Hart to Hart: Death in the Slow Lane (1979)
This episode holds up. I don't know why you're confused.
Johnathan bought the car in London. It was shipped to the US. The other couple stated it was easier to let Hart transport the car for them then they would do what they had to to get the car back. Johnathan told Jennifer that he tried to contact the showroom but it was closed. Johnathan was going to call again later (7 hours) when the showroom reopened. Quite easily the fur coat could have been fake. Jennifer doesn't wear fur. The studio wardrobe probably has an expensive line of coats for actresses to wear and you can bank on fake most of the time. Also, did you forget they were acting? Did you know that though Jennifer eats meat and so on Stefanie Powers is a vegetarian and has been since she was a teen. Her step-father took her to a slaughterhouse so she could see that people give up their horses whether they are young or old, healthy or sick and they are sent to the slaughterhouse. He wanted her to learn that an animal you own is a lifetime commitment. She doesn't eat meat or where furs. That's her moral core. Watch With This Hart I thee Wed or Chamber Of Lost Harts. Max brings prime rib to the table. That doesn't mean she eats it.
Hart to Hart: Hart to Hart (1979)
I like the pilot and have watched it several times because I just enjoy the characters, attitude, appearance and conversation. People aren't that classy anymore.
I read the other reviews and didn't see the glass goof that someone mentioned but there are other gaffs like Johnathan wearing the exact same clothes to the doctor's office the second day that he wore when he went to his own office in the opening. I did want to clarify for one person who wrote "There was also a strange scene with Jonathan in the steam room. Completely pointless scene." The scene in the steam room was actually very important and part of the story. As Johnathan was 'investigating' the spa, his conversations with Jill's character, and with the man in the steam room... he was finding out how people came to be at the spa. The man in the steam room was there cause his wife saw an ad. Others were there, like Jill's character, at their doctor's recommendation. He and other doctors around the country were sending patients there for the hypnosis and blackmail scheme that Johnathan's friend dies as a result of. Remember the plot while watching Johnathan and Jennifer... I just love them.

Answering the question Why was Jennifer at a spa...
You must have missed the very beginning of the show. J&J are at the airport having a long goodbye as Johnathan heads to NY for a meeting. Jennifer reminds Max that she is registered as Jennifer Edwards because she is doing an article on the fitness center so she goes 'undercover' as Jennifer Edwards. She is asking a lot of questions and the employees get suspicious and decide to listen in on conversations in her room. They figure out who she is by calling her emergency contact number in her file and Max answers the phone "Hart Residence". Further in the pilot episode, Johnathan picks up a book authored by Jennifer Edwards and reads a dedication from his wife on the inside cover. Her maiden name and profession is clarified and used many times through the series.
