales.
If I were to bill a double feature with this as the first film, the second film would be Village of the Damned. Great pairing right there.
Check it out, for real!!!!
Criticized (2006)
Quite possibly the greatest horror film ever made.
Oops, make that "DEFINITELY the greatest horror film ever made." Richard Gale is a filmmaker who excludes the sort of directorial genius that even Hitchcock couldn't match. His choice of actors is so precise, I don't think there's two other people in the world who could have filled the roles of our two characters as well. The lighting in Criticized is absolutely impeccable, and the dialog unmatched in any horror film I can think of.
Previously, I had called The Exorcist the greatest horror film of all time, but there's a new king to be crowned, and it's name is "Criticized."
FOUR STARS
Subspecies (1991)
What a cheap, B-grade vampire movie....Ugh..
... and I freakin' love it. This movie, whatever flaws it has (and it has them in spades), has one thing going for it BIG TIME: Heart.
This cheap piece-o-crud flick has so much heart, with every single actor giving it everything they've got (which isn't always a lot, but SOMETIMES it is!) I just have to ... well ... Ah jeez, I love this movie.
What can ya do? You just can't NOT love a movie with this much heart going on in it. The guy who plays the bad guy is actually... quite awesome. I mean, he actually does a superb job here. The three college chicks are good too! I mean, these actors really seem to CARE about this garbage they're involved in! And, bless their hearts, it shows.
This thing should have more fans, end of story. Watch it -- you'll be glad you did.
